BANGKOK — There are plenty of needy countries at the U.N. climate talks in Bangkok that make the case they need financial assistance to adapt to the impacts of global warming. Then there are the Saudis.
Saudi Arabia has led a quiet campaign during these and other negotiations — demanding behind closed doors that oil-producing nations get special financial assistance if a new climate pact calls for substantial reductions in the use of fossil fuels.

I believe the House of Saud has even more pull in DC than the Israeli lobby does. I would not be shocked at all to see a bailout for the Saudis, masquaraded as something. Hell, we already gave taxpayer money to foreign banks to bail them out. Nothing surprises me anymore.
If their playboy princes and sheiks could lay off throwing away the nation's wealth on the French Riviera, they could build a permanent fund that would spin off enough interest and dividends to keep their descendants in well-fed prosperity until the end of time.

AQ hates the Saudi royal family for allowing us to build bases on their holy lands as well as for “choosing” the US military to defend them against Iraq in 1990/91 instead of the Mujahadeen.
