HSUS Maps Agenda for the President
Indiana Council for Animal Welfare ^ | August 07, 2009 | JOHN YATES

Posted on 10/07/2009 8:14:24 AM PDT by brytlea

WASHINGTON - The Humane Society of the United States is asking President Barack Obama and Congress to require everyone who raises dogs and cats to be regulated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, documents show. HSUS also is asking for the creation of an animal protection division within the U.S. Department of Justice that is "similar to the Civil Rights Division, to ensure strong enforcement of federal animal protection laws," thus granting animals rights similar to humans. HSUS also calls for a new position of animal protection liaison in the White House.

I'm sorry, I know this is from August, but I did a search and didn't see that it had been posted. A topic dear to my heart as a purebred dog hobbyist.

Sadly, I know people who think exactly that. The public is woefully uninformed, I guess we shouldn’t be surprised.

Kinda scary, another new position. Probably they will get Ingrid Newkirk to fill that position....

These people have nothing better to do? With our economy the way it is, two wars going on and possibly a third, people out of work and they are worried about animals rights?

They see an opening for things they have been trying to get passed for years, and yes, you better believe they are going for it.

Yeah, that always seems odd to me. Most of the people who propose animal rights also propose preborn humans have none.

It is sad. I just read something from today that OH is getting to be a good state for puppy mills. What a load. A mill tried to get into the county I live in, so sorry about your luck but no way.

HUGE difference between breeders and mills.

I trust the people that live there to make the decision, not the govt.

And of course, most of the legislation these groups have pushed (and sadly passed) favor puppy mills, since they penalize the small private breeder who cannot afford to pay the breeder licenses etc. But of course, we all know it’s not about puppy mills. Wish more people would get a clue.

I know. What a joke.

Private breeders are great. I would not get a pure bread from a Pet place or a flea market. Makes me so mad!!!!!

Unfortunately, in our zeal to get rid of really bad places, we have put ourselves in the crosshairs. I think PETA and HSUS had that in mind all along, but I only think it’s been recently that most hobby breeders got a clue. I fear it’s really too late tho, with legislation successfully passed all over the country. Interestingly, most people I talk to here in Palm Beach County don’t even know there is a breeder license required now to breed a dog or cat.
