FORT LAUDERDALE - The Broward General Medical Center is urging patients to get tested for Hepatitis C, Hepatitis B and the HIV virus after it was revealed that a nurse re-used supplies when administering IV fluids during stress tests. (Snip) 1,800 patients treated by the nurse may have been exposed to HIV and hepatitis (/snip)
The nurse, identified as Qui Lan, was suspended pending the outcome of a full investigation. Lan, who is out of the country, has resigned and been reported to the Florida Board of Nursing. Ft. Lauderdale police have said no charges will be filed against Lan until a person comes forward and can prove they were harmed by Lan's actions.

Not surprised. Broward General is a hellhole.
1800 patients may have been exposed.
That is one F’d up county.
WTF?
Being exposed against your will to another person's bodily fluids is generally considered assault.
If you don't believe me, spit on a Fort Lauderdale policeman.
Police are more important than us proles apparently...
Too many foreigners here, who don’t like us...
The nurse is conveniently out of the country. I doubt she’s in a hurry to get back to south Florida.
Also, if anyone gets HIV, this POS should do time for negligent manslaughter.
I wouldn't want to contaminate my spit.
Wonder where she went to nursing school? This reminds me of an incident I witnessed at Whole Foods. I was browsing the salad bar when I saw a person, who was speaking Mandarin to a younger person, go over to the little containers of raisins and croutons and reach in and grab some with her bare hands and put them on her salad. Despite the face that each container had a serving spoon. Gross. I realize this is a cultural thing, but it was still gross. I waited until they left and told the manager, who immediately snatched up the containers and disappeared into the kitchen. Yuck
Oooooooh, sound like Number 10 nurse loving long time with Papazan tubing full of nook maum. Beau-coup dinky dow nurse, number 10!
The real story may be why no one noticed that not enough saline was being billed . . . or was it????
This is not nearly as troubling as the nurse who used a chair to reach the hook on my IV pole.
When I asked her why she didn't adjust the pole, she said "it goes up but it doesn't come down"!!
So I showed her the foot pedal that lowered the pole.
This would be an unintended side effect of socialized medicine. Nurse practitioners would be so pressed to save money that many would re-use syringe needles.
ha ha, I worked there once upon a time. You’re right.
I’m wondering why an anonymous call to the hospital is being reported as how this came to light. When I was there, nurses were writing up other nurses all the time. Another nurse who is on the ball may have become frustrated with hospital administrators keeping this under the rug.
Someone must have threatened to contact the media unless action was taken.
Schools/hospitals ect all went south about 10 yrs ago IMO.
The proffessionals have all retired and being replaced with it will do workers and the admins are all focused on soley on profits and meeting budgets instead of the clients they provide services for.
JMO
There was a nurse assigned to me and another patient just after our invasive surgeries on the night shift and we were so medicated post op that we were laughing at her antics of crawling around on the floor being silly.
Not so funny in hindsight.
Spent allot of my sons growing up years in Childrens Hospitals and now that he is an adult I am so glad I learned what I did from the docs/nurses back in the day as it keeps us far far away from any medical institution for his adult health care needs.
Not in this day and age. Any institutional type business is like IMO the old mental institutes were the disabled were once cast away out of society.
Rather live free and in peace to my last breath despite physical limitations then give up my rights to any medical facility.
Unless it is a trauma ie...car accident, bullet wound (highly unlikely cept for a careless hunter in our area)
No charges against someone who may have infected 1800 innocent people? But a couple of states are investigating Hannah and James for exposing ACORN corruption. Why does my head hurt?
Wow...I don’t know if I would’ve known *that*! Our IV poles adjust by turning a knob on the pole. I’ve never seen one that adjusted with a foot pedal!
I’m sure that nurse felt very foolish.
One motive might be to resell unused supplies - but saline is bulky and cheap - you’re not smuggling out 10 1L bags of saline under your coat every day.
Maybe just false economy.
Hiring foreign nurses - maybe just another false economy.
That is what I was thinking. There was probably a bonus plan for cost saving measures and someone told.
NO 1,800 MULTIPLIED BY EVERYONE THEY CAME INTO CONTACT WITH.
Yuck is right. Cultural I know, but it was still gross to see. Not to mention the boy we saw in split pants peeing on Tienanmen Square. And I do mean, ON the Square.
Some of the stories remind me of a thread where someone had a shocker seeing a Japanese woman squat and take a dump on the sidewalk.
Ugh.
Even if there are not public toilets, couldn’t one use the grass and whip out a convenient plastic bag?
Then again, where else but here would a group of Tea Party protester types at the Nations Capitol use the trash cans, even bringing spare trash bags to leave the Mall as clean or cleaner than when they arrived.
