LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A top adviser from John McCain's presidential campaign who has criticized Sarah Palin's odds as a presidential candidate in 2012 is standing by the decision to pick her as McCain's running mate in the 2008 election.
Steve Schmidt, who was chief strategist for McCain's presidential race, said Palin helped McCain as a running mate in the 2008 race. Schmidt earlier this month said that Palin would be a catastrophe for the GOP if she's the party's presidential nominee in 2012.

I think the scorn for him is universal, so by attacking Sarah he has been slapping away the hand that fed him. I wonder if we’ll hear about him joining some campaign, like Romney or Pawlenty?

Is this guy suffering from some multiple personality disorder? Or maybe some wiser head told him he was coming across as a backstabbing POS and a hypocrite, and ruining his chancing of working in his chosen ‘profession’ again.

Heh. Steve just figured out that if she were really that bad a choice as VP, it reflects on (a) the presidential candidate, (b) his senior advisors (i.e., Steve himself) or (c) both.

Schmidt is an imbecile and this is not a statement by him to "support" Sarah. However, even he can't dispute reality:

McCain must be polling very poorly with the conservatives in Arizona for his re-election next year. He needs to tack right and explain past errors.

Two reasons for Steve Schmindts about face on Palin.
1) Stevie boy must have received an earful from grassroots conservatives.
2) Randy Scheunemann, a Palin ally, signed on to work on Tim Pawlenty’s PAC. To beltway insiders, this could be a sing that Palin isn’t running in 2012. Thus, Stevie boy is free to say something nice about Palin.

You know, if your business is consulting and guiding political campaigns and careers and you don’t have much success to show for your efforts - pissing off the other half of the party that has actually won a few elections might not be considered a wise career move. Just saying, this guys seems to part of the Arlen Spectre wing of the Republican party. Great job of managing the Dole part II campaign in 2008. I guess he was too young to remember the Dole campaign. Remember Dole reaching out to Jack Kemp as VP and then muzzling him. What a douche.
To: Tarpon
Screw you Schmidt. I can about guarantee that anyone you end up working for in 2012 will not get my vote on a cold day in h*ll.
