The prisoners of the 8th Cavalry Regiment spoke of how Kapaun, an Army chaplain, continued to look after his men even though he was wounded and sick himself. Risking his own life, Kapaun would sneak out after dark to scrounge food for those too weak to eat, fashion makeshift containers to collect water and wash their soiled clothes

Sorta puts a little tarnish on “commander zero’s” Nobel peace prize don’t it?

Nothing compared to the chaplain who was with the men who were taken off the Phillipines in the hold of a ship and if they survived went onto the Baatan March. That’s the reason I question this awarding.

Do you really know the facts surrounding this? What kind of risks did he take nightly to get food and water to the men? And what is the point of comparing one case against another? I am sure there are gradations of who did the most to earn a MOH.

From all I have read, the people who were with him believe he deserves the award.

You know what this is all about as well as I do. It’s politics. It is not about the worthiness of who is getting the MOH. The statements that are used to justify his award are totally ridiculous compared to those who have rightly earned it.

There is no doubt that the MOH has been politicized. The most egregious example was the awarding of multiple awards to the 442nd and Senator Inouye. However, I don't want to tar everyone with that same brush. I believe the WWII and Korean veterans never got the proper recognition in terms of MOH recognition, i.e., it was tougher to get the award. Only 464 MOH were awarded in WWII and 133 in Korea compared to 246 in Vietnam.

This from Wilipedia: A 1993 study commissioned by the Army investigated racial discrimination in the awarding of medals.[31] At the time, no Medals of Honor had been awarded to black soldiers who served in World War II. After an exhaustive review of files, the study recommended that several black Distinguished Service Cross recipients be upgraded to the Medal of Honor. On January 13, 1997, President Bill Clinton awarded the medal to seven African American World War II veterans. Of these, only Vernon Baker was still alive.[31] A similar study of Asian Americans in 1998 resulted in President Bill Clinton awarding 21 new Medals of Honor in 2000, including 20 to Japanese American members of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, among them Senator Daniel Inouye.[32] In 2005, President George W. Bush awarded the Medal of Honor to Jewish veteran and Holocaust survivor Tibor Rubin, who many believed to have been overlooked because of his religion.

I'll take your word for it, this chaplain isn't worthy. Start a petition to revoke the honor and I'll sign below your name....../sarc

This country is dumbing everything down that casts a good light on our military. It is getting to the point that MOH winners will be chosen like Nobel Peace Prize winners. Whoever has the best lobbyist wins.
