Eight American soldiers and two Afghans have been killed in an attack on two outposts in remote eastern Afghanistan, the U.S. military said on Sunday.

A tribal militia launched the attack from a mosque and a nearby village in Nuristan, one of the most dangerous regions of Afghanistan, the U.S. military said in a statement. The Americans and Afghans repelled the attack and "inflicted heavy enemy casualties," the statement said.

In the U.S. statement, Col. Randy George described it as "a complex attack in a difficult area." The Taliban claimed responsibility.

So now at least 40 have died, not counting the Afghans, since McChrystal requested more troops. Obama is sitting their twiddling his thumbs, trying not to offend the lunatics on the left, while our troops die. In fact, if I head over the liberal boards, I bet their solution is to cut and run. One thing Obama is good at is snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. If Bush were in office, you can dang well be sure more troops would be in Afghanistan right not.

not local yokels, community organizers.

Prayers for the soldiers and their families. Our young men and women should not be sent into harm’s way without full support, and definitely not with ‘rules of engagement’ that will surely end up with more totally unnecessary deaths.

Firstly, I don’t think you can blame this on the President. It’s not like he wants this to happen. Plenty of troops were killed when Bush was in office, way more than under Obama. I suspect if Obama had his druthers and could do what he felt like, he’d withdraw all troops from Iraq and Afghanistan immediately, but that’s just not politically feasible. Thoughts and prayers should be with the troops and not on blaming someone.

That said, it is his problem that he’s doing things like jetting off to Denmark, laughing it up with with a gap-toothed pervert and having beers with Henry Gates while his soldiers are dying and his commanders are urgently requesting reinforcements. If he truly feels that the mission is no longer productive, then be a man, get on TV say so, and bring them home. But to just sit around and do nothing while this happens is intolerable.

More importantly, note how the media covers this. In Iraq whenever troops were killed it was the number one story on the front page. Every news show did these in depth profiles and sob stories designed to whip up resentment and anger at Bush. It worked. Meanwhile, we’re having record casualties in Afghanistan and I haven’t heard one story about anyone killed there this year. No front page profiles. No Katie Couric or Brian Williams sob stories. Letterman was mad as hell about Iraq. He had Obama on and didn’t seem to care that hundreds are dying in Afghanistan. Where’s the media on this? Where are all those anti0war activists who cared so much about the troops? Nowhere.

I’m almost torn because I know that a huge debacle and deterioration in Afghanistan would mean that Obama will be gone by 2013, but I don’t want to see the country and the military have to suffer to bring that about.

I wonder if President Obama can see Arlington from his house. 8 more of his soldiers died and he’s missing in action.

But that’s to be expected from a guy whose only concept of the military was probably buying a pair of khakis at Old Navy.

The increasing fatalities have proven the current year as the deadliest for the foreign forces since the beginning of the US-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001.

As of Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at least 774 members of the US military had died in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan as a result of the US invasion of Afghanistan in late 2001, according to the US Defense Department.

386 foreign soldiers, including at least 228 Americans, have reportedly been killed this year.

Despite the presence of the US-led International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF) in Afghanistan since 2001, insurgency has risen in the country.

Tribal militia launched attacks on the foreign and Afghan fighters from a mosque and a village on Saturday morning, ISAF said in a statement.

The firefight happened in Nuristan province, it said without elaborating on the exact location. “The sources of the conflict in the area involve complex tribal, religious and economic dynamics,” it added.

“Coalition forces effectively repelled the attack and inflicted heavy enemy casualties while eight ISAF and two ANSF service members were killed,” the statement said, referring to Afghan National Security Forces.

snip

“The Taliban are in a strong position. They want to show that they are everywhere,” said Mariam Abou Zahab, from the Centre for International Studies and Research in Paris.

North and west Afghanistan were calm until the start of this year, but have seen a sharp security deterioration in recent months, as Taliban insurgents intensified attacks before the August 20 presidential election.

"""Plenty of troops were killed when Bush was in office, way more than under Obama.""""......

Everything you stated is ok AFTER the above.

Of course more were killed when Bush was in office for 8 years. Obama 10 MONTHS and the number killed are growing rapidly, when it is not necessary if only the impostor Potus would commit to sending what is needed. So, in light of that this is O's war now and he will be blamed for what is happening and deservedly so.

Plus the fact that the News kept track EVERY stinking evening of just what the dead count was, where is the same for O's war? Fox News should get on this and keep a running total. Glen Beck, Limbaugh are you listening?

Damn them ...damn him for his despicably disdainful, nonchalant treatment of our troops and their urgent needs.

Not just for the 8 yrs but on a monthly basis in Iraq. I was just saying that it’s not like there’s casualties because Obama’s the President. I’m sure if McCain was the President there would be casualties as well. Or if Bush had stayed for 3rd ter,. More? Less? Who knows?

The issue for me isn’t even so much the casualties as his lack of action. If this was all happening as apart of a plan and there were signs of progress, fine. Casualties happen in war, and historically even the 300 or so killed this year is extremely low.

Still, he doesn’t really seem to be displaying any leadership. My point was more to compare the media reaction, though. That was the main thrust. Bush really didn’t even have naything to di with main point and looking back I don’t even really know why I brought him up at all.
