CHICAGO (MarketWatch) -- In the first month after the end of the "cash-for-clunkers" program, automakers on Thursday are reporting virtually across-the-board sales declines with Chrysler and General Motors seeing volumes nearly halved, but Ford not hit as hard as expected and even robust gains for Hyundai.

That was as difficult to foresee as getting up at 4 AM and predicting sunrise.

Poor ObaMao. He nationalized Government Motors and Chrysler as payback to his UAW buddies who got him elected. But the public still won't buy their crap.

Yet they will buy Ford, our last remaining domestic car maker which hasn't been nationalized. And they will buy Hyundai, Toyota, Honda, etc. Go figure.

I’m thinking about buying a a full size Ford truck.

I’ve seen some nice deals on 2009 models.

Do y’all have any insight on the current market?

Should I wait until Israel bombs Iran?

What will prices be like after the Swine flu plague?

Will there be good deals once Zer0 declares martial law?

Thanks for your input. /not really sarcasm.

GM and Chrysler will not be around by the end of the Obama administration in 2012. Yes with massive government subsidies they will still be making cars, but the public will not be buying them. The new big three US automakers will soon be Ford, Toyota and Hyundai with two being foreign owned and using mostly non union labor to produce their popular cars. The automaker unions have simply dug their own graves.

"but Ford not hit as hard as expected and even robust gains for Hyundai. "

I own two chevrolets now, but they are both paid for and have over 100,000 miles on them; but they will be replaced by a Ford, or more probably by a Hyundai/Kia. I just learned that Hyundai and Kia are made in the same factory, one owned by the father, the other by his son. Even the engines in the Hyundai have "Kia" written on them.

I am done with General Government Motors forever...or any other automaker who hosts the UAW or any other union. Sorry boys, thank your buddy obama for your demise...Americans don't like to be force-fed anything.

Another unintended consequence of cash for clunkers, a friend in the used car business says the elimination of 700,000 used cars in the market significantly increased the wholesale price of cars but it’s not affecting what people will pay at the retail level. They are selling fewer cars and making much less profit on the ones the are selling.

The other thing that angers me about Cash for Clunkers is that it robbed a lot of poor families of the chance to use a donated car to get to work, school, and other important places.

Folks who work at the Kidney Foundation and other charitable groups reported that the number of donated cars has dropped dramatically since the damn "Cash for clunkers" program started.

I watched several videos of the engines of perfectly good cars being destroyed. One was what appeared to be a Volvo in very good condition and Vette that I didn’t see anything wrong with. The whole thing was a useless and needless Obama and liberal congress fiasco.

Exactly. I saw the Corvette video as well, and it made me sick. Also saw the video of the Caddy being destroyed.

The thought of a perfectly good Volvo being destroyed pisses me off because Volvo is a family vehicle, and could have been given to the Kidney Foundation or something so that a poor family could have used it for work/school/errands/etc...

F'ing Democrats and their widespread destruction!
