Report: Russia to allow pre-emptive nukes
Associated Press ^ | Oct. 14, 2009 | DAVID NOWAK

Posted on 10/14/2009 11:48:49 AM PDT by Free ThinkerNY

MOSCOW (AP) - A top Russian security official says Moscow reserves the right to conduct pre-emptive nuclear strikes to safeguard the country against aggression on both a large and a local scale, according to a newspaper interview published Wednesday.

Presidential Security Council chief Nikolai Patrushev also singled out the U.S. and NATO, saying Moscow's Cold War foes still pose potential threats to Russia despite what he called a global trend toward local conflicts.

The interview appeared in the daily Izvestia during a visit by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, as U.S. and Russian negotiators try to hammer out a nuclear arms reduction treaty by December.

Wait a minute... I thought Hillary “reset” relations with Russia, and that Russia is our friend...

Oh yea, I forgot... that was an “Overcharge” button!
BTW, the Russians are expanding their military, and it is now on par with the old Soviet military, even though it is smaller.

The cornerstone of Nuclear Stability has been the mutual “No First Use” doctrine between the US and Russia/USSR...

The world just became a more dangerous place....

Neither the US or Russia have ever had official no first use policies.

Russian military strategy has always been nuke-heavy and the US had plans to use nuclear demolition charges to destroy bridges and other infrastructure to slow a Russian advance.

” Neither the US or Russia have ever had official no first use policies. “

Thank you for the correction...

‘No First Use’ was/is such a natural corrollary to MAD, that I just assumed that it had been formalized as Doctrine...

My mistake..

This is the result of Bill Clinton’s actions. They are pissed at Clinton, so the Zero sends his wife to talk to them. Of course they will reject her out of hand.

I would hope that zero and the rest of his amateur administration realise just how dangerous this is. Perhaps as these libtards are doing healthcare reform, they will include language that covers blindness, flashburns and radiation sickness. And while they are at it, are nukes covered under cap and tax?

The link from Drudge I read said nothing about reciprocity.
If you have a link that shows russia agreed to let the USA inspect please provide

here is the drudge link to a fox story
Clinton said the U.S. would be as transparent as possible.

“We want to ensure that every question that the Russian military or Russian government asks is answered,” she said, calling missile defense “another area for deep cooperation between our countries.”

My thought on Obama’s reaction to this. “See, if we disarm Russia will not be inclined to attack us. We’ll no longer be a threat.”

Obama’s claim that he was going to return the U.S. to being loved by the rest of the world, has certainly fallen flat.

As critical of Bush as I have been, Russia didn’t make comments about first strikes when he was president.

Europe laughs at him. Japan laughs at him. People in the Middle-East laugh at him. The Taliban and Al Queda laugh at him. The people in the military laugh at him.

Obama is a national disaster.

They can use nukes “pre-emptive”ly but we allow them to inspect our sites and we scrap missile defense in Europe? Plus no sanctions on Iran.

Is this supposed to be good?

Guys, as much as BO is a moron...I think this is a signal to other parties...aka Israel. They’re washing their hands of the Iranian thing and telling the Israelis..do what you have to. I think mainly because something is going down behind the scenes and the Russians woke up and smelled the hummus...and realized that an Iranian Shaahab missile with a nuclear warhead could conceivably reach Moscow.

It’s not, and I think they know for the most part, we’re gonna say no (or at least, I hope we will, if not, then yeah, we are humongous idiots). That said, there was already inspection regimes under the various START treaties. As for dictating policy, I didn’t catch that in the excerpt.

What caught me was the “preemptive” part. Nobody says that..nobody. Nuclear preemption isn’t even discussed, openly. It’s a dangerous thing to suggest. So, why, would the Russians of all people, who are precariously sitting on a decaying early warning network, a SRF that isn’t paid too well and a Navy that still has trouble maintaining deterrence patrols off the US. Not saying they haven’t improved since the 1990s, but the fact is, there hasn’t been new major construction in the Russian Navy, and their new SLBM STILL isn’t working.

No, the Russians aren’t eager to fight a war with anybody..there’s only two reasons to say that. One, is, they’re worried about the Chinese (contrary to all the rosy pronouncements between Jiabao and Putin, I doubt the ancient enmities between the two have sated at all.) or Two, Iran said or did something dumb behind the scenes and the Russians got scared. That could be the case. They have to know that we’re pulling out of Iraq and possibly Afghanistan...and considering how nutty the Taliban were the last time they ran things in that corner of the world, and that Iran’s involved? Yeah, I might be worried Iran might stir up the Chechens or the Dagustani again, or even Georgia. No, the Russians just like Iran because the money’s good. That ever changes, Iran’s dog meat.

No, specially when Obamas agenda is to bring down America.

Financially, economically, politically, militarily, morally,... its all about destroying the years of advancement in America (that made America and modern man) and taking us to turd world Kenya or Indonesia.

Obama is the great ANTI president, destroying the greatest nation.

You asked, “As for dictating policy, I didn’t catch that in the excerpt.” abour Russia dictating policy on Iran.
obama and hillary spent the last month speaking of sanctions on Iran. Part of the thinking on giving up the missle shield was now Russia would now be on our side and help us with Iran.
Then Putin says , uh NO we won’t speak of sanctions. and Hillary all of a suddens says, it is too soon to speak of sanctions.
Putin is flexing his power and winning. He is afraid of no one, certainly not pissy scared obama.

We look like weak fools to the world’s leaders and to every muslim dictator. Nice job obama

Read the fox atory on /Drudge
this from it >”Russia and the United States have tentatively agreed to a weapons inspection program that would allow Russians to visit nuclear sites in America to count missiles and warheads.

The plan, which Fox News has learned was agreed to in principle during negotiations, would constitute the most intrusive weapons inspection program the U.S. has ever accepted.”
There is NO mention of Russia allowing the USA to do the same

Check this:

==============================================

Polish politician charged with Putin defamation

14.10.2009

Michal Rachon, a Law and Justice activist, has been charged for defaming Russian PM Vladimir Putin in Poland last September.

On 1 September, at the 70t WW II anniversary, former interior ministry spokesman and member of parliament Michal Rachon staged an unusual protest against Vladimir Putin’s visit to Poland. The Law and Justice activist put on a costume that resembled a penis with an inscription ‘Vladimir Putin.’

Meanwhile, two other protesters chanted: “Where’s the penis, Putin?”

The costume was an obscure reference to when the Russian secret services mocked a rally by Russian presidential candidate and former world chess champion Gary Kasparov by circling the event with a model helicopter with dildo attached.

Rachon faces from three months to three years in jail.
