A RETIRED cop is defending his home against yobs - with an ELECTRIC fence.

Now a beat bobby has warned Ralph Harvey, 63, he may be sued if louts are injured by the live wire.

The former RAF police sergeant says his bungalow is "under siege" from thugs throwing bricks, paving slabs, breeze blocks - and even acid.

The final straw came after all his wife's jewellery was stolen in two burglaries.

Ralph, of Saltash, Cornwall, claims cops repeatedly ignored his pleas for help - so he put up a 12-volt wire along the inside of his wooden fence.

The dad-of-three said yesterday: "The fence is not illegal and is inside an existing garden wall but apparently if they try and climb over it and hurt themselves they could sue me.

"Well let them sue me. I'm a pensioner, and I'm fed up with us all being harassed.

"All I am trying to do it protect my home and family."

Andy Dunstan, police neighbourhood sergeant for Saltash, said incidents had peaked in the last few weeks.

 

He said police had stepped up patrols in the area and arranged a meeting with residents to discuss the issue.

He said:"We're very keen to improve the lighting because that would deter people and improve the descriptions.

"If anyone has any information we would be delighted to hear from them. We really don't know who's behind this at the moment."

Mr Harvey added: 'If they hit someone they will kill them. All we want to do is live peace.'

Another resident said he could 'fill a skip' with the amount of bricks thrown into his garden in the last six months.

He said acid had been thrown over his car and a waste bin had been thrown through his son's bedroom window.

Another female resident said: 'I'm petrified. I'm afraid to sit on the patio. If one of those bricks hits me it will kill me.'

The electric fence installed by Mr Harvey cost £100 and is designed for controlling sheep and cattle and is powered with 12 volts of electricity.

According to my UK counter parts, your comments are true. but they are also under a lot of pressure for good 'stats', thus officers will profile construction tradesmen for stop and search for illegal weapons. I.e. carrying a linoleum knife .....

The officer will get a consent search, find a 'dangerous weapon', arrest the driver/owner, then spend the rest of his - her shift doing paper work, maybe catch some 'football' on the telly.

12 volts is too low. I can touch both terminals of a car battery without feeling anything if my skin is dry enough. Any type of clothing or gloves would insult you from 12 volts. He should use a neon sigh transformer — that would be noticed.

I am only guessing but The 12 volts probably goes into an electric fencer. These are made to run on batterys where electric service is not available. The output that is put on the fence is a 550 to 600 volt AC pulse about every 3 seconds. This thing will curl your hair if you get across it, You can hear the ba$turd scream for blocks.

I had my mam over for over a couple of weeks, so I showed the sights of this great country though I had a laugh at one obama sticker carrier who had a lexus
