McCain manager (Steve Schmidt) predicts Palin could prove 'catastrophic'
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/ ^ | October 2nd, 2009 | CNN

WASHINGTON (CNN) — The man who ran John McCain's presidential campaign warned Friday that Sarah Palin could lead to a 'catastrophic' election result for the GOP in 2012 if the former Alaska governor captures the party's presidential nomination.

"I think that she has talents," Steve Schmidt, the former campaign manager of McCain's failed presidential bid, told CNN's John King. "But my honest view is that she would not be a winning candidate for the Republican Party in 2012, and in fact, were she the nominee, we could have a catastrophic election result."

The comments came during The Atlantic Magazine's First Draft of History Conferece, held at the Newseum in Washington, DC.

"I don't think it's inconceivable that she could be the Republican nominee for President of the United States," added Schmidt — who, among others in the McCain campaign, butted heads behind the scenes with Palin in the weeks leading up to Election Day. "I do think it's fairly inconceivable that she could be elected President of the United States."

Looking ahead to Palin's upcoming book — entitled "Going Rogue" — Schmidt predicted he would be portrayed as "anti-rogue in the running of the campaign."

This guy is a Moron. We have not a conflict between "moderates" and "conservatives". We have a conflict between leaders and submissive worms who would wallow in the excrement of Donkeys for a little bit of power.

He’s not a moron. He’s a LOSER. McCain is not a moron. He’s a LOSER. We’re taking advice from losers now? No. As Alec Baldwin said in Glengarry Glen Ross, “Take my advice and fire their F@)$@ing ass because a loser is a loser.” Get lost Schmidt and don’t ever darken our towels again.

McCain’s way was already tried and we seen the result.

The GOP needs to get a conservative on the ticket in 2012, I’m agnostic as to whether or not it ought to be Palin or someone else.

McCain manager (Steve Schmidt) predicts Palin could prove 'catastrophic'

As opposed to the fantasic success of the campaign he just ran for McCain.

Republicans need to learn that the best candidates are not those who are next in the seniority line, and the best source of advice is not necessarily those with a proven and demonstrated record of failure.

You are right they are losers. They allowed Palin to be flayed alive in the media. The only way they could win was to fight like they wanted the Presidency and in the end they let the Lady take the fall. I saw the crowds for Palin. She was unbelievable. They should have buried Obama and I believe if Palin given the chance and the right running mate could shock the world. She keeps speaking like Reagan she will be the last one standing because people are tired of the same weak swill. We want principled leaders who are not afraid to speak against the beast in Washington.

Looking ahead to Palin's upcoming book — entitled "Going Rogue" — Schmidt predicted he would be portrayed as "anti-rogue in the running of the campaign."

Why would you predict something like that before the book even goes to press?

Perhaps because you were in fact the one trying to keep the campaign's "pet conservative" on her leash?

Why isn’t this idiot talking about how great it was to see Palin speak out effectively against the hideous Democratic proposals. If he is a republican, he should be happy she is on his side.

No, he’s like the rest of the spineless fools from the inner-circle. More interested in self preservation than the good of the country.

Someone post of a picture of this clueless a-hole so I can use it for a dartboard. They need someone to blame for the loss, and it’ll never be McCain, so they go ahead and blame the only factor that got McCain the votes he did get, and that is Sarah Palin. And IF THEY DON’T KNOW THAT THEY DON’T KNOW ANYTHING> THEY ARE ASLEEP.
I really really HATE boneheads, and people who are wilfully STUPID. He of course is ALSO trying to neutralize what millions of people will be reading about him in a few short weeks.

If the “moderate” wing of the GOP is saying stuff like this I take it as a strong reccomendation for a Palin candidacy in 2012. Like rats on foreign policy you can take anything “moderates” in the GOP reccomend, turn it 180 degrees, and get best results.

The guys are scared. The dems know a political threat when they see it, hence all the venom from the liberal fringe radicals and media and Letterman.

BUT, the Republican political elite see her as their biggest Nightmare because they have spent years and years building their own political empire, an empire that does not include the common people or anyone that does not go along with their own dirty little secrets.

What else explains all this critism from our own party elites?? With her they have no futures as they have thunk it.

They have continually given us losers, after all it is his turn to run, right? Losers to them assure that they will always have their jobs as promoting the conservative views and voting for them for which we will continually be grateful for all their attempts to rein in the Democrats. As long as they try, we keep rewarding them. NO MORE. GO SARAH GO

When he says catastrophic, does he mean like nearly 50% of your voter base NOT SHOWING UP TO EVEN VOTE (see 2008 Presidential Election)? I am just trying to determine what exactly is his idea of a catastrophe?

More importantly, maybe we should listen to this man, I mean he obviously knows what a catastrophic presidential campaign looks like - up close and personal!!
