Monserrate's girlfriend: He didn't mean to slash my face

The woman at the center of State Sen. Hiram Monserrates assault trial took the stand today -- making it clear that despite testifying for the prosecution, she claimed her injuries were "an accident."
Karla Giraldo, 30, conceeded in Queens Supreme Court that "may have gotten a little bit jealous when he opened her purse and found a PBA card with another mans name on it.
She said she grew "angry" when the 42-year-old Democratic lawmaker tossed the plastic card down a trash chute in his Jackson Heights, Queens, building.
The DA claims the PBA card ignited a heated argument that ended with Monserrate slashing his girlfriend's face -- a wound that required 20 stitches. The defense, however, claims Monserrate was bringing her a glass of water in the dark on Dec. 19 when he tripped and smashed her face into the glass.

The perp has a poor choice in women if he was seeking fidelity. She souonds like quite a manipulator by virtue of her testimoony.
But he cut her face? Twenty stitches, thats about a 5 to 6 inch cut.Needs to do some time.

I ALWAYS bring my mistresses, especially the Central American ones, glasses of water in the dark, and trip, and cut their faces that way, always with 20 stitches. And ALWAYS after we’ve had a fight over some stupid little thing. This is not uncommon AT ALL.

Polymorphous Bowel Abscess? Why would he get jealous if he found his own card in her purse. Well, that could describe many democrats in New York.

Have Mercy! Now I am beginning to understand this situation. He wanted her for himself, but she being a somwhat pursued diva, was incapable of such a thing. Women like her have to have constant attention and adoration. What we may call , "high maintenance?" LOL.( Learned to avoid those long ago.) He should have just opened the door and said "Time to leave Ma Chika Bella!" Cutting her was a very bad idea. I am sure that mucho dinero has already been exchanged from him to her, for her somewhat positive mea culpa testimony. He's pulling a Bill Clinton on the judge. I tripped and her face fell right onto the broken glass in my hand.Reminds me of a movie where a character,, addressing his cuckhold said, "So, you just tripped and fell right into my wife?" In dem land this is merely publicity for re-election.He will find another similar Diva and eventually pound the pish out of her too.
I am always fascinated how most beautiful women, but not all mind you, through this pattern of karma, always end up with the most idiotic a$$ Haoles. They screw as many men as they can on the QT, and when with their "true love," just long to be punished. And then it goes too far.

Hiram is Dominican. There is a declining population of Colombians in Jackson Heights and Woodside, although they still outnumber the Doms in population, if not voters.

A six inch cut is practically an entire cheek; a plastic surgeon would use finer stitches(as well as thin diameter stiching material) so its possible 20 stiches could exist in a cut an inch or less.

The medical records convention is that the surgeon records only the number of stitches used on the skin that would need to be removed later. Puts in 20, takes out 20 5 days later. There might be more that are buried in the wound using absorbable material.

My mother was from Jackson Heights, but back when it was largely non-ethnic White. Lived there until almost the time she and my father (with me in utero) left for Nashville in ‘74.

J-Heights is a nabe in flux. Five years ago, I would have told you that it was on its way to becoming a Mexican neighborhood. Since then, Mexican immigration to NYC has slowed (and many have gone back), while the area has seen an influx of Tibetan refugees (J-Heights now being one of the few places where you can get Yak in a restaurant outside of Tibet). You still have a small Indian community that has been there for the past three decades. The Co-Ops between Roosevelt and Northern Boulevard (many of which are absolutely beautiful, btw) have become popular with an odd mix of Koreans, Chinese, and middle aged gay white men.
The Dominicans are mostly over in Corona next door, which they share with the Ecuadorians, and the ghost of Louis Armstrong. Monteserrate's district covered Jackson Heights, Corona, Woodside, and part of Elmhurst.

I might’ve mentioned when my mother visited her old apartment block (I think it was a Co-Op) in the past decade, she was shocked to see it in better shape than when she moved out in ‘73. Her father stayed behind for a few years longer before he moved to Mexico City. I don’t have any memories of it, but I was pushed around in a stroller in the neighborhood when we went back on visits.
Unimaginable at the time, moving to a rural section of Nashville, that has since become a denser low-class suburban area, we’re likely more dangerous and higher-crime than J.H. is now. I used to make the joke that we left J.H., only it followed us down here.

What helped Jackson Heights, or at least the area between Roosevelt and Northern Blvd, was the designation of several blocks of garden apartments/co-ops as a historic district in the late 1980s. Prevented those beautiful buildings on 37th Avenue from being torn down for the a-s ugly “Fedders Homes” (poorly constructed townhomes, usually filled with immigrants) that are a blight in many outer borough neighborhoods.

Ahh, yes - the old 'I tripped and smashed my glass into your face' routine. Very common. Happens all the time.
