House liberals float bill to bar 'surge' of troops for Afghanistan war

Nearly two dozen House liberals have signed onto a bill introduced this past week that would prohibit an increase of troops in Afghanistan.

A bill introduced by Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) on Thursday would bar funding to increase the troop level in Afghanistan beyond its current level.

Lee and 21 lawmakers -- largely from the liberal Congressional Progressive Caucus -- introduced the bill, H.R. 3699 on Thursday.

The legislation comes as President Barack Obama and leaders in Congress weigh a request from Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the commander of troops in Afghanistan, for as many as 40,000 new troops to bolster the eight-year-long military engagement in the region.

It is as if they were all born yesterday. There is no history, there are no lessons learned, 9/11 never happened. They are living in an information vacuum, and so can be said, fairly, to suck.

This can provide cover for Obama to cut and run in Afghanistan.

As soon as nancy tells bammy what to do he will do it. He is such a leader. Somebody needs to tell McCrystal to talk to nancy not the hand puppet.

I listened to an NPR interview (the “Fresh Air” program) with Ahmed Rashid, a Pakistani journalist who has written about that area of the world for decades. (He wrote a best-selling book called “Taliban.”) In the interview, he said that, although he strongly opposed the U.S. war in Iraq, he wants the U.S. to put more troops on the ground in Afghanistan and do it soon. We need troops on the ground in order to gain the cooperation of the people. If we do not, the Afghanis will be forced to cooperate with the Taliban even if we have a bombing campaign. If the Taliban gains the upper hand in Afghanistan, they will see it as a great victory and be encouraged in other countries in which they are active. Mr. Rashid said that if the U.S. acts soon, the situation could be turned around.

“House liberals float bill to bar ‘surge’ of troops for Afghanistan war “

The blood of our men and women in Afghanistan be on these Congress men and women.

Either support them by enabling them to WIN (that’s what they want to do and probably will do if we let them) or admit defeat and bring them home.

As it’s been pointed out in recent days, if we lose Afghanistan there’s nothing standing in the way of the Taliban taking back Kabul and seriously ramping up efforts to sack Karahi.

This can provide cover for Obama to cut and run in Afghanistan.

That's exactly what it will do.

Looking for support from the right, from those would would not put any more of our military in harms’ way under Obama ROE? They might get some but that would be a mistake.

So we can see them re-elected by 65% or more margins... Maybe even 85% like Seattle's Jim McDermott is consistently re-elected by.

The CPC won't go away, they're nakedly brazen in their liberalism because they come from gerrymandered districts that are completely safe.
