What if Polanski Were a Republican Senator ?
Commentary ^ | October 07, 2009 | JONATHAN TOBIN

Posted on 10/07/2009 6:31:28 PM PDT by RobinMasters

In today’s New York Times arts section, film industry correspondent Brooks Barnes analyzes Hollywood’s attitude to fugitive sex predator/Oscar-winning director Roman Polanski.

Most prominent artists have lined up behind the push to let the famed director off the hook for having drugged and raped a 13-year-old girl over 30 years ago. Polanski fled the country to avoid sentencing after he plead guilty to the lesser charge of unlawful sex with a minor and has since lived in a cushy exile in Europe. After his recent arrest, Polanski is currently sitting in a Swiss jail awaiting possible extradition to the United States.

The fact that Harvey Weinstein, David Lynch, Martin Scorsese, and Woody Allen (at least the latter is no hypocrite given his own past actions) are calling Polanski’s arrest an outrage shows how disconnected the film industry is from the rest of the country when it comes to morality. However, according to Barnes, Hollywood’s main problem with Polanski is that few of his films have made money recently. “Hollywood has most assuredly become a chillier place for Mr. Polanski over the last decade,” Barnes reports. “It’s a judgment that this guy is no longer readily commercial.”

I am not making any excuses for the double standard that democrats live by but I think I understand (and in all actuality I don't think it qualifies as a double standard). We (conservatives) live by certain principles, and when we discover that one of us breaks those principles we then call that persona hypocrite. Democrats stand for nothing, they have no principles so when they take part in some aberrant, deviant behavior like rape a child, take gay lovers or a mistress there is nothing to call them out on, they... stand... for... nothing. They are empty shells. We hold ourselves and other conservatives to a higher standard because we are just that, the higher standard. Opinions please....like I need to ask for them here LOL.

If Polanski were a Republican.....he’d have been extricated from Europe 2 weeks ago, brought here, and awaiting trial...the media would have already tried him and found him guilty! Oh, and other Republicans would have been calling for his jailing, pronto!

With that history the Republicans would not accept him as a GOP candidate for dogcatcher.

Next question?

And if Polanski had been a Republican senator, we would also have seen lots of documentary type segments in the MSM about the dangers of sexual assault, the use of date rape drugs, and child molestation. We would be told that these are all pandemic in our society. These are all serious issues, true enough. It’s just that the MSM will not use the arrest of Polanksi to talk about them. They would use the issues if a Republican senator was involved.

Hey!!

That’s exactly what I asked (to myself) while driving and the story broke that the Hollywhacks were giving him a “pardon.”

You can be damn sure that if the story involved someone like Newt Gingrich rather than a media darling, they would be demanding his testicles on a paper plate.

Alison Arngrim, an actress who is best known for her work in ‘Little House on the Prairie’ and who has spoken publicly in the past about having been sexually molested as a child. “If Roman Polanski were a Catholic priest or a Republican senator, would these people feel the same way?”

Not likely.

Hollywood is "rat" - but without humor. Actors think they're standing behind the "cool" fence, but they're lowlifes backing a pedophile.

What if Polanski Were a Republican Senator ?

Sorry. That question's not been approved for asking by the Agenda Czar.

When Polanski gets back he’ll end up either as Entertainment Czar and an Amabassador. He certainly has the same qualifications of all the other Obama appointees.

What If Polanski Were a Republican Senator?

Hard to see how could be nominated as a GOP candidate, never mind elected as a GOP Senator, with that kind of criminal record. But if he were somehow a GOP Senator, he'd have been forced to resign by now.

.

He deserves new charges for fleeing the country after pleading down to a lesser charge

I wonder how little Polaski will make new friends in prison after the rape-rape (Whoopee Goldberg) of a young girl

Flight and living in luxury abroad for 30 years means he should be turned loose according to Hollywood

I clearly defines who they are and what they too have done or will do

Those who defend rape of a 13yr old girl are without morals.

Hollywood:

Polanski is our friend, and we think he’s cool. He is an Artist, which means he can rape a 13-year-old and we will treat it as though he double dipped a chip in the onion dip. Especially since it was years ago, so let’s just all forget it.

But if a Republican Senator did such a thing, we would consider him a filthy, disgusting pedophile. We hold Republicans up to high moral standards because they are not cool. We would want him dead, revived, and killed again for his horrific crime and we would never stop talking about it for 100 years.
