N.M.'s gov has five Nobel Peace Prize nominations ... for actually doing something.
We're happy for President Barack Obama's surprise selection as this year's Nobel Peace Prize winner, of course, but we can't help wondering why New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, who has been nominated for the prestigious award five times, has been passed over once again.
Richardson, after all, has actually contributed to world peace through his diplomatic efforts in countries like Sudan and North Korea -- at least according to Rep. Bart Gordon, a Tennessee Democrat who nominated Richardson for the honor in 2007.

The governor's own Web site modestly proclaims that "few can match his wide-ranging experience and his level of dedication to protecting the rights and improving the quality of life of people in New Mexico, the United States and around the world."
Richardson, according to the Web site, "has met face-to-face with some of the world's most intimidating leaders. He negotiated the release of prisoners from Saddam Hussein, convinced corrupt foreign heads of state to step down, and oversaw and reformed one of the most challenging and unmanageable agencies in government, the Department of Energy."

It was Obama, after all, who said during his presidential campaign that "words matter."
Concrete actions and accomplishments? Maybe not so much.

Time for tagline change....
If he's willing to improve in that area, I'm sure he'll win it.
The article makes a good point. Bill did have more famous and substantive initiative (well OK he did not succeed at it but neither has Obama) than Obama.
After all, Bill tried to recruit Monica Lewinsky to a UN post. Personally, I think that would be stiff competition.
Oh, I don’t know. Obama is so much more qualified than King Bill. I mean, after all, he has accomplished, um, um, um, uh, uh, uh. Hummm, what exactly has he accomplished? lol..
