German raids target 'violent Islamic extremists'

BERLIN, Germany (CNN) -- German police on Wednesday conducted a "city-wide search" in Berlin, targeting "potentially violent Islamic extremists," a police spokeswoman told CNN.

While there is no "concrete" evidence of any attack plot, the raid is targeting people suspected of being involved in "jihadi training," according to the spokeswoman.

The Berlin raid began shortly after 6 a.m. (midnight ET) and was still ongoing by midday, she said.

Germany's capital has been on high alert after al Qaeda and the Taliban released threatening videos before Germany's recent national elections. The videos warned voters not to vote for leaders who want to keep the country's troops in Afghanistan.

Are they just guessing? Or do they have credible intel on whom to roust? Oh, goodness! They’ve been spying on the little darlings? You mean Europeans have their own Patriot Act, those enlightened Euros think it’s OK to spy on their “own” in order to stay safe? Say it ain’t so.

Let’s see if I’ve got this straight: just as the US is charging headlong into socialism, Europe is trending right; just as the US is renouncing surveillance on badass perpetrators, Europe is seeing the wisdom of it? What is wrong with this picture?

Like I said in previous posts... the Germans will only be pushed so far. They may seem on the surface like pacifist pansies, but their DNA is still German, and they don’t like knuckledragging cavemen in their midst.

Good for Germany...we need to do the same thing here in the US...vigilance is always a good thing, as long as the authorities concentrate on national security and don’t use it to spy on law abiding citizens.

The next German election will be key. If they elect pro-Islamic socialists, the native Germans are doomed.

It's nice to see Europe 'wake up' and trend right. We will hopefully follow suit, like after the Carter years came the relief of the Reagan years. I keep telling myself it's not a headlong charge into socialism, there is resistance. I like to think that, but it seems everyday there is new reason to see it as a full on rush to socialism.
