The Obamas taste in art is as broad as abstract canvases by Josef Albers, American Indian scenes by George Catlin and paintings by little-known figures like Alma Thomas, the African-American Expressionist painter. Works by those artists were among some 45 pieces that the first couple borrowed from several Washington museums to decorate their private White House residence and the West and East Wings, the White House press office announced on Tuesday.

TOPICS: News/Current Events
KEYWORDS: art; modern; obama; white
More details including a slide show of the crap art now in the White House. Of course the NY Slimes and the people inteeviewed are fawning over the Obamas for their taste in art as opposed to use Philistines who like our Renoirs, Rapheals and other artistis who actually were talented.

I think the art in the Oval Office is highly appropriate.

I couldn’t help noticing that the only work of art that was not modern, was a portrait of Truman. Obama keeps trying to tell us who he is, we are not getting the message.

Great, crap art for a crappy administration.

Well, I think it is a bit harsh to condemn most of those pictures. I followed the link. Most of them appear to be made by their daughters.
I have many similar ones on my refrigerator that my elementary school children made in art class.
Same skill level.

Is this experiment with bringing "art" into the White House going to go as well as when, in the very first week, they turned the Presidential news conference into a piano bar by playing light ragtime and jazz standards instead of Hail toe the Chief?
I'll never forget that. They should've served cocktails.

I thought you were making a joke with a graphic someone made up. Oh my, it does fit him to a T.
We can use this for the next 3 years.

I like this one:

However, it is actually a blatant knock-off (rotated 90 degrees and some colors changed) of this wonderful Matisse collage:

If the press is so enamoured with Michelle why does every picture we see have her with her mouth so screwed up.
To: C19fan
Well, I’d approve of about 3 out of 12 in the Slide Show: numbers
6 and 7 (Caitlin, sp?, western art) and the Truman portrait (heck,
a guy that told the railroad union where to stick it!).
If eyes are “the window to the soul”, so is the art a person CHOOSES
for the adornment of their residence.
And this collection tells you PLENTY about the political messiah
now residing at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C.
I love the one “Maybe...no; Maybe...yes” artwork.
I’m sure that gives great assurances to our volunteer military doing
the heavy lifting in Afghanistan (/bitter SARC)

I have a theory. The media prints pictures of her with facial expressions like a monkey, hoping that right wingers comment on it, thus proving we are racists.
