McCain took five questions about health care, and heard from several other people, including one who challenged his conservative credentials and several who said they deeply opposed Obama policies and expansion of the government into health care or other facets of personal life.
(snip)
The only note of disagreement came from Gabriela Mercer, a naturalized citizen from Mexico who repeatedly challenged McCains conservative credentials, saying he has not represented Arizona on immigration issues. McCain defended his record and said he recently won an award for tight-fisted spending.

"Gabriela, anyone who opposes comprehensive reform is a bigot!"
Isn’t it cute how McNuts acts all conservative right after the news comes out that J.D. Hayworth is pondering running against him?

I hope JD runs and whallops McCain.
Run JD run . . . for McCain’s seat.
Run John run . . . into retirement.

I read the article and saw nothing about McCain referring to anyone as a “bigot.” This is what his clone, Senator Gramnesty, called those who were opposed to comprehensive (a/k/a amnesty) immigration reform. McCain is a great American war hero and very strong on national defense. His remarks on ObamaCare were very critical and, I think, completely consistent with a conservative position. Yes, he was very weak on the illegal immigration issue but I think he’s learned his lesson since the election. That is, on that issue you can’t be Obama-lite and still rally the conservative base.

Oh I’m sorry. I forgot my /sarc tag.
That’s great news about JD thinking of running against mclame. Time for Juan to stick around Sedona full time and get the hell out of our face.
The Democrats loaded up on the student vote in Tempe to defeat JD. They won’t be able to do that on a state-wide level.
You also decided to add invented words to your own posted article. Very creative. Reminds me somehow of Gibbs at an Obama press conference.
Well John can say whatever he wants now, he’s made enough comments so far this year to bury anyone.
Here’s to that prospect!
I didn't add any words to the article.
I did, however, caption the photo in post 1 (that would be the place where I can actually write comments of my own).
Good thought that we need Sarah, but let's back up a step.
Who was it making life difficult for Sarah? The RINO pork corruption Republicans in league with the also corrupt DemoRats. Sarah whipped 'em both, and straightened out Alaska. True, we wouldn't hear much about it from the MSM, they know her character assassins like to work in secret, and the MSM loves to help....the assassins.
But legendary leaders, like Sarah will be, are eventually lauded and introduced around the campfire,...talk radio and the Internet. It was inevitable.
McCain's pick of Palin was not from policy, it was from desperation. He picked her in envy and last chance selfishness.
Any Republican that wanted to win would pick her. If it was a truly consistently conservative Republican, that picked her, Sarah would be cleaning up Chicago, an 0bama would be in a cell right now.
I am failing to see how high co-payments helps out an unemployed person whose benefits have run out. Can they at least work off their medical bills with a government guaranteed $50 per hour lettuce picking job?
I wouldn't call selling arms to Muslim terrorists a strong national defense stance.
I was well aware of Sarah Palin long before McLame picked for his VP spot.
No, he is a former POW, there is a difference.
he was very weak on the illegal immigration issue but I think hes learned his lesson since the election.
Weak on illegal immigration? No, he led the charge for amnesty, by another name. He hasn't learned anything, I've sent him several e-mails challenging his mis-statements on border issues since the election, requesting a response, I'm still waiting.
More than once on his trips here to convince us he represents us, I've seen him turn red in the face, and blow up telling those of us who live on the border, we don't know what were talking about on border issues.
John McCain can not be trusted to do the right thing on any border issue.
John McCain needs to be fired, by the Arizona voters, next November.
Following the posted article you have in QUOTATION marks, “Gabriella, anyone who opposed comprehensive reform is a bigot.” Who are you quoting? The very clear implication is that you’re quoting McCain from the posted article. Yet this quote appears nowhere in the article, and certainly isn’t from McCain but from you. All I’m saying is that we have an obligation to other FReepers to clearly distinguish between the words in the posted article and our own commentary on it. I don’t want to make this an irrelevant personal argument but just a plea for accuracy and clarity in who said what to whom.
Read my tagline. Get rid of them all, the good ones will be able to find their way back into Washington if they are worth their salt.AWB

Go Hayworth. I cannot stand Juan McCain. He is as bad as his horrible daughter.
You should read more about this great American hero. His father and grandfather were admirals and from them, and his years in the Naval Academy, the great American military traditions of discipline, sacrifice, and honor became part of his very being. And his greatest heroism was not being shot down from the sky but his years of incredible, almost inhuman cruelty as a POW when he could have easily been released by simply signing a release form and appealing to his father. But he wouldn’t do it unless all his subordinates were also released. I don’t mean this personally but I’m really appalled that some are willing to impugn this man’s indisputable heroism and sacrifice for his nation because they don’t like some of his political positions (which I don’t either!). It really makes me very sad that some Americans have now become incapable of recognizing genuine military heroism at its best because of some political differences.
I think Gariella’s ‘quote’ is clearly done as a lampooning paraphrase caption for the photo just above, and is fairly set off in the comment section of her thread posting.
As to McCain having learned a thing or two, I think you’re kidding either yourself or us. I hope his military heroism hasn’t blinded you to who he is as a politician—as that’s a dangerous perspective for our country.
I took an oath to support, and defend the Constitution. I take it as seriously today as I did when I took it 43 years ago, I have no respect for anyone who takes that oath, then ignores it.
McCain-Feingold? The anti-free speech law that he rammed through, and is about to be overturned?
What he did 40 years ago was very commendable, but he's an eff'n Disaster as a CONSERVATIVE SENATOR! If he had retired after 30 years in the military, he could be held up as an example.
BUT NOOOO! This fool had to run on his war record (talk about running on a guilt trip!), and get elected to the senate, as the most go-along-to-get-along Republican this side of the Mississippi! Then, he runs as the most tin-eared blundering milk-livered bozo of a Presidential candidate since Gerald Ford, and we have Dear Leader as a result! Thanks a whole heap, there, Juan!
How does being tortured in Viet Nam qualify or demonstrate legislative talent?
In this case the "hero" is a political dufus and media whore. Would you buy a car from a GM dealer who was always working with his opposition, Chrysler, to fix prices? GOP = Democrat especially when Senator Depends is in front of a camera.
I respect JD, but I’m hoping that Simcox wins it in ‘10.
You are SO right but in a state wide election we will have to contend with Tucson.
You need to do some research on Chris Simcox. I doubt you will feel the same way about him after a little fact finding.AWB
Is there anything you know about Simcox that bothers you? I’m listening if you don’t mind telling me.
I worked with Chris for 2 years with the Minutemen, as I have stated on this board before I will not bash him in public nor will I ever support him for any office. Google around the web and you will find out who the true Chris Simcox is.AWB

McCain says:
"Why don't you shut your political pie hole?"
Stifling the www? Online Freedom of Speech Act (H.R. 1606)
"1606 is needed because federal courts have ordered the Federal Election Commission to regulate "electioneering communications" on the Internet because of the Bipartisan Campaign Finance Reform Act (McCain-Feingold). If H.R. 1606 fails to become law, your Web site or blog could be shut down for the 30 days prior to a primary election and the 60 days prior to a general election should you express "electioneering communications."
John McCain, enemy of free speech
I want to thank you guys for your good comments and to say that I don’t think we disagree that much. I’m NOT a fan of McCain and only voted AGAINST Obama in the last election. I don’t like McCain-Feingold or McCain’s past support of de facto amnnesty for illegal immigrants. But I disagree with your opinions that McCain’s past is as irrelevant as you maintain, especilly in regard to Viet Nam. After all, we Republicans rightly attacked Kerry for his phony and fake made-up role in that war. Why? Because the past is prologue. It had to do with his basic honor, decency and integrity. His essential CHARACTER. And I think McCain’s years in Viet Nam tell us about his character. The past is NOT as irrelevant as you say. And McCain is a genuine American hero. I guess my real gripe is that some want to disparage McCain’s military heroism because of political differences. OK! I have many political differences with him also! But let’s not try to diminish his heroism because of that. It only diminishes us. We can’t let our political disagreements cross the line into baseless personal attacks on a great American hero. And, yes, I do think McCain may have learned something about all the dangers of the illegal invasion. Who knows? What do you think?
It’s not his heroism that I despise, it’s his politics!
No one who enters politics in this day and age has ANY honor, decency or integrity. They have to leave that at the door when they join the club.
If McCain has any of those qualities left, he would have long since gone on TV and to the print media, and told about all the backroom deals and filth that has gone on since he joined the United States House of Lords.
The bravest lion's teeth will rot if you feed it too much sugar. He has had 27 years at the trough...
OK - if you read my previous post (#47) I think that you’ll see that we agree on that.
