Those who read the New York Times's coverage of the unsuccessful results of Barack and Michelle Obama's attempt to seal the 2016 Summer Olympics bid for Chicago on Friday afternoon ('For Obama, an Unsuccessful Campaign") might want to read it again.
If it doesn't seem the same, it's because it isn't.
Blogger Weasel Zippers (HT Hot Air Headlines via Instapundit) caught the Times committing a major scrub of the story. But it's really worse than that.
An excerpt of the item's first five paragraphs posted at FreeRepublic at 4:44 Eastern Time on October 2 shows that the article was apparently originally published under the same title with Peter Baker's byline Friday sometime Friday afternoon.
NYT: For Obama, An Unsuccessful Campaign ["He Could Not Even Muster The Silver Or Bronze"]
Admin Moderator,
Please change this to excerpt, read more. I must have missed checking the excerpt box. Thanks.
There. Fixed it.
It includes a side-by-side comparison of the changes using Free Republic post as the original.
The NYT folks were merely pliant and obedient servants.
.
I suspect a call directly from Zero to Pinch caused the changes.
I think the word horatory is also applicable to the NYT as well as the Obamas’ spiel in Copenhagen.
The whole difference of tone of the article has been scrubbed to protect the ‘image’ which in fact it a phantom that doesn’t even exist.
The lies and corruption coming out of this White House get more obvious every day. Just like their attempt to not hear nearly 2M people that came to his doorstep and said YOU WILL HEAR ME has been brushed off like it never happened.
Paybacks are going to be hell...and I’m begining to wonder how long the restraint of the people is going to last the more we have to watch this puke operate.
As the one who first posted this article in Free Republic, I am stunned and appalled. If there was ever a doubt of the NYT being part of the Obama-run state media, this is proof positive.
I wish Rush, Beck, Hannity will expose this to the fullest. Please request moderator to post this as part of the sidebar. The First Amendment’s Freedom of the Press being destroyed by the Press.
Probably just a misread of the first article.
Who are you going to believe? The NY Times or your lying eyes?

I see you posted the original article. Good job! It’s probably the only place it exists after Pinch scrubbed it.
Why would any journalist put themselves in the position of making people wonder if they bow to the wishes of the politically powerful?
The answer may be that journalism, once thought to be at least lurking occasionally in its Manhattan hallways, is officially dead at the New York Times.
Is anyone really surprised by disgraceful behavior at the NY Times? Yet the left blames its demise on “advertising revenue declines.”
Good work.
Oh, nice work, Freedom Fighters. At this rate, the ‘shots heard round the world’ should be coming pretty soon.
From the original:
“After racking up legislative and policy successes in the early months of his presidency. . . .”
Come again? You mean the stimulus package that has yet to unleash its full devastating effect? It may be a victory in the sense that he was able to ram it through, but it’s hardly a “success.”
This should be sent to Rush. I don’t have the technical skill set for that, but I know all the rest of you do.
There was an rticle in some publication saying that if we lose the Olympics its a one-day story and if we win it will be a 6-year “triumph” politically.
It’s Orwell’s memory hole. Right there across from the bus terminal. Classy.
Every one of us who attended the demonstration saw one or more helecopters flying over the crowd in what's probably the most locked down airspace in the world. All of them had to be either govenment owned and operated or chartered by powerful DemonRats with the clout to get the necessary permits. Nevertheles, not a single areial picture taken from any of those choppers has ever been published. Looks to me like the DemonRats saw them, realized the crowd was about 1,800,000, making it history's largest at a DC demonstration, including the Illegal Alien's inauguration, and memory holed all of the pics.
Wonder if the same folks who told a Chicago paper to not run a follow-up story about Chicagoans not wanting the Olympics also had a chat with the Slimes - as in, nice paper you have here; it't be a shame if something were to happen to it.
Wow, I didn't know about that. I wonder if a FOIA request could be made.
I recall a post about military satellite images being used to determine the size of the 0's inauguration crowd - seems their ought to also be satellite images of the 9/12 crowd.
Those pics might have a negative affect on the ‘image’ you see. If they were private, they were only there to get pics of a small crowd so they could howl and denigrate the effort.
Can you imagine what a shock when they realized what was happening? And the reality of dissatisfaction of the people?
As usual their attitude is to deny reality, evade the consequences, because of one or two things. They have every confidence that the 2010 elections can be rigged in their favor...or they think that everyone will eventually wear down and settle down and accept the communist takeover rather than fight it.
But they are taking a foolish gamble. I think if they shove through the public option and then cap ‘n trade, it might just be the last straw! Things are going to heat up fast and we’re not in the mood to take prisoners, lol :)
What a fashion sense the guy has.
As in poor, crappy, weird ...
That’s how the power people dress in NYC ?????
Sheeeesh
I agree.
What can we do about it?
Wow. Thanks for posting.
And Steelfish for posting the original Slimes article.
I certainly wasn't stunned or appalled.
I must be just numb to all this now.....
Even though...I still think the MEDIA is THE most dangerous entity in the U.S.A.
FRegards,
I LOVE it when these fools get caught.
Dear NYT Ombudsman,
What can you tell us about this scrub?
This is a great catch. Pretty transparent coercion.
I have to think there is a major copyright “fair use” exception lurking in there. Under the old paradigm, the first print edition would serve as the proof that the story was altered, which is news in itself regardless of the content. However, under electronic publishing there usually is no older version of the story should the publisher take it down. Think about how easy it is to erase the file vs go out and round up all the newspaper copies. True, some stuff is captured fairly quickly by Google, the wayback machine, etc., but that is not always the case and there is nothing saying they will make that content available. Therefore, web sites like FreeRepublic that post and comment on the news are actually performing an important public service under the electronic model by capturing “before” versions and reporting on the effort of some news sources to obscure the record.
This reminds me of the book “Animal Farm” where quotes change overnight. Try to determine history using a Soviet history book.
Could ya add a FR mention in the title????
I like that and may violate your copyright. LOL
I had to abbreviate the title as it is. FR limits the number of characters in the title. Sorry.
Way to go Steel. Ya caught them with their pants down.
Thanks!
Welcome!
Not a bad guess :) Though I’ll add it may not have HAD to go all the way to The One. It could have been snagged by The Axe or The Rahm.
But it is surely one for the record books, eh?
Day after day- one outrage after another...
I keep saying I don’t believe that YOU LIE!/HolyO is going to complete this term, that he and his cronies will be impeached by the end of the year...
Any democrats who continue to back up this corrupt president will feel the backlash as well—if they’re smart they’ll start voting their consciences! WE THE PEOPLE have a looooooong memory, and now we have the internet to back us up with evidence, and proof of their corruption.
(I know it’s an oxymoron—smart congress critter! LOL!)
Quite plausible. But here’s another scenario.
The article had over 5000 hits. At some point the NYT wondered OMG- we unleashed a tsunami. What have we done they chest-beated since access was via Free Republic. NYT and WH have a symbiotic relationship. WH got wind of this. The big editorial staff was placed on red alert and a re-write was ordered. Speaking of Watergate, this is quite an editorial capital crime cover-up.
Yeah, let’s ask those 9.8% unemployed people (and you know the numbers are way higher, some pundits have said in the high teens!) how ‘successful’ YOU LIE!’s policies have been in the 10 months or so he’s been in office!
Only one change to your sequence of events. Rahmbo made the call, not Oboomba. That’s my own opinion of course.
Just as good a stab at the chain of events as mine. Whatever happened, we know the Old Grey Whore (thanks Pabiance) is in bed with Zero.
We need as many hits on this article so Pinch knows his deception didn’t work.
Thanks for letting us know about the fraud.
That is what Townhall thinks as well. This is their last paragraph. The portion I have underlined is ROTF funny!
As if the Times needed any more blows to its allegedly still-existing journalistic integrity, this one can't help but beg the question of who at the White House put pressure on the Times to do what it did. Why would any journalist put themselves in the position of making people wonder if they bow to the wishes of the politically powerful? The answer may be that journalism, once thought to be at least lurking occasionally in its Manhattan hallways, is officially dead at the New York Times.
