Obama Undeserving of Nobel Peace Prize (According to The Progressive)
The Progressive ^ | October 9, 2009 | Matthew Rothschild

Posted on 10/09/2009 12:12:42 PM PDT by nickcarraway

I’m sorry, there’s a lot I admire about Barack Obama, but he doesn’t deserve the Nobel Peace Prize.

Not while he’s waging a war in Afghanistan, which he’s already escalated, and may be about to escalate again.

Not while he still hasn’t pulled U.S. troops out of Iraq, nor while he’s going to keep tens of thousands of private military contractors there indefinitely.

Not while he endorses Bush’s heinous policy of “extraordinary renditions.”

Not while asserts the right to indefinitely detain people without habeas corpus rights at Bagram Air Base.

Not while he fails to successfully prod Israel to give up the Occupied Territories.

And not while he keeps our nuclear arsenal on hair-trigger alert.

The Nobel committee actually praised him for his position on nuclear weapons, but he hasn’t taken this first, crucial step toward making the world a safer place.

The Nobel committee rewarded Obama’s rhetoric.

I love Obama’s rhetoric, too.

I loved his speech on the nuclear issue.

I loved his speech where he unambiguously renounced torture.

I loved his speech in Cairo, which marked a huge break from George Bush, by showing respect to the Muslim world and owning up to some of the past crimes of U.S. foreign policy.

And I loved his speech at the Summit of the Americas, which promised a noninterventionist approach to this hemisphere. That would be quite a departure from 100 years of U.S. imperial policy.

But he doesn’t deserve the Nobel Peace Prize just because he isn’t George Bush.

And he doesn’t deserve the Nobel Peace Prize just on the basis of rhetoric.

No, the Nobel Peace Prize should reward a career of bold peace activism.

And, to say the least, the jury is still out on Obama on that one.

I wonder what color the sky is on Mr. Rothschild’s world. I’ll bet he’s never held a real job a day in his life.

I cannot come up with anything that the Obamaloon is deserving of - save for a double pull of my toilet handle.

I am duplicating this post in several serious threads so that we can know that this was the vote of just FIVE Norwegian Politicians!!!

Just for everybody's info, these are the 5 Nobel Peace Prize Electors as appointed by Norway's Parliament:

1) Thorbjørn Jagland (chair, born 1950), member of Parliament, President of the Storting and former cabinet minister for the Labour Party. Member and chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee since 2009.
2) Kaci Kullmann Five (deputy chair, born 1951), former member of Parliament and cabinet minister for the Conservative Party. Member of the Norwegian Nobel Committee since 2003, deputy chair since 2009.
3) Sissel Rønbeck (born 1950), deputy director, Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage (Riksantikvaren), former member of parliament and cabinet minister for the Labour Party. Member of the Norwegian Nobel Committee since 1994.
4) Inger-Marie Ytterhorn (born 1941), former member of Parliament for the Progress Party. Member of the Norwegian Nobel Committee since 2000.
5) Ågot Valle (born 1945), member of parliament for the Socialist Left Party. Member of the Norwegian Nobel Committee since 2009.

By political affiliations it would appear to be one puntative conservative and 4 on the left ranging to wild left.

Numbers 3 & 4 were on this committee when James Earl Carter won in 2002 and #2 joined in time to vote on Albert Arnold Gore Junior in 2007. Note that being on the committee does not mean that any given member voted for any given candidate [smile]!

“I” love his speeches — heck, it beats sitting before the television screen with my stomach and panties all in a knot hoping GW won't butcher the English language, add to the lexicon or otherwise make me cringe BUT, his speeches have accomplished about has much as I have in the arena of world peace and foreign policy. How this deserves an “atta’ boy” is beyond comprehension. If that's the case, 99.9 percent of the world's population deserves the prize. It's the 1/10th of 1 percent of lunatics with their fingers on the buttons of power who should be back on their meds and placed in a nice padded room where they can't hurt themselves and others.

This writer made the same arguments as SNL did last week.

But what is Communist Party USA’s take?

I AM SO DISGUSTED WITH THIS SH*T! I have had to say away from FreeRepublic today because my disgust is so great I was concerned that I would go overboard with my comments.

To me, it shows me that the Nobel Peace prize is a booby prize for any friggin’ idiot that blows smoke out their a$$ ...

Here I go ... sorry if I offended anyone, but I need to cool down ... maybe tomorrow will be a better day. We just have not had any positive news here lately and it is getting to me.

Thanks for reading.

Did you ever actually watch a Bush speech? A State of the Union perhaps? This whole "Bush is a lousy speaker" is in large part a creation of the leftist media. Meanwhile, Obama gets away with "57 states" "a breathylizer," etc.

Go here if you want to see the real President Bush. You'll enjoy it immensely:

OK you lost me. Was Matthew Rothschild posting a satirical commentary or a real one? Was he actually being critical of the One?

THANK you, JennysCool!

President Bush was most certainly NOT a "lousy speaker."

I think some of these folks listened to the MSM well-chosen soundbites and not the speeches themselves. I heard him speak in person 4 times and in each venue he spoke without notes, without teleprompters, and without any Ummmms and Errrrrs.

He was a far better extemporaneous speaker than Obama, who can't put two words together without reading them.

This is liberal hogwash.
