NAACP spearheads prison vote drive in Maine

The NAACP is registering voters at prisons in Maine, one of just two states that allow all inmates to vote while behind bars, in what is apparently the nation's first such statewide drive. Though prison inmates tend to skew to the Democratic side, the drive isn't about furthering any political agenda, said Rachel Talbot Ross, president of the Portland chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. "It's about establishing strong voter patterns and becoming a fully functioning person to re-enter society," Ross said. "It's part of the rehabilitation and re-entry process."

The NAACP is wrapping up its effort in Maine prisons this week. After next June's primary election, the organization plans to lead another drive at all 15 county jails, as well as state prisons.

It's not focusing just on black inmates.

This is the National President of the NAACP, Benjamin Todd Jealous, former president of the Rosenberg Foundation and director of the U.S. Human Rights Program at Amnesty International. The article also states that- "The Maine State Prison's NAACP chapter — the only one of its kind in New England — has 70 members, many of them white, including the branch president." And I just find that interesting. When it comes to destroying the country, being leeches and spreading communism- the NAACP allows a little "diversity".

“Though prison inmates tend to skew to the Democratic side...”

Perhaps inmates are merely the convicted branch of the democrat base? Fertile recruiting ground for Obama’s administration?

Given that Maine is less than 1% black I goota say whoever was sent there by the NAACP to do a voter registration drive must have screwed up something real bad.

For clarification...I was saying the headline was racist. You know...NAACP spearheads = black people with spears? As in stereotyping?

As for the article, I can't comment because I am left speechless that the NAACP has finally included whites in their ranks. Their intentions however, do not seem to be honorable.

I live in Maine.

Most people could care less.

Blacks represent less than 5% of population (15% of prison pop.)

The other members ar most likely ‘multi-racial’
