Endangered Democrats
The Washington Times ^ | October 12, 2009 | Donald Lambro

As soon as Republican Rep. Michael N. Castle announced last week that he was running for Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr.'s open Senate seat, election analysts rated the contest a tossup favoring the Republican Party.

Mr. Biden's seat had been rated safely Democratic by all the forecasters.

However, the nine-term congressman and former two-term Delaware governor, who has never lost an election (winning vote totals in the 60 percent to 70 percent range) changed all that with his entry into the race. The Democrats were in danger of losing yet another Senate seat in 2010...

On the surface it seems like good news.

If the Republicans elected are of the Democrat-Lite brand, it will just slow the big government growth cycle.

“Endangered Democrats”

Horsefeathers.

ACORN is still there along with Democrat willingness to subvert the electoral process with “brilliant” lawyers and staticians. The egos of pseudo-intellectual “independents” will yet again be stroked by “brilliiant” Democrats, and that hard-core, Democrat base of about fifty percent will always carry the day for “progressives”.

Endangered Democrats? Nonsense. Look forward to seeing the sneering, arrogant countenances of Democrats for a long time to come.

many vulnerable demholes...there’s this seat, Gillebrand in NY, Dodd, Reid, whatshername down in Louisiana, if the pubbies put up good candidates, they can take everyone of these, if they put up RINOs, they lose. I don’t think they’ll ever learn.

“I don’t want politicians as usual”.....I couldn’t agree more Emily. We don’t need more RINO’s in D.C. What we need are people who will follow the Constitution and the principles of this country. We also need - and must have - TERM LIMITS!!! No more career deadbeats living off our money. We also need - and should have - laws against pork items in bills. Unfortunately these changes will come about from the grassroots efforts — not from the bunch in D.C.

The process is geared toward political parties, and two political parties control the process.

The country-club-big-business wing has control of the GOP. Thus, the conservative wing will only get scraps -- IF their votes are needed. [Recall the disdane McCain and Graham showed toward conservatives the last few years.]

Not if the “purists” stay home and sit on their hands because Castle isn’t a PURE CONSERVATIVE....we will NEVER have a Republican that gives us 40% of what we want when the Democrat gives us 0% of what we want.

If the Democrats continue down the path they're on, they could be headed for a big wipeout next year. An unpopular President, a sinking economy, a worsening deficit and a health care plan no one likes could sink them. They still have time to make a course correction but every day they delay it worsens their prospects. Its a throw the bums out mood in the country.

“ACORN is going down.”

ACORN is made up of hardcore supporters of the Democrat Party. If ACORN is broken up, or disbanded, or whatever term you might use, its components will still be effective, in existence, and still active in another form, somewhere else with funds will still be flowing to them.

Also, what happened to the investigation of Panthers in the Philadelphia polling place? They were dressed in boots, uniforms, armed with sticks and “allegedly” intimidating voters. Isn’t it against the law to “electioneer” in a polling place, not to mention electioneering with boots and sticks?

Also, the “press” is still carrying water for the “Progressives” and always will and will stroke the egos of those “brilliant” independents who are nothing but stealth Democrats.

Respectfully, with best regards.

IMHO

I wouldn't say its necessarily ideological. Both sides have misread election mandates to do things the public didn't want. 2008 was about rejecting Bush - not conservatism. 2010 may be about rejecting Obama - not necessarily the Democrats.

“...remember, these liberals ARE NOT IN THE MAJORITY, WE ARE!:)”

To paraphrase Josef Stalin; “It is not who votes but who counts the votes....”

Scratch the surface of any so-called Liberal Democrat, any Progressive, and you’ll find a little Josef Stalin, screaming to be released. (Florida 2000, Michigan 2008, Ohio 2008, Michigan 2008....)

Well Ann...2 here disagree with your position of "more of the same/rinos are better than rats/slowing the drive to communism" as opposed to stopping the drive!

“I don’t want politicians as usual”.....I couldn’t agree more Emily.

But not to worry Ann, there are others here on FR pushing rinos instead of supporting conservatives. Too bad...so sad.

Castle will win. Even Del. is getting buyer’s remorse over Obama’s socialist tax gathering. Unfortunately, NJ will probably not get rid of the crook Corzine but there is still hope there. Va. should give the Pub at least a 5% victory. Then it will be up to turn out for 2010, and some connections with the RNC and Libertarians, Indies, Reagan Dems to help unite against the libs. We shall see. I still see 25 seats in the House flipping and perhaps up to 3 Senate seats. But, turnout must occur for Pubs. No sitting at home or dreaming inanely about a 3rd Party.

Emily,

You aren’t the only one. My suggestion to everyone who feels as you do is the same.

Start meeting with your neighbors, maybe attending local Republican meetings, maybe local TEA Party or 9-12 organizations. Work to figure out what the people in your district want, what a representative for your district should represent. Then, start interviewing all potential candidates. Don’t wait for the Republican party to select the candidate that will represent you and your district. You and your neighbors pick the candidate. Support your candidate in the primary with everything you can muster. Try to take back your local Republican party.

If that doesn’t work out, you and your neighbors have a decision. If you live in a very conservative district, running your preferred conservative candidate could work. There are districts where a RINO and a Democrat are more likely to split the liberal vote and put a true conservative ahead, or in the runoff. And 2010 will be the best opportunity for an independent in a long time.

Personally, I believe that if conservatives can’t take back the Republican party, and if the Republican party can’t actually earn back conservative votes, being “the lesser of two evils’ is still evil. And I refuse to believe that we must always be faced with the evil of two lessers.
