CNN is receiving criticism, of many different kinds from many different places, for a segment Monday on "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer." The segment "fact-checked" a Saturday Night Live sketch.
The sketch, which has been deemed the show's first viral hit of the season, cataloged Pres. Obama's supposed lack of accomplishments.
The Wall Street Journal's James Taranto called the idea "a bizarre exercise." The Baltimore Sun's David Zurawik wrote, "Fact checking a comedy sketch -- I will say no more." FNC's Greg Gutfeld showed the clip on Red Eye and joked, "Seriously, reviewing an 'SNL' skit for accuracy is like reviewing McDonald's for their wine list."
But NYMag's Daily Intel points out, "political satire isn't legitimate if it's not based in truth." CNN's own GOP strategist Ed Rollins writes, "Humor with some truth in it is always dangerous. Make no mistake, a drumbeat of belittlement can damage a president."

Or a vice presidential candidate...didn't seem to be much of a concern then.
I got a huge laugh out of the PLM hack that said the skit wasn’t funny because there was absolutely no truth to it.
Wow, political satire has been going on for eons and suddenly it now has to be fact checked? Where has CNN been all these years?
I would hope that CNN has earned their very own SNL skit!
Comedy sketches do not need to be fact checked. They are after all comedy and with SNL satirical comedy at that. That is the nature of satire albeit in this case ithe satire turned out to be the truth.
CNN is a pathetic excuse for a news organization. I wouldn’t even call then a news organization. Just a tool. A liberal tool.
Mmmm, wonder what President Bush has to say about that? If theOne can't take the heat, he'd better get out of the kitchen.
Leave it to CNN to fact check a skit critical of Obama. I don’t recall any on Bush skits.
Considering that Wolf Blitzer himself is a complete and total idiot who is devoid of little if any book smarts, as he showed on his recent appearance on Jeopardy, he has no business “fact-checking” anybody.
I can't think of better material for a satirical skit than the CNN Fact-check!
ROFLPIMP!
And everyone was so concerned about this during the Bush administration that they checked to see if it was true that at family parties, the President sometimes curled up like a kitten in the corner and batted a ball of yarn around between his feet. Because that was an actual sketch on SNL with Will Ferrell portraying the Pres.

If anyone on SNL reads FR, here is a great idea for a skit: The "President" makes a speech, and in the corner is Wolfie Blitzer trying to fact check it. Under Wolfie is a running "score" that resembles his Jeopardy score, showing how off his fact checking is. Ending up, of course, thousands of dollars in the minus.

Go to the link. It had me LOL.
Wolf Blitzer? That’s the guy that was embedded with Saddam in the First Gulf War, right?
I like Bush, but those skits with Farrell playing Bush were pretty darn funny. The actor that played BO was terrible and didn’t remotely sound like BO. I didn’t think the skit was very funny, but I was glad they did it.
Considering the skits about Bush, Cheney and oh let’s not forget what was done to Palin? If CNN wants to fact check comedy sketches and people want to proclaim how they can damage a political candidate than maybe they should start with apologies to every Republican and conservative that has ever lived. Until they are wiling to do that perhaps they should stop being so thin skinned about ONE tame skit.
It is clear Onummer cannot take ANY KIND of CRITICISM even if it is minor let along true. Obummer has a huge ego and it needs constant feeding and massaging. Obummer’s skin may be black but it’s also very very thin.
Yeah, we all remember CNN’s ruthless fact-checking of the Tina Fey sketches, don’t we?
Yeah, they had to give him a mulligan so he could play in Final Jeopardy.
I wasn’t expecting much when I saw he was one of the contestants but he surpassed all my expectations! :-)
They are IDIOTS. Fact checking Obummer would make a LOT more sense, eh?
.........LMAO!
There was another Episode where Wiley Coyote claims to be a “super genius”, I think Blitzer should fact check this claim also. But then again compared to your Jeopardy performance Wolf, Wiley Coyote does seem like a “super genius’.
We have yet to discover any evidence that a creature described as a Land-Shark actually exists. It is our position that this creature does not exist. #CNNfactcheck
Geez CNN,
Before you start brainwashing people you may want to get some viewers first.
CNN is just the playground bully who is crying about the fact that somebody hit back.
The left has their worldview disrupted again.
Essentially CNN wants to label all oposition to Obama as “crimethink”.
The difference is this time the writters at SNL will get phone callks to “knock it off”, SNL will appologize and never do it again. cowards.
They would be more likely to contribute material for Bush skits.
The irony in this story is hilarious. How dumb can CNN be?
Greg Gutman on RED EYE had a good time with it last night.
RE: “Greg Gutman on RED EYE had a good time with it last night.”

I heard on radio today that RED EYE on Fox has three times the audience than does CNN in the same time slot. That time slot? THREE A.M. in NY!!!!
That was my impression. That's also why I occasionally listen to NPR or the BBC - their 'serious' reporting is some of the best comedy on the air.
Fact checking a spoof. What idiots.
Red Eye at 3AM has three times the audience of CNN at 8PM - prime time! That's what's so amazing.
Greg Gutfeld
“But NYMag’s Daily Intel points out, ‘political satire isn’t legitimate if it’s not based in truth.’”
Weak!
That's why I post on so many high-activity blogs:
(1) I want to damage the thug in our White House to reduce his effectiveness as he attempts to destroy my country.
(2) Besides that, Obama's ego-ability mismatch makes it so easy to belittle him!
The American people are just completely fed up with being lied to and being treated like children by the Obummer administration and the American people are mad as hell and they are not gonna take it anymore.
“I like Bush, but those skits with Farrell playing Bush were pretty darn funny. The actor that played BO was terrible and didnt remotely sound like BO”
And Farrell did? However much you like that kind of thing, Farrell’s impression was nowhere near accurate. It was more of an anti-comedy thing, whereby the impersonator is saying, “Look at me, I’m funny because I’m not even trying.”
Much like Chevy Chase’s Ford, Farrell zoomed in on one aspect. In Ford’s case it was clumsiness, in Bush’s case stupity/childishness. So long as you accept the legitimacy of the slim characterization, the sketch can be fun. I advise them to focus in on some aspect of Obama’s personality. And not his coolness, which has been a target in the past. It has to be a flaw. I prefer multi-plane attacks, as they launched on Bush I. But if all we can get is the equivalent of Clinton=lecher or Dole=old, I’ll take it.
Have you seen CNN’s latest singing for Obama’s Health Care? It’s on the top right of Drudge right now. Here is the link.
I appreciate their desire for accuracy and eagerly await their next report which factchecks the latest Harry Potter movie.
Proof that liberals are an evolutionary failure when it comes to the development of a sense of humor.
Na!! they just drank to much obama kool-aid
The sad thing is that Fred Armisen did a better job with the voice last season. He wasn't even trying this season.

I’m Chevy Chase and you’re not.

Oh, I missed that part of it — really IS amazing then! I came upon Red Eye just by chance — still awake after watching Beck which is another show I started watching recently. He’s growing on me.............
