WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama called on Congress Wednesday to approve $250 payments to more than 50 million seniors to make up for no increase in Social Security next year.
The Social Security Administration is scheduled to announce Thursday that there will be no cost of living increase next year.
By law, increases are pegged to inflation, which has been negative this year.

Seniors aren’t that stupid. The way this government works is: I’ll give you $250 right now, so I can tax you $500 later. They won’t fall for it, they can see through him.

Actually, I saw a chart of how the stimulus money was being spent and when it’ll be spent. And gee, guess what? Most of the money will be spent about the last year of this administration. Surprise!!!!
Hey, I wish my income had stayied the same! I’ve had a COLD (Cost of Living Decrease). Income off about 30% from last year.

It will cost $350 per senior in affirmative action hires to distribute the $250. And they’ll still screw it up. That’s not counting how much the corrupt government scum will steal.

Glenn Beck posed this question earlier on his show and I paraphrase: Obama is going to give the senior citizens a check; why doesn’t the gov’t just increase the amount each are currently being paid??? I wondered that as well.

I think the plan is for the bulk of it to be doled out BEFORE the elections in November 2010 - how convenient! That’s the report I heard last night on FOX.

ARe people supposed to be fooled that he's giving Seniors a ‘gift’? He cheats them out of the yearly COLA - for at least 2 years ahead - then tosses them a bone, thereby causing resentment against seniors - which will make it easier to get Obambi Care through, even tho’ it's an early death sentence for the elderly.
And from some remarks on this post by even some Freepers illustrates, it's working. I guess it comes down to the flavor of Kool Aide. (Younger folk should remember that, if they're lucky, they too will one day be a senior citizen.)
(And there could be an additional reason: watch for the congresscritters and senators to soon vote themselves their yearly COLA raise - which will be more like $5,000-6,000. Even as brazen as they are, they wouldn't dare do it without tossing some crumbs to the seniors that they are cheatugiut of their yearly cost of living raise.)

The Stimulus has been ‘doled’ out at around 1 Billion dollars a week - last week was a little less - it hasn’t even reached 25 Billion yet - with @25% of that being spent on vaccines.

WASHINGTON-U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, a member of the Senate Finance Committee, today voted against Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus' health care reform bill:
"Like most Texans, I believe that our health care system needs reform. The legislation rushed out of the Finance Committee today is not reform. It will raise health care premiums and taxes on Texas families; it will cut $400 billion from Medicare; and it will take Medicare Advantage benefits away from seniors. All the while, the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office cannot confirm that the bill will actually reduce health care costs. I cannot support legislation being rushed through Congress that will increase the costs of health care without giving Texans the opportunity to learn what it would mean for them."

actually we had a huge raise in SS last year and it is done on a formula. SS is going broke. I for one don’t think we are owed an automatic raise. Or 250 large. Hah!
