Apple has left the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the fourth company to end its membership over the business groups climate change stance.
A fifth company, Nike, quit the Chambers board of directors but remains members of the group.
We would prefer that the Chamber take a more progressive stance on this critical issue and play a constructive role in addressing the climate crisis, Apple Vice President for Worldwide Government Affairs Catherine Novelli wrote.
Apple recently announced its own efforts to reduce the carbon footprints of its products.
For those companies who cannot or will not do the same, Apple supports regulating greenhouse gas emissions, and it is frustrating to find the Chamber at odds with us in this effort, Novelli wrote.
Apples resignation from the Chamber is effective immediately.
Previously, PG&E, PNM Resources and Exelon resigned from the Chamber due to disagreement of climate legislation.
The Chamber has said it supports efforts to combat global warming but that the bill passed by the House would hurt the economy. It also opposes the EPA regulating carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.
We believe that Congress should set climate change policy through legislation, rather than having the EPA apply existing environmental statutes that were not created to regulate greenhouse gas emissions, Donohue said in a statement last week.
I guess would be happy if they outlawed the production of circuit boards?
lets boycott Apple for being progressive then.
Another reason not to buy and Apple....

Let them go. Why should all companies suffer so a few “greens” can benefit?
And, while I’m at it....maybe one reason that they are concerned about GHGs is that they have their iPhones made in Taiwan/China/Mexico....[I had to replace a touch pad on my iPhone and noticed that one of these, forget where, was where it was made]
I guess they allow their liberalism to do their thinking for them.I guess they farm it out.
In hind sight....making the switch to Ubuntu was brilliant.
I’m a PC and Steve Jobs can kiss my Conservative ass.
No NGO should get tax money.
That includes the chamber of commerce that uses hotel tax.

Former Huntsville-Walker County Chamber of Commerce president and CEO Dee Everett was magistrated Monday on four second-degree felony indictments.
Everett was magistrated by Walker County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Janie Farris and released on $7,500 personal recognizance bond on each of the four charges.
A holdover Walker County grand jury from the January term returned the indictments Friday.
“We believe that Congress should set climate change policy through legislation...”
Ah geez.
Are people really this gullible?? Really?
I have not forgiven them for switching to Intel.
Looks like the USCOC insulted Apple’s religious beliefs.
Thanks for the reminder Apple Vice President for Worldwide Government Affairs Catherine Novelli.
But forget about the iPhone and Macbook I was thinking of buying.
LOL!
Do non-Intel-generated pixels look better?
That's business. Do you think Microsoft cares what MSNBC says? If anything, considering the abysmal ratings MSNBC gets, Microsoft should want to get the "MS" out that network's name.
‘We would prefer that the Chamber take a more progressive stance on this critical issue and play a constructive role in addressing the climate crisis, Apple Vice President for Worldwide Government Affairs Catherine Novelli wrote.’
I’d prefer that Apple (and I’m an Apple product fan) and Ms. Novelli learn the facts about the “climate crisis” - there is none.
Time to get an iClue.
Well, it's not like I ever seriously considered buying a Mac but that about tears it for me forever.
A progressive stance means a stance favored by left wing ideologues.
Perhaps their support of these regulations (that they already meet and exceed) is purely for their own PROFIT motives. ;-) Either way, I don't support these stupid regulations and my only concern when dealing with a computer company is if they can provide me with the best computer, for me.
We believe that Congress should set climate change policy through legislation...
Why not, government today believes they are God.
Hypocrites. It’s easy to go green when you make computer equipment or software. It’s a natural evolution of the technology (smaller, faster, less power). But try doing that with businesses that make computers possible: steel, metals, silicon, chemical. The laws of nature demand X amount of energy to produce Y amount of product. You can whine all you want, but that is the reality. And Nike? The SLAVE LABOR shoemaker? They can just STFU.
And this from a MAC user since 1984
Apple did NOT “swallow the AGW hoax”. They, and the others, have realized that there is big money to be made in this scam.

Algor is on the Apple board of directors. Why would this be a surprise?
They didn’t, but about a couples of years ago some group determined them very uncaring about global warming. I am guessing that this is just part of the atonement Apple is having to make.
Just mark these companies as stupid. I was thinking of buying a couple of Apple computers; but not now.
It’s also easy to appear clean when all your ipods and iphones are made in China. Somehow I doubt the environment around their plants there is so pristine.
It’s called the US Chamber of Commerce - not the Globalist Chamber of Commerce. Let the globalists go! They have enough influence and power. We need an organization representing US businesses.
We need an organization representing US citizens. The US chamber supports amnesty for illegals.
Really? You can’t believe that the company with Al Gore on their board would buy into AGW? Really?
So you support those guys? Whatever.
Hehehe ... and Mr. Liberal, Bill Gates. Let’s boycott Microsoft and Apple!
Can Bill Gates [Mr. Liberal] kiss your ass too?
Buy a Bill Gates product instead. He is the model of Conservatism.
You're looking at it from the wrong perspective. All companies, including the one I work for, are under a lot of pressure to "go green". If you go back and reread the full comment, they are preferring that Congress set climate change policy instead of via unelected bureaucrats in the EPA. That's sensible.
The fact that we here think there should be none at all, doesn't change the principle. If it's done, it should be done by congress where we at least have a right to protest and let our voices be heard.
Not that I'm defending green politics or Apple...
The Chamber is right on this one.
You're not in the business, I take it? Dead computers, routers, any electronics with PC boards actually are toxic waste, especially any batteries.
What I find ironic is that an increasing amount of pollution in California is borne by the jet stream coming from Taiwan and China from where much of our manufacturing has been relocated.
Indeed. The big money will be made in the nascent carbon trading derivatives market and the only really big money will be made by the Algores and other insiders. The other players will be left with a financial headache.
And support an O/S developed in part by FReepers like me - Linux. Deal.
They just lost me . I was seriously thinking of making the switch from PC to Mac but not now . Jobs and Algore can KMA .
The Chamber is actually doing something good? I AM SHOCKED- Maybe they’ve finally learned their lesson with RINOism, and corporatism..wouldn’t put it past them.
Boycott ‘em all you want. Every OS maker is on the same shark.
Although, Mark Shuttleworth (Canonical-Ubuntu) doesn’t make hardware. hehe
climate change is a scam. If Apple supports a “more progressive” stance regarding so-called climate change, they can continue to pound sand.
Okay, I give up! Apple & Nike, given their politics, I can understand; Excelon, with CO^2-freenukes & the competitive advantage that would give them, I can understand; but WTF is motivating PG&E and PNM?!?
