O's albatross: Misguided Nobel will weigh on rest of his presidency
NY Post ^ | October 10, 2009 | JOHN BOLTON

Posted on 10/11/2009 3:12:17 AM PDT by Scanian

Americans were justifiably proud last week of their many Nobel Prize winners. Eight of the nine honorees in physics, chemistry and medicine were US citizens, some native-born, some naturalized, a near total American sweep. And their achievements were glorious: better understanding how DNA works, the basis for enormous medical progress; developing fiber-optic cable, revolutionizing global communications; and advances in cell biology, with enormous implications for treating cancer. In each case, these breakthroughs, some made as long as 20 years ago, have proven themselves beyond the laboratory, and already made enormous real-world differences.

Next to these marvels, how to explain the Nobel Peace Prize, the most prestigious of all, to President Barack Obama, in office less than nine months?

Thanks for posting that. Bolton continues to be a voice of reason and vast experience, and one Americans should heed.

His conclusion is dead-on accurate: the award to Obama is a debacle for many reasons.

“The Nobel Committee, as its chairman proudly boasted, has engaged in “realpolitik,” directly intervening in American politics. It has thereby shown just how little it understands our country, it has gravely undermined its own credibility, and it has devalued the Peace Prize itself. Instead of preening itself on the wonderfulness of honoring Obama, the Nobel Committee should have worried more that it was actually hanging an albatross around his neck.”

It doesn’t matter that this award is a joke. It only matters that Comrade Zer0 received it. His lackeys will proudly point to that when you, logically, point out his many failings as a human being and as a president.

Another good one from John Bolton.

What impresses me is how shamelessly George Bush-centric the Nobels have been. I had forgotten about the Nobel committee member saying the one awarded to Jimmy Carter was a “kick in the leg” to Bush.

Instead of preening itself on the wonderfulness of honoring Obama, the Nobel Committee should have worried more that it was actually hanging an albatross around his neck.

Most memorable post: "The Nobel Committee essentially provided Obama with an endless supply of rope."

===================================================

ANALYSIS Mark Steyn insightfully wrote: Why should Obama squander his presidency trying to turn an economically-moribund feudal Mideast backwater like Afghanistan into a functioning nation state, when he can turn the functioning nation-state of America into an economically-moribund feudal backwater?

It took the Nobel Prize to finally unveil the conspiracies of Ohaha/Rahm (and all the Dem sheeps in wolves clothing). When candidate Obama suggested he wanted to be another Reagan, the intent was to gull the electorate. Now the lefty Nobelists blew his cover.

Obama's handler, the wily Rahm Emanuel, duped the American electorate time and time again. (a) He ran the Marxist Ohaha as a clone of Ronald Reagan. (b) As 2006 Dem Congressional Campaign Committee Chair, Rahm ran Godless, lefty Congressional candidates in solid Republican districts as "reverential believers."

Rahm's motto: "Party First, America Last." He is mentally disturbed: obsessed with party politics. Installing a permanent leftist majority of Dims is his game. This nasty toad evinces an utter contempt for US culture.

Calculated Rahm softly/coyly speaks the language to appeal to American values, but this conniver is nothing more than a latter-day Uriah Heep. Like Uriah Heep, power-hungry Rahm feeds on others, and deploys self-serving strategies for his own self-absorbed purposes.

Dickens' ingratiating scoundrel (from David Copperfield) fits Rahm to a tee. Uriah Heep was notorious for wielding undue influence, a manipulative bounder who was always planning and plotting, ingratiating himself into the confidence of others. Uriah Heep was obsequious, manipulative, and wormed his way into positions of influence. Uriah was a consummate con man, and not to be trusted. Translated into the language of the popular culture, Uriah Heep Rahm, positions himself as amenable to American values but is insincere in these feelings; he uses issues and crises to advance his hidden agendas and political ambitions.

REFERENCE Obama was the Peace Prize winner b/c of the Committee's hopes for his world-impact -- but at home Obama has been on a roll . In 9 months, he has breathed life into Republicans, boosted pro-lifers, tarnished regulation, bolstered traditional values, increased the public's desire for immigration restriction, and shifted independent voters rightward......revivifying conservatism qualifies as a feat almost as miraculous as Moses turning back oceans. Gallup surveys are a long catalog of the Obama snap-back. 40% describe themselves as conservative -- a level last seen in 2004. 51% call themselves pro-life -- a significant shift. 57% say government is trying to do too many things best left to the private sector. It's the worst showing for govt regulation ever in a Gallup survey. When candidate Obama suggested he wanted to be "another Reagan," this wasn't what he had in mind. But for now, he's the right's best community organizer....for Republicans.

What’s the difference? hussein was awarded the Nobel not for what he’s done but a hope for what he will do. I see no difference with voters electing Hussein not for what he’s done but on hopes of what he’ll do.

So now obozo has something else in common with Yasser Arafat, Jimmah Carter and Algore.

And Winston Churchill and Ghandi never won it?

The prize committee has succeeded in devaluing its own award.

Yup——no question.

Ohaha should share the prize with his “matching buddy” USAG Holder-—the sucker who told America we are a “nation of cowards” WRT race.

Lenin said it was impossible to accomplish “successful” socialism without the cooperation of all nations. America drives/drove wealth worldwide, has/had the most powerful military and is/was the soul reason socialist countries can’t complete their mission. Norway is trying to help us along to “utopia”.

"Bolton continues to be the voice of reason"

If it weren't for Bolton(and Wolfowitz), Obama wouldn't have won the prize.

Obama won not because of something he did, but because of what he didn't do.

I won't say that he has totally eliminated NeoCon input to his foreign policy decisions, but he has limited it, especially from the NeoCon extremists like Bolton.

The selection of Obama for the prize by the Nobel committee was actually a very smart move on their part. They are essentially “preempting” Obama’s ability to do anything of a military nature while in office. And they know that Obama’s narcissism will prevent him from turning the award down - thereby locking him in to their will.

They’ve got him right where they want him.
