Population Controls, Including Abortion, Spark Gender Imbalance in China; 30 Million More Men Expected in 15 Years

BEIJING — China will have 30 million more men of marriageable age than women in less than 15 years as a gender imbalance resulting from the country's tough one-child policy becomes more pronounced, state media reported Friday.

The tens of millions of men who will not be able to find a wife could also lead to social instability problems, the China Daily said in a front-page report.

China imposed strict population controls in the 1970s to limit growth of its huge population, but one side effect has been a jump in gender selection of babies. Traditional preferences for a son mean some women abort their baby if an early term sonogram shows it is a girl.

"Discrimination against the female sex remains the primary cause of China's growing gender imbalance," Liu Bohong, vice director of the women studies institute under the All-China Women's Federation, was quoted as saying in a report from the State Population and Family Planning Commission.

Sex selective abortion is prohibited but the government says the practice remains widespread, especially in rural areas.

The report, carried in the newspaper, said China's sex ratio for newborn babies in 2005 was 118 boys to 100 girls, a huge jump from 110 to 100 in 2000.

In some regions such as the southern provinces of Guangdong and Hainan, the ratio has ballooned to 130 boys to 100 girls, the newspaper said. The average for industrialized countries is between 104 and 107 boys for every 100 girls.

The report predicted that by 2020 the imbalance would mean men of marriageable age — especially those with low income or little education — would find it difficult to find wives, resulting in possible social problems.

If we let nature take its course, girls and boys are conceived at the same rate in China as they are everywhere else in the world, very close to one-to-one.

China’s policy is NEUTRAL concerning gender.

In practice, however, parents decide to kill their unborn girls and not their unborn boys, and it is that practice, not the policy per se, that has caused the gender gap.

Demographics is one of the three forces that can destabilize China and bring down its current government. The other two are Christianity and free enterprise.

I wouldn’t count on China surviving as it is past 2020.

China will have 30 million more men of marriageable age than women in less than 15 years.

Of course they will have jobs since unlike America China is taking active measures to promote industry. And they will be paid in money that can be converted, unlike the US where Obama will inflate our currency into worthlessness. I can see a lot of American girls heading overseas to find men who act like men, instead of metro-sexual wimps. Remember all the Russian brides who came over to the US in the 1990's.

Either that or China will just start a war, since they will have a large surplus population.

Interesting study made here :

http://www.jstor.org/pss/2695209?cookieSet=1

The above article attributes 34% of all abortions to sex-selection, and says survey respondents (perhaps not reliable here) consider female infanticide negligible.

The only glimmer of light there is that simple under reporting may be more important than abortion for creating the skew in sex ratio – the actual situation is less skewed than the numbers suggest. But these data may be overtaken by the study quoted by China Daily, quoted by Fox News.

The USA is still a very generous country with lots of loving people. I have had the pleasure of seeing many families open their hearts to adorable little girls from China. While this does nothing for the sex ratio problem, it does show that many people in America have big hearts.

It's always been amazing to me how the N.O.W. (National Organization of (liberal) Women) can worship this Communist regime, which murders most of its female infants within minutes of their birth.

Liberalism is a mental disorder.

GO NORTH YOUNG CHINAMAN and take all the Russians women you can!

The Russian Population is DECREASING.

This article is from 3 years ago :

The trend has not stop since.

EXCERPT FROM THE ARTICLE :

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Russian President Vladimir Putin recently directed his nation's parliament to develop a plan to reduce the country's falling birthrate. In a speech to parliament on May 10, 2006, Putin called the problem of Russia's dramatically declining population, "The most acute problem of contemporary Russia."

The president called on parliament to provide incentives for couples to have a second child to increase the birth rate in order to stop the country's plummeting population.

Russia's population peaked in the early 1990s (at the time of the end of the Soviet Union) with about 148 million people in the country. Today, Russia's population is approximately 143 million. The United States Census Bureau estimates that Russia's population will decline from the current 143 million to a mere 111 million by 2050, a loss of more than 30 million people and a decrease of more than 20%.

The primary causes of Russia's population decrease and loss of about 700,000 to 800,000 citizens each year are a high death rate, low birth rate, high rate of abortions, and a low level of immigration.

Christianity has been quietly growing there.

The Chicoms keep control on their house churches, but folks can and do slip into “foreigner” churches where they can preach a gospel that does not enshrine the state as “God”. Then they spread the word, underground. The church is one of the few things that grows better under high pressure.

When enough people find it unconscionable to support the Communist system there, it will go away, probably by a bloodless revolution. In the meantime we will be blessed here if we only look like today’s Canada.

What is the estimated number of Christians in China ? I hear that it is as high as 10% of their population, but can’t seem to find a reliable source for this estimate.

All I know is that it is growing by leaps and bounds. In fact, Christianity is one of the fastest growing religions in China.

Liberalism certainly requires a tortured twisting of mind to keep going. I am not speaking of the liberalism of several centuries ago which affirmed all moral values that we do now while encouraging an inquiring mind. It is the crazy stuff the Democrats and some Republicans are doing now.

This is interesting... since China does not officially allow missionaries to go to their country, I wonder what accounts for the growth of Christianity...

Because it has to be so clandestine, estimates are difficult. I had heard possibly 20% (my guess that it is if any involvement with a church is counted).

High numbers of single men does not lead itself to a very docile society.

The Arab Muslims have had a similar situation( due to polygamy instead of abortion), and have had little probably getting these young men to take positions as suicide bombers.

There might be one more - environmentalism. Not the whacky “lets destroy multi-generational farms in California in favor of the Delta smelt” variety. But the kind that objects to blatant dumping of toxic waste in heavily-populated neighborhoods (which happens quite a bit there). Gorbachev tolerated home-grown anti-pollution movements in the 1980’s because (1) they were so popular, and (2) they gave the central government leverage over powerful local party bosses who opposed him. Then whoops they morphed into part of a large-scale anti-communist mindset that brought the Soviets down.

Combine this with Christianity and a growing middle class that’s sick of corruption and you might have the ingredients for a peaceful revolution that relegates Mao to the dung heap.

I saw a story... on Fox this morning I think... that said that China is facing a crashing fertility rate. Apparently their fertility rate is now down to only 1.7 children per woman.

It would be the irony of ironies if the world’s most populous state faces a fertility crash, and then of course a population crash.

If you’ve read Steyn’s “America Alone” you know that demographics are changing rapidly around the world. Europe is crashing, with respect to fertility. They have fertility rates around 1.4 or so throughout much of the European continent. I think he said that 2.1 is the key fertility rate merely to maintain a population... There’s a rate at which no society has ever recovered. I forget for the moment what it was, but I thought it was somewhere around 1.7

The irony of China facing a population crash is just too much for me to process. That’s gonna mess some stuff up.

China has LOTS of orphanages. I know of several families here in the USA who went there to adopt kids ( mostly girls from some reason ) and they all went to orphanages.

Well, we may have a squeaker escape with the global warming. Some are looking at a possible cosmic ray link between sunspot activity and global temperature variations. The more spots, the more the sun emits particles that drive the cosmic rays away from the earth, and vice versa. The cosmic rays that arrive at the earth (in the upper atmosphere) encourage clouds to form. The clouds shield the globe from normal sunshine, bouncing some back to outer space, and things get cooler.

The neat thing about that (it seems to me) that if we want to make it cooler ourselves, we might only need to shoot artificial cosmic rays (the nuclei of heavy atoms) at the skies. Global warming would not be a worry any more. Ice ages — global cooling — would remain an area of concern (as we wouldn’t yet be able to stop cosmic rays flooding in from outer space if the sun does not do that for us).

There’s going to be a conference on anthropogenic climate change in December in Copenhagen. Over a hundred countries will be there. The discussions should be interesting; by far not everybody is on board with our familiar AGW.

Interesting. Thanks!

Global warming is just an excuse of the watermelons to create a UN wealth transfer taxation scheme. They want to give the UN a tax base and they are using the West’s environmental damage as an excuse to establish it.

They are also wanting to tax all banking transactions or airline flights at the global level for the UN tax base. Obama wants to transfer our Nations economic control currently ongoing at the Fed to the IMF. The watermelons always did want to rule the globe and bring Soviet Utopia to everyone.

I have seen estimates as high as 15% (170 million!) from Christian leaders in China.

However, no one knows. The Communists want to know, so they can persecute them, but they would never tell the truth. The Christians are trying to hide, to stay alive and out of prison.

In any case, we already know the end of this story.

60-300 AD the Roman empire persecuted Christians. Then Christianity became the official religion.

1917-1992 the USSR persecuted Christianity. USSR fell and Christianity grew.

1948-2009 China persecutes Christianity. It grows from a small “foreign” religion to an enormous domestic religion.
