Al Qaeda and the Taliban: together again (Taliban begs Obama not to send more troops, fear defeat)
Long War Journal ^ | 2009 Oct 7 | Bill Roggio

The Taliban have released a clever piece of disinformation today, which clearly is aimed at US policymakers as well as the American public as the Obama administration decides on a new path forward in Afghanistan. In this latest statement, the Taliban are claiming they have no aspirations to be involved in the global jihad. From the Voice of Jihad, the Taliban's official propaganda arm online:

We announce to all the world, our aim is obtainment of independence and establishment of an Islamic system. We did not have any agenda to harm other countries including Europe nor we have such agenda today. Still if you want to turn the country of the proud and pious Afghans into a colony, then know that we have an unwavering determination and have braced for a prolonged war.

Today's Taliban press release highlights al Qaeda's media savvy. The statement likely will be cited by proponents of the theory that the Taliban is a local insurgency disassociated with al Qaeda, and that a US shift to a counterterrrorism strategy aimed at hunting al Qaeda leaders will not facilitate the return of al Qaeda in Afghanistan. Tom Joscelyn and I will publish a much more in depth analysis on this subject over at The Long War Journal. In the mean time, here are some statements by two al Qaeda leaders and a Haqqani Network leader who disagree with the concept that the Taliban and al Qaeda are not closely linked.

The Taliban is afraid of another nightmare of a surge engaged in Iraq, by General Petraeus. They know more troops will mean a surge and their defeat. This news indicates more troops will defeat Taliban, and Taliban made announcements that they are not part of foreign terror operations for Al Qaida so that President Obama and policy makers will not have to send more troops to Afghanistan. Taliban understands they will be defeated if more troops are sent. The Taliban is afraid, and the President has no clue.

Just a few days ago, there wasa a story on the AP wires that Obozo wants to be friends with the Taliban. That and the fact he has a Nobel Peace Prize, should tell you what direction Obozo is going to take regarding Afghanistan. The Taliban aren’t afraid, that’s why they’re going along with Obama. The Taliban basically run that country now. They’re in areas of the country they were never in prior to the first bombs dropping in October 2001.

Will Reid get in front of a camera and announce that we have lost the war and surrender like he did with Iraq?

“...establishment of an Islamic system.”

That’s all you need to read to know that peace is NOT in their plan. The Jihad playbook, the koran, requires that they bring the infidel (us) under the rule of islam in one of three ways: convert us, enslave us, or kill us.

I vote for ‘none of the above’.

Tell ‘em to pound sand.

The boy acting as President will give the muslims everything that they want and the liberals will cheer him on.

Next go round we might think of electing a Christian American.

When my youngest returned from Afghanistan in 2004, he showed me photos on his laptop of the locals. There was the cutest little boy standing on a large dirty mound with a very cute ear to ear grin for the camera. " How cute!" I said when his photo popped up on the laptop. My son said "Do you know what that is he is standing on?". "Dirt?" was my answer. "Dung" he replied, "the kid is standing on a huge pile of goat poo".

I now lay awake at night worried about how the metrosexuals currently in charge will deal with a nation that hasn't moved past Biblical times. I just don't think they will be able to think beyond their own feelings.

What they say means absolutely nothing.

Muslims are allowed by their religion to lie to infidels, meaning us, especially if it means furthering their cause.

If you are a muslim, you support the coming of the global caliphate, and that means total dominance.

Wrong, the question here is do we go for the trillions in nation building are do we just kill the hell out of the Taliban. I’m for killing the Taliban and those that enable them.
