The Coming Ice Age
American Thinker ^ | October 13, 2009 | David Deming

Those who ignore the geologic perspective do so at great risk. In fall of 1985, geologists warned that a Columbian volcano, Nevado del Ruiz, was getting ready to erupt. But the volcano had been dormant for 150 years. So government officials and inhabitants of nearby towns did not take the warnings seriously. On the evening of November 13, Nevado del Ruiz erupted, triggering catastrophic mudslides. In the town of Armero, 23,000 people were buried alive in a matter of seconds...

For ninety percent of the last million years, the normal state of the Earth's climate has been an ice age. Ice ages last about 100,000 years, and are punctuated by short periods of warm climate, or interglacials. The last ice age started about 114,000 years ago. It began instantaneously. For a hundred-thousand years, temperatures fell and sheets of ice a mile thick grew to envelop much of North America, Europe and Asia. The ice age ended nearly as abruptly as it began. Between about 12,000 and 10,000 years ago, the temperature in Greenland rose more than 50 °F.

I wonder if the author is related to the Demming who was the American QC guru that transformed Japanese manufacturing into a high quality source it is today. He was rejected by Detroit’s automakers who became lethargic with poor QC.

Article Today on SpaceWeather

DEEP QUIET: Today, the sun is entering its 13th consecutive day without sunspots. Just a few years ago, such a stretch of blank suns would have been unthinkable. Now it's routine. So far this year, the sun has been spotless 79% of the time, topping the 73% mark recorded in 2008. Long after many forecasters thought solar minimum would be finished, the quiet is not only continuing, but actually deepening. Are sunspots gone for good? Researchers discuss the question in an article from Science@NASA.

Ah yes, the Toyato Production System. Eli Goldratt had some things to say about that as well.

CO2 levels would have to be 10X as much to have any effect on temperature. It is still too dilute to make any diff.

CO2 is a lagging indicator of warming. The oceans hold much of the planet’s CO2. When they are warmer they absorb less. It stays in the atmosphere... after the Earth has warmed.

It is mid October, how much longer will the "Hurricane Season" last?

The absence of hurricanes this year is welcomed by many people.

There is nothing scientific about my observation but I am happy that no Katrina's or Camile's have been headed toward land.

From the article: Crops failed due to cold temperatures and incessant rain. Desperate and starving, parents ate their children, and people dug up corpses from graves for food. In jails, inmates instantly set upon new prisoners and ate them alive.

Wow. Wonder if this is true. (Even Hansel and Gretel were just abandoned, not eaten by their parents.) Would guards really place prisoners arrested for petty crimes in a cell where they were guaranteed to be eaten alive. Dang.

This guy’s opinions don’t count because he is a geoPHYSICIST, not a climatologist. You see, a physics background is nothing compared to the rigors of climatology. /HUGE SARC, but that’s the current AGW meme.

Also, here’s an important quote: “Earth’s climate is controlled by the Sun.  In comparison, every other factor is trivial.  The coldest part of the Little Ice Age during the latter half of the seventeenth century was marked by the nearly complete absence of sunspots.”

For some reason, AGW cultists just can’t understand how that burning ball of thermonuclear fire about 1.5 million times the size of Earth could affect climate. Actually, the reason is simple: delusion.

The potential danger of any potential anthropogenic warming is trivial compared to the risk of entering a new ice age.
