Do you think it will get that cold this winter? Its been years since I saw -40 temps down here in Wasilla, last winter it barely made it to -20 for a real short time, thats T-shirt weather!

Petronski: “It’s a question of degree.”

Wonder Warthog: “No...”

Petronski: “Yes, it is.”

Hmmm ... you may have never had lived in a area where those acrid smog generators called burning leaf piles produced a thick eye-stinging haze that lasts from dusk until morning, and leaves all coughing and red-eyed. I remember eating one Thanksgiving meal in that haze. That bitter smog permeates everywhere in the multi-day thermal inversions of the Fall, by that meal it had been three days of constant haze.

Nothing tasted good, smoke was the only flavor.

“Dioxin is a proven human carcinogen...”

No it isn’t.

“...and also increases the risk of a number of other diseases, including heart disease, diabetes and altered endocrine function”

No it doesn’t.

I have dealt with Carpenter and can tell you he is a fraud and a hack. His science is based on emotion and public perception, not data.
There have been tons of studies on the massive dioxin release in Seveso italy in the 70’s and NO increase in cancer or other long term effects were noted. The exposure in seveso was thousands of times higher than anywhere in NY.

My best friend in 3rd grade had a backyard burn barrel, and once each week after school his chore was to burn trash. And he would always invite me over to watch. After a little time watching Speedracer on TV, we would head to the back yard, trash cans in hand. And when Mom wasn't home, he would always seem to find a aerosol can to throw in to cause an explosion

I figure burn barrels are going to be on every street corner in the cities this winter. People gotsta stay warm when they’re homeless.

Sounds an awful lot like the “Great PCB Fraud” and the Hudson dredging....

I guess we'll need to stop all grilling, BBQ and campfires immediately. LOL!

It's not how many dioxins are produced, it's how many get in YOUR system.

I gave the reason, which you conveniently left off. That’s called “intellectual dishonesty”. So either post a rebuttal reference disproving the information below, or shut up.

http://dioxinfacts.org/sources_trends/forest_fires2.html

Most ecojackasses like you (and the idiots who agitate for and write the laws) never bother to find out if there just might be natural sources, and how large they are. This goes back all the way to Ronald Reagan’s famous (or infamous) statement that trees cause more pollution than cars. Reagan was precisely correct, but he caught heck in the media, because the reporters were ignorant fools.

Don't laugh too loud. Out here on the Washington west coast, the state is already promulgating regulations against fireplaces and wood stoves. I suspect that regs against non-gas grilling will be along direct

"It's not how many dioxins are produced, it's how many get in YOUR system."

Absolutely correct. The (really ancient) Greek saying is "it is the dose that makes the poison".

That’s called “intellectual dishonesty”.

Actually, that's called "an ellipsis." I posted a fact, your first word was NO, and I did not need to go further, since you were wrong with the very first word.

So either post a rebuttal reference disproving the information below...

Why would I do that, since I took no position on that information?

...or shut up.

Uh, no. LOL

Most ecojackasses like you...

You're pretty tough, aren't you?

LOL

...(and the idiots who agitate for and write the laws) never bother to find out if there just might be natural sources, and how large they are.

The existence of natural, uncontrollable sources of dioxin is no justification for permitting artificial sources (like the burning of PVC) that compound the problem.

We always get a few weeks to a month where thhe high for the day at 2 pm is minus 47 and the low at 6 am is minus 65. I have seen it minus 76 down on the river and heard of minus 84 many years back. Usually it's minus 20 by mid october, but warm this year, awful nice. Our road closes tomorrow and supposed to get hit with snow nx week. Time to shoot some bou I guess.

If I could take the congestion and all the people; I'd move back to Sutton, was pretty nice there. Once you've lived isolated in small community, it's quite hard to give up all that freedom that you've grown accustomed to take for granted.

Howdy! I was browsing the web for burn barrel/incinerator designs and an FR thread was the 5th one down, lol. Thinking of making myself an incinerator out of my drum so it smokes a bit less during the summer months. In the winter, not so big of an issue.

Hope its not too cold in your neck of the woods. Spring isn’t too far out (I’m being an optimist)!

Been hanging around minus 25, not too bad but I saw the big yellow thing coming up from behind mnts otherday; longing for spring too.

Been working inside house on beams, reloading bench, and thru together a shooting bench for the porch; 200 yard range out back door.

Soon as she warms on up, I'm going to start hauling in birch for nx winter with skandic.

Have you seen that shooting rest in cabelas by hyskore? Picked one up, pretty heavy duty and rifle clamps in, can't move; hope it works like I think she will. We will be in anch this spring, hope to catch up with ya. Hope ya enjoyin BO's recent demise; we sure are.

We’ve been anywhere from 0 to 20 above at my place, and its usually 10 deg colder than in town or anchorage. Up at work it was COLD, windchills of -70 and more.

Saw the sun for the first time on my way home, barely peeking above the horizon. Always a welcome site, though the cold and wind really get brutal when it starts coming back.

I’d love to have a range out my back door. I haven’t seen the hyskore ones, but have considered getting a lead sled for sighting in. Been meaning to do some wood runs this time home but doubt I’ll get to it.

Let me know when you’re heading my way. Even if I’m gone, you’re more than welcome to use my place if you’re lookinf for somewhere to stay.

Really been enjoying watching the one’s slide! Even Biden’s son decided not to run for office!!!
