Border fence funds pulled at request of lawmakers

WASHINGTON — A provision to build an additional 300 miles of pedestrian fence along the U.S.-Mexico border has been stripped out of a $42.8 billion spending bill for the Department of Homeland Security.

The provision by Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., was removed at the behest of House members from Texas, Arizona and California who called the fencing a waste of taxpayer money and an ineffective way to secure the border.

“We need to invest and secure our border and our land ports without being tied down to an amendment that is out of touch with border needs,” said Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Laredo, who spearheaded the effort to remove the provision DeMint tucked into a Senate spending bill earlier this year.

The provision, approved 54-44 in the Senate in July, was supported by both Republican and Democratic senators from Texas, California and Arizona. New Mexico's two Democratic senators opposed the additional pedestrian fence.

The House version of the bill did not contain the provision.

And yet again, the elitist gasbags in the regal congress have shoved their porky thumbs into the the eye of the American public.

Another step on the path to progressivism; securing the dhimmirat majority by importing new voters...

It’s time to take back the country.

So where is the 42.8 billion going to go then? New CHP cruisers? Public Pensions? Politicians fat asses?

a waste of taxpayer money

Lets put the money to a much better use: Placing another couple of inches of asphalt over perfectly fine highway, all over the US (and bikeways too!)

And fast, before they legalize them.

Pray for some Republican leadership. Pray for the RINOs to get a clue and quit and go live in florida for some deep-sea fishing paid for by their ill-gotten gains.

Far less of a "waste" than the coming multi-millions that will have to be expended investigating mass murders by drug cartel types who will bring Mexico's drug war here in large measure. Thanks, Congress. You've done it again.

Note to the geniuses in congress: biometric fingerprinting or retinal scans at every point of entry, combined with enformcement of employment laws, will work wonders.

The fence helps, but not as much as what is mentioned above.

It does sound like a bunch of border Congresscritters and Senators have been PURCHASED by the drug cartels, but they were already bought and paid for by the growers who want that "cheap labor".

I don't think ANY of the politicians from the states bordering Mexico can be trusted ~ even if they're not directly involved in accepting the payoffs you never hear them speak up against this sort of thing.

Kind of like Chicago and environs ~ ALL the politicians are corrupt. Doesn't matter what party at all.

“works” implies a goal to achieve.

Do you honestly think their goal is to curb illegal immigration?

Let's see which side of the fence our Texas Governor candidates fall.

I suspect Perry will act like a stauch supporter since it's elelction time.

I suspect KBH will side with anti-fence border city mayors as she has in the past.

The Dem candidates will of course oppose any new border fence. ...or any border enforcement for that matter.

Pray for some Republican leadership

The GOP are the ones that got the funding for the fence in the bill. Democrats got it pulled.

Helps to actually read the article and find out what is going on rather the just screaming bile at the GOP 24/7/365

Need some active military patrolling the borders too. We cannot continue to play host to millions of illegals who come here (bringing pestilence like H1N1 and other previously under control diseases), and exhausting our resources.

Thanks for the ping.

Funds pulled for the remainder of the fence.

Thank the Democrats, and those who sat at home election day and the third party voters who facilitated this disaster.

I am not sure that is what is going on here. Henry Cuellar is more of an Atzlan-Re-conquest guy. His deal is a takeover of Texas by people from Mexico. I am not saying there is no corruption down there. The entire place is a cesspit of it, but he is more interested in political change.
