FORT WORTH U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison landed a coveted endorsement Monday from the Texas Farm Bureau, which some expected would go to incumbent Republican Gov. Rick Perry, the states former agriculture commissioner in her bid to become the next Texas governor.
Farm Bureau officials say that they did not make the decision lightly, but that it was not difficult because it involves "a matter of trust."
"This is the most important race for governor in a long time," Kenneth Dierschke, president of the Texas Farm Bureau, said in a statement read at a local news conference. "For the future of Texas, we call for new leadership. We call for new ideas and a new vision. We know that Texans will trust Gov. Hutchison in the same way weve always trusted Sen. Hutchison."
Perry has received the Texas Farm Bureaus endorsement in the past, but some group members say theyve lost faith in him and his support of private property rights. They cite his veto of an eminent domain bill in 2006 and support for the shelved Trans-Texas Corridor toll road proposal that would have eaten up ranch and farm land across the state.
The endorsement gives Hutchison a coup in snaring a group that has backed Perry, an alumnus of Texas A&M who grew up on a West Texas farm. But Perry spokesman Mark Miner said the governor retains strong support among "rank-and-file farmers," adding, "Were confident well have their support."
The latest endorsement announcement is illustrative of efforts by both candidates to secure the backing of prestigious groups and individuals as they compete for their partys nomination in the March 2 Republican primary.

lol she could move to another state
If ACORN showed us anything it’s “grassroots time” Using thier own tactics against them will leave them bewildered and befuddled.
They may say it; but are they going to vote it?
As a long standing member of Texas Farm Bureau, I am confused on why TFB has taken such a stand considering the “moderate and drifting to lib” positions poor lil Kay Bailey has assumed. I do not say that lightly as before she began drifting more and more toward W’s “compassionate conservative” trap and her tossing her hat in the TexGov ring, I was a supporter and voter for KBH everytime.
People keep forgetting there is another candidate running for governor.

Texans shouldn’t take this too seriously. In Kansas, although most members and county FB chairs support the more conservative candidates, the state President is always in the tank for the craziest lib candidate. And he gets to make the endorsements.
Well, I guess I can agree with this statement.
‘...I am confused on why TFB has taken such a stand considering the moderate and drifting to lib positions poor lil Kay Bailey has assumed.’
three words...follow the money!
Yep, no doubt big shots at TFB see some ‘benefit” to KBH, screww the members. No diff than jerk union leaders.
In Texas they have decent car insurance and good discounts for places like Grainger which make up for the “big shots’ dopy ideas.
