Governor approves law creating Harvey Milk Day

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a law marking May 22 as Harvey Milk Day, in honor of the slain gay-rights activist.

The law encourages schools and other educational institutions to commemorate the day each year with discussions and other exercises that help students better understand Milk's significance on California politics and the gay-rights movement.

Arnold’s approval rating is so low (27%) he apparently sees no reason to vurb his liberal agenda. At least this doesn’t make May 22 a state holiday...not yet, anywaty.

CA is a lost cause. Just today, I read that it is virtually impossible for CA voters to unseat the democrat majorities in the state houses. The districts are gerrymandered to insure demcrats will maintain their majorites, so the governship will be a redux of Arnold: a stop gap on some issues with the veto pen, but that’s all.

The state is broke. There’s no getting rid of the illegals and we all know Obamie will pass amnesty and they’re included in healthcare, not that it matters, since they’re already clogging our emergency rooms and prisons.

Among other things, it was Milk who publicly "outed" Oliver Sipple, the former Marine who very likely saved President Ford's life during the 1976 assassination attempt by Sara Jane Moore. Sipple did not want to go public with his homosexuality and Milk's revelation caused him a great many problems. Sipple had specifically asked the press not to reveal his sexual orientation, since neither his mother nor his employer knew about it. Milk needed a gay hero, though, and apparently could not have cared less about the consequences to Sipple.

While discussing whether the truth about Sipple's sexuality should be disclosed, Milk told a friend: "It's too good an opportunity. For once we can show that gays do heroic things, not just all that ca-ca about molesting children and hanging out in bathrooms." Milk contacted the newspaper.

I was sort of thinking a holiday would be preferable to yet another day of agenda indoctrination in school. I think the conservatives should push for an actual day off. I am so tired of school time being spent on political and social agendas instead of reading and math. Ideally school would be half days concentrating on academics and afternoons optional if they want to do all this other non academic stuff.
