I know everybody here hates NPR, but I found this episode of "This American Life" focusing on healthcare, more specifically, why people often get too much un-necessary care, to be quite even-handed. What struck me is how the main problem with our system boils down to a problem with human nature, which to me is a very conservative point.
Free is like giving a dog free reign with a bag of food - they won’t stop or think to stop.
I heard the beginning of the story and it sounded very interesting. On occasion, I have found “American Life” to be very interesting. I’m glad to hear that they asked questions instead of jumping on the band wagon . . . on this particular story.
Yeah at least they realize the issue is the cost of healthcare not the cost of insurance. When you ask a company to cover your “pre-existing condition” you are really just asking them to foot your bill not insure risk. I was amazed when TAL pointed out that insurance companies are the ones negotiating for lower costs from providers. Obama better get his stormtroopers over there fast to set them straight.
