ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- The United States and other nations should take a diplomatic approach toward Iran in negotiations over that nation's nuclear program, President Carter said Thursday.
President Carter says the U.S. should take a diplomatic approach toward Iran.
Iran's nuclear chief and representatives from the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, as well as Germany, started talks Thursday in Switzerland over a recently revealed nuclear facility in Iran.
Tehran says it is developing its nuclear program for energy purposes, but many nations think Iran wants to make nuclear weapons and will be able to do so in the near future.
The existence of the second uranium enrichment facility prompted President Obama and the leaders of Britain and France to publicly chide the Islamic republic and threaten further sanctions last week at the G-20 summit in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
A deliberate approach will work best with Tehran, Carter said.
"I hope and pray that Iran will be induced to permit international inspectors to come in and observe their entire nuclear program, because what they're doing so far is completely legal under the nonproliferation treaty," Carter said in an interview with CNN's Candy Crowley.
"They have a right to purify uranium and plutonium to use for nuclear power," Carter said. "If Iran is on the borderline, the constant threats that we or the Israelis are going to attack Iran is the best thing to force them to say, 'Let's defend ourselves.' I don't think Iran has made up their mind what to do, and I think the best thing we can do is engage them and stop making these idle threats."

Sounds like Jimmah is off his meds again.
OMG WHY DOSEN’T HE JUST SHUT UP AND GO THE HELL AWAY! ISN’T THE CRYPT CALL YOU JIMMY!
This means, for the good of the world, the MOST EFFECTIVE, PRO-ACTIVE thing we could do would be to threaten Iran.
Or what, Jimmah?
He’s not off his meds...he’s just never forgiven us for electing Reagan. He hates America because we wisely rejected and dumped him.
Because it worked so well for Carter (NOT!)
Carter’s dealings with Iran certainly show he knows what he is talking about, don’t they? /s
Exactly. If he even imagines anyone would listen to him on Iran, he is delusional.
Iran’s very existance as an “Islamic State” is the fault of Jimmy Carter.
Taking advice from Carter on how to deal with Iran would be like taking advice from Neville Chamberlain on how to deal with Germany.
We really need to send him another bunny...
Like HE’S an expert on Iranian threats....................
mmmmm mmmmmmm mmmmmm Jimmuh The Arabist Carter.
Websters:
Absurdity - ab, surd, ity
Jimmy Carter addressing international policy concerning Iran.

It’s almost unfathomable how dim this bulb is.
Hey Carter! It’s raining, and we’re going to Florida to get the money!
Jeez.. what a pinhead.
“Ahhh ahm an Authouritah, on Irahn...”.
The Hemorrhoid lecturing the choir of ZerO.
How many days ? 440 ?
Yeah Carter!....your advise has always done well for America!
Carter giving advice about Iran is the same as Chamberlain opining about Nazi Germany and McGovern about the Soviet Union.
Of all the people to weigh in on the situation in Iran, President Carter has the least impressive track record of any person, followed closely by President Clinton. I cannot believe there are actually Americans who think either of them had good judgment when it came to Iran/Iraq. We’re sitting where we are today because of them, and this peanut farmer from Georgia and the man from Hope, Arkansas, think they have an opinion worth listening to. Unbelievable.
Every day feels more like Alice through the Looking Glass. Every. Single. Day.
Please donate one dollar to the keyboard replacement fund here at free republic. Liquids shooting from your nose tend to fry them LOL
I could just hear jimmah saying that.
444.
Exactly!
How often does this guy have to disgrace my name?
The worst ex-President ever. (Maybe Obama will give him a run for his money, but I think he will likely slink away)
Getting advice from Carter on Iran is like getting babysitting tips from Roman Polanski.
Peanuts was the last one of them to fool me.
I could never wish that on anyone. Nothing is worth that...nothing.
Yeah, let’s listed to the failed former President Carter, who found that the only living thing that he felt comfortable in attacking, other than conservatives by stabbing them in the back, was his “killer rabbit.”
Jimah, Jimah,
When will you learn? I thought that with age comes wisdom. Unfortunately for you the graft didn’t take.
Why do you think that when you were in charge the Iranian were thumbing their nose at you, yet couldn’t give us the hostages back fast enough when Ronnie Raygun took over? Didn’t you notice the time frame on the return of the hostages? Or did the Plains Star Tribune take pity on your ego and leave that story off the front page? You must have missed it when you were looking for your favorite comic strip “Peanuts”.
And what does Jimmy Carter know about dealing with Iran. Last I heard, that was pretty much his signature accomplishment, arousing and encouraging the Islamic jihadist movement, by removing the factor that kept them in line, namely, the Shah of Iran.
The Shah was a despot, and by modern standards of Western nations, a tyrant. But he was the very picture of progessive thought in the Middle kEast.
The rule of the ayatollahs has not been an improvement for the people of Iran. Furthermore, the fanatical theocrats are beyond calculated negotiations with foreign elements. In international affairs, the Shah was amenable to reason and managed business contracts. The Islamic Republic of Iran is almost totally disrespectful of international agreements.
what nitwit asked him?
Jimmah, STFU, you had your chance...Obama flubs this, and all signs says he will, then the grown-ups are going to have to fix this..and seeing as how I have more than a few buddies who are amongst those who will be asked to do it..I am not eager for this to happen, but all signs suggest it will.

I agree, Jimmah, we should stop making idle threats.
Sounds about right. Reagan had barely lowered his right hand accepting the office when Iran announced their release.
Even a blind pig will find an acorn now and then. I agree in this instance. Don't threaten Iran.....just nuke them without warning.
Wow, the peanut farmer sure is good at standing up for America’s enemies!
I wonder if we could start a Carter memorial and funeral right now, so that when he finally does croak, regular scheduled programing will only be interrupted during a 5 minute commercial.
Maybe we could botch and destroy our own military equipment in the Iranian deserts to help boost their self esteem too.
Oh wait. . . I think someone already did that.
LOL! Jimmy Carter, the guy who made terrorist Iran possible, giving advice on Iran.
I thought this idiot built houses or something? Does he always have to comment on things that are beyond his grasp?
