New York to fight terrorism with more street-corner cameras
The Christian Science Monitor ^ | October 5, 2009 | Ron Scherer

New York - On the heels of breaking up an alleged bomb terror plot, New York is planning to place high-tech security cameras, license plate readers, and "weapons sensors" in midtown Manhattan.

Office workers and tourists – and possible terrorists – will have cameras watching their every move as they visit Macy's, shop for diamonds at Tiffany & Co., or gawk in Times Square. The apparatus, paid for by some $24 million in Department of Homeland Security funding, will expand a similar effort already underway in lower Manhattan where cameras focus on the Federal Reserve, the New York Stock Exchange, and the Brooklyn Bridge.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg, announcing the program Sunday, said the goal is to detect terrorism threats and deter pre-operational surveillance. Sensors will try to detect chemical, biological, and radiological threats.

NYPD plays the role of Big Brother 1984.

George Orwell's dream comes true - in the form of a surveillance camera.

Fascist Police State. Remember Nazi Germany, anyone?

All those cameras didn’t do a damn thing to stop the London bombing. Big Brother thugs.

We’ve let muslims determine how we act in many other ways, so why not this one too?

We’re being RULED now, not governed. The likes of Al Gore won’t be happy until we’re all stumbling around in the dark with candles.

You can’t even buy a decent tasting doughnut in the place. As far as I’m concerned, you can give it to the Muzzies with my compliments.

Ushering in the police state is their plan, as rear-guard action, because people are already waking up to the globalist elite’s plans.

Also, life under the NWO and Antichrist’s rule will be a fascist police state. Remember Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Germany?

CSM is misnamed.

I caught a “Simpsons” on someone else’s TV recently and noticed some reverse psychology propaganda. They overtly slated CSM, but it was actually reverse psychology to cause conservatives to trust it.

TV is constantly screwing with your head. It’s a full-time job analyzing it.

I hope that you are far from Bedford Avenue. I effectively live in “New Williamsburg” myself. Why oh why did the disease have to spread to Queens? ;)

There is ONE decent donut shop left on 14th Street (Donut Pub), but the owner is elderly, and a Dunkin Donuts just opened a block away. :(

How could I forget! You told me that before.

Nice to be surrounded by lovely Syrian Hebrew princesses who are off limits unless you are SY.

The most expensive house ever sold in Brooklyn, btw, is in Gravesend. Can't remember the address, however.

Sure. TV fires both kinds at you. For example there will be a constant subliminal message of pessimism about the US, and that the liberal/left establishment is so powerful it’s not worth fighting it, and then there will be a liminal message trying to convince you of the premise of the day. It’s layered.

Any more, I make my own on Sunday mornings. The secret is to use real lard. I distribute them like gold pieces to my friends who slaver and slobber over them.

Will these PREVENT the attacks or just provide details like license plate numbers for the subsequent investigation?

Cameras do not provide vigilance against attacks.

*** Wait a minute, isn’t that an invasion of privacy? ***

You have no expectation of privacy when you are out in public. So says the Supreme Court.

*** What if I don’t want to be recorded 24/7? ***

Stay inside your house.

they have those on every corner in London too and it ain’t for watching terrorists. And it aint’ gonna be to watch terrorist in NYC either. It’s to watch US citizens.

There’s no way to stop this i suppose. It’s another chip away at our freedom.

Ever watched the 1998 movie Enemy of the State? That, at best, is a microcosm of a surveillance state.
