After visiting Tegucigalpa last week and meeting with a cross section of leaders from Honduras's government, business community, and civil society, I can report there is no chaos there. There is, however, chaos to spare in the Obama administration's policy toward our poor and loyal allies in Honduras. In a day packed with meetings, we met only one person in Honduras who opposed Mr. Zelaya's ouster, who wishes his return, and who mystifyingly rejects the legitimacy of the November elections: U.S. Ambassador Hugo Llorens.

I am surprised he was ‘allowed’ to go on this trip. This should be in breaking news.
*Bump*
Senator DeMint just layed the smack down on the administration. It’s no wonder they didn’t want him to go: they knew he’d come back and write a piece like this.
I hope that Senator DeMint speaks up in Congress and gets this information on C-Span and in the Congressional Record.
0bama-Care = Waterloo
0bama-Afghanistan = Vietnam
0bama-Iran = Armageddon
Molon Labe!
He’s the best senator (or maybe congressman as well) that we have right now.
This is big news.
No kidding!
why the U.S. government insists on labeling what appears to the entire country to be the constitutional removal of Mr. Zelaya a "coup," he urged me to read the legal opinion drafted by the State Department's top lawyer, Harold Koh. As it happens, I have asked to see Mr. Koh's report before and since my trip, but all requests to publicly disclose it have been denied.
State Department will not show congressmen its legal opinion
He had to travel on his own dime. John Kerry, who visited our Vietnam enemies in Paris, stopped any government money to pay for DeMint's trip to visit our Honduran allies.
I sent the mods a request to put this in breaking news. This is a HUGH story.
I think John Kerry tried to stop the trip.
I didn’t know that. Thank you, what a class act.
I tend to agree. Bravo Senator DeMint!
It’s interesting how in this piece he’s daring the administration to make the State Department’s legal analysis of the “coup” public. That analysis is obviously at direct odds with the recent Library of Congress analysis and is the basis of the administration’s policy. But the administration has refused to make it public. I’m guessing they know it’s shaky and would get torn to pieces if it were.

That jumped out at me too.

“Our ambassador is the only person I met there who thinks there was a ‘coup.’ Let’s release the State Department legal analysis.”
It’s easy to see why Obama is backing a communist dictator...
And he’s hoping that his condemnation of the ‘coup’ will fool Americans...
We are certainly standing up and taking notice of how the Hondurans peacefully ousted a wannabe usurper and this scares the beejeebus out of Obama.
Anyone?
...at all?
Where in blazes is the US "press corps"? Or are they the "Press Corpse?"
Wait, he won the Nobel, it's a major award !
Hi, a quick search found this from U.S. Mission to Geneva, Switz. Sept 28, 09. Press briefing.
excerpt:
“Question: My question regards Honduras. Brazil has just put a resolution in the Human Rights Council about the situation there. Id like to know how do you assess the situation on human rights being so close to Honduras.
Then the United States also said that it could help to protect the Brazilian [Enmucadera], so Id like to know how that could happen, what kind of protection we are talking about.
Finally there has been some disagreement about the right forum to introduce this subject between Brazil and the United States. Ms. Rice said the Security Council wouldnt be the more adequate forum for that. So Id like to know which one would be.
Mr. Koh: As you know, the crisis in Honduras has been going on now for more than three months. I know this because it happened the day after I came into office, so I kept very close track.
Today may be actually the most delicate moment of all because of the location of the various parties, et cetera.
First on the issue of the Brazilian Embassy, as the international lawyer for the U.S. government, obviously the respect for the inviolability of diplomatic premises is something that the United States is deeply committed to. With regard to the Honduras situation itself, this is something in which we have supported the process being convened and conducted by the former President of Costa Rica, Oscar Arias Sanchez, the Nobel Peace Prize Winner. Our hope is that a solution can be brought about in that setting which can be respectful of the right of democratic governance as well as the human rights of all Hondurans.
....
Question I would like to come back to Honduras and what is going on. It seems that in fact the government has rejected, the de facto government has rejected the OAE mission. The two people were not allowed to come back to the country. They dont want this mission to go on. So you say that in fact for Honduras we have to go on with this setting, but this setting doesnt seem to fit. So what are the, I dont know, the propositions of the United States regarding this particular issue?
The second thing, we have had different human rights reports on the human rights violations there, so what will be your position in this Human Rights Council regarding Honduras and the resolution proposed by Brazil?
Mr. Koh: Again, we would prefer to state our position on particular resolutions as they come up. In some cases, depending on what version comes up of Resolution A or B, we would have a different view. So I think it would be premature for us to comment on that point.
What I have said earlier is that the Honduras crisis has been a subject of shifting events from day to day. So what you may have reported is the latest situation, but it may not be the final situation. So what we are continuing to do is to support the restoration of democratic governance and the protection of human rights for all Hondurans, and we believe the process which is best able to accomplish that is the process which is being supervised by former President Arias.”

The state Department lawyer is Harold Koh. He is really big on injecting international law. I hope Demint can get it released.

This is an absolutely great piece by DeMint.
here’s a good compilation of why Harold Koh is no friend to our Constitution or the the liberties it protects
No kidding, obama is appeasing commies, this stuff needs to be exposed.
DeMint

The Obammunist prosecutes the legal opinions of presidents. Don't look ever to see an administration legal opinion.
That's what The Kenyan has Commissars for. They enforce the party line without accountability.
They are immune from subpoena. They have executive privilege.

The Lies coming from Obama Hussein regarding Honduras are justifiable Gounds to Begin IMPEACHMENT PROCEEDINGS on The Fraud Occupying OUR WHITE HOUSE!!
CONGRATULATIONS!!! To Senator Jim DeMint for His trip to Honduras and the Revealing of The TRUTH THAT IT IS NO COUP!
Why?
How can he reject an election before it has taken place?
Does he have a mental disorder?
Harold Kohs judicial transnationalism provides camouflage for him to do the old living constitutionalist gambit of translating his policy preferences into the guise of constitutional law.
From National review.
He's able to say the right things, and he's in the thick of all the big issues. I just wish he could get a little more media attention. We could use a guy like him, who's actually doing things, and not just talking about them.
The Obama thugs and the MSM will try to discredit DeMint in every way they can. I would not put it past the president to sic some of those "doctors" in white coats on him to take him away to a funny farm.
I may be exagerrating....but not by much.

Kick butt, take names.
all the more reason to have his assessment made public
This is an outstanding report!
Thank you, Senator DeMint for taking the trip and for reporting on it.

Counterbalance to Grahamnesty. How can the people of SC be so right and at the same time so wrong?
"Hondurans are therefore left scratching their heads. They know why Hugo Chávez, Daniel Ortega and the Castro brothers oppose free elections and the removal of would-be dictators, but they can't understand why the Obama administration does."

Sen. Demint comments on Honduras. Obama wants, or wanted Zeyala reinstated.
This thing has really chapped my A$$. It is just a shining example of this administration’s penchant for Dogma over the rule of law.
If the zero has his way the US won’t be far behind.
“There is, however, chaos to spare in the Obama administration’s policy toward our poor and loyal allies in Honduras.”
Signature Obama. Bravo Senator Demint for this exposure. Keep this in the forefront, though Honduras is small in a strategic sense, this story has all the ingredients that should be an awakening to the intent of this administration for the good old USA.
Thanks for posting this and thank you, Republican Senator DeMint! God bless you for going and getting the facts and for exposing the Obammunists and Clintonistas who want fellow Communists installed in EVERY possible country.....joining the USA which is under the control of communists (in the White House, the State Dept, and the Congress),
Never use the word “liberals” or “Democrats” to describe the vermin now in power.

Stay strong, Hondurans! Those who love freedom in this country and around the world are with you!
