What did I tell ya? Lindsey Graham signs on to cap-and-tax
Michelle Malkin ^ | Oct 11, 2009 | Michelle Malkin

Posted on 10/11/2009 4:26:21 AM PDT by upchuck

I hate to say “I told you so.”

But, well, I told you so.

GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham has signed on to the Democrats’ massive green redistribution scheme masquerading as a planet-saving, national security-enhancing “energy independence” scheme.

Can John McCain and the rest of the Climate Change Republicans be far behind?

Now, the announcement of Graham’s alliance with Big Government Democrats. In the NYTimes, natch.

Kerry and Graham go on to argue that we must buy into their plan because the EPA regulatory power grab will be worse. It’s greenmail: Sign on or else the out-of-control bureaucrats (and the unaccountable energy czar Carol Browner, they fail to mention) will make life even more hellish for businesses and taxpayers.

But who’s to say the EPA and Browner wouldn’t go further anyway even if the Senate bill passes?! Evidence and dissent haven’t stopped their job-destroying eco-crusade before.

Sen. Graham was too busy basking in the glow of bipartisanship to comment.

God save us from bipartisanship.

The real outrage of this story is that it has now become an accepted norm to regard the “EPA” as a sovereign government entity. The very concept that the United States Senate would shape its legislative agenda in order to bow before a non-elected administrative body should be repugnant and frightening to all Americans.

Need their be any other proof that the EPA has become a rogue agency and needs to be disbanded.

The other frightening part of it is that its a load of rubbish, because the EPA would be tied up in court for years before it could impose any such regulation (if ever). In fact, this would be the best thing that could possibly happen because it would force the truth out into the public arena - in court.

In other words, this is nothing but an excuse, a hypocritical fig leaf.

"Kerry and Graham go on to argue that we must buy into their plan because the EPA regulatory power grab will be worse."

An admission by these politicians that they don't and won't do their oversight duties to reign in out of control bureaucracies. I'm a firm supporter of replacing ALL of these compromising Constitutional violating traitors. They are ALL selling this country out and need to go! This just torques my jaws to see something like this to happen!!!!!! I can't really say what I would normally say or I'd be banned for month's on end.

If the only alternatives are Cap&Trade and EPA doing the same thing. Then it doesn’t matter, The economy of the old Western World is finished. And we will not produce sufficient revenue to maintain the most powerful military on the planet or to do the R&D to keep us ahead scientifically. I wonder which empire USA will be a client state of in 10 years or 20.

because the EPA would be tied up in court for years before it could impose any such regulation (if ever).

I'm not sure that is correct. Bush fought the EPA over classifying CO2 as a "pollutant", and finally lost in court last year.

The EPA can do anything it wants to control CO2.

Since EPA was given the mandate to regulate CO2 as a pollutant EPA can regulate it down to zero emissions. That would make all human beings in the country criminals subject to arrest and imprisonment.

It is to this citizen. The EPA is however a straw man for the politicians that allows them to abscond on their responsibilities. Just like the concept of mandatory government spending. Jefferson warned us of this.

Bump to you.

DO NOT support the RNC because they support Grahamnesty, Snowe, Collins, et al. Refuse their phone, mail and email calls for you cash and EXPLAIN to them why you won't donate.

Donate directly to the candidates whose views most closely parallel yours.

Best way I know to rid ourselves of frigging RINOS.

He had no credible opposition. His main Republican challenger was Ravenel that was caught the year before using and selling coke.

The Democrat was an independent Ron Paul wannabee.

Lindsey won by default.

The very concept that the United States Senate would shape its legislative agenda in order to bow before a non-elected administrative body should be repugnant and frightening to all Americans.

Correctamundo! Further, who's responsible for creating these monsters? Congress! They're the ones who were too clever by half in allowing these executive agencies to grow in power so the agencies could do Congress's bidding:

  1. Congress writes nebulous requirements for an agency to implement.
  2. The agency writes the implementations and uses their administrative courts to enforce them.
  3. Congress hauls the agency before various committees to review the implementations, and roast or praise the agency heads and underlings as the mood strikes.
  4. Congress continues the process by refining the implementations to their liking including writing new nebulous requirements.

Now, though, they've figured out that the executive agencies are controlled by the executive who has also figured out that he controls them. Being who he is, the current executive has taken to directing the agencies to to use all that power given to them by Congress the way he wants not the way Congress wants. Suddenly, all the power they gave away isn't such a great thing and they're really worried. However, that worry is only to the extent that they're not calling the shots. It's not like they care that we're getting screwed by the agencies because they're surely going to screw us in place of the agencies. After all, cap and tax, whether implemented by Congress or the EPA, is still going to be a disaster.

Good point about EXPLAINING why I’m not donating. I’ve hung up on numerous phone calls in recent months from the RNC or the gop senatorial or house campaign committees, but it would probably would be more effective at getting the message across if I explained my unwillingness to contribute. While the caller will no doubt be some college student in a call center, I assume they keep some checklist of reasons people provide for not giving, which eventually winds it way up to folks who might be able to do something about it.

1) Which branch of the Federal Government has the authority to give the EPA such a mandate?

2) Which section of the Constitution authorizes the EPA to regulate anything?
