GOP drafts anti-Rangel resolution
Politico ^ | 9/30/2009 | Glenn Thrush

Since last week, I've been hearing the House GOP was planning a resolution to ask Charlie Rangel to step aside as Ways and Means chairman.

GOP aides say they have been working on the draft for weeks, but part of their motivation, I was told, was payback at the Democratic leadership for forcing through what many R's thought was a mean-spirited resolution spanking Joe Wilson for his "You Lie!" outburst.

My POLITICO colleague Patrick O'Connor now reports that Rep. John Carter (R-TX) will introduce ANNOUNCE an anti-Rangel "privileged resolution" -- one that must be voted on the floor -- today, citing a GOP aide with knowledge of the move.

The exact wording is still unclear but the intent is the same as other before it: To embarrass Dems by forcing them to support an embattled leader who has become a poster chairman for the majority's ethical woes.

Good for the GOP on this one. Of course, it won't pass, but it may make for good theatre. A couple of GOP congresscritters have tweeted about this.

I could see a great campaign here.

“The Democrats campaigned against a culture of corruption in 2006 and 2008.” Show Pelosi and Reid making statements,

Then show pictures of Murtha, Rangel, ACORN, Dodd, with their misdeeds beside their name.

Then go to:

Ask Madam Speaker and Dingy Harry what they are waiting for

My question was rhetorical. The GOP in Congress have been playing between the 40 yrd lines with no plan on ever reaching the end zone.

McStain is just one of many examples.

In addition to the resolution, I suggest we should try to get our Congress Critters to cosponsor H.R.735, the “Rangel Rule Act of 2009.” This bill is a way to draw attention to Rangel. It amends the tax code to prohibit penalties and interest if a taxpayer writes “Rangel Rule” across the top of their tax return. It allows the rest of us access to the same “privileges” that Mr. Rangel has enjoyed for years (and many other Democrat, too).

The ethics truce. Agreed to by both parties. Capitol Hill is a cesspool.

I think they have been playing between the 10 and 30 yard lines on the left end of the field...

Why didn’t they do this when they had a Majority?

How long ago was that? Even then they broke a forty year run of control by the Democrats. How long did their majority last? As I recall their majority was so small the Democrats were able to block almost everything they tried to do. In addition they had their hands full with their response to 9/11, Iraq, Afghanistan and the fight against the Islamists and having to fight the Democrats every step of the way. Not much time left to worry about Charlie Rangel.

GET IT ALL IN GUYS---TALLYING UP THE RANGEL SWINDLE

(1) Took a "homestead" tax deduction meant for year-round DC residents - though he legally resides in New York.

(2) Rangel paid no taxes on his luxe property in the Caribbean;

(3) Has four rent-stabilized apartments (one is a campaign office);

(4) Improperly stored his car in a House parking garage;

(5) The NY Times reported oil-drilling businessman Eugene Isenberg made a $1 million pledge toward building The Rangel School for Public Service at City College of New York. Rangel later preserved a controversial offshore tax loophole that saved millions for Isenberg's company. The Isenberg-Nabors deal is, potentially, far more serious: It reeks of a quid pro quo between Rangel's official duties and fund-raising for his personal project. The Times reported that Rangel held meetings the same day, at the same hotel, with Isenberg to discuss the CCNY project and then with Nabors' chief lobbyist on the tax loophole.

(6) Took free trips sponsored by corporate lobbyists.

===========================================

Rangel's multiple ties with tax-exempt foundations smell to high heaven. Rangel’s pricey real estate deals are entwined with his financial connections to several tax-exempt entities.

The IRS says the biggest potential for IRS fraud are tax-exempt non-profits doing deals with other tax-exempt non-profits----all posing as do-gooder "foundations" and “charities.” The NY Post reports at least three tax-exempt entities connected to Rangel‘s finances:

(1) The Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service (Rangel co-opted $2 million via Capitol Hill allocations, plus another $700,000 from Dept of HUD),

(2) The NY Carib News Foundation (organized financing for Rangel’s island-hopping luxe Caribbean trips),

(3) The Ann S. Kheel Charitable Trust---supposedly aids "disadvantaged neighborhoods" gave $440,000 to The Charles B. Rangel Center (the largest single donation in the charity's 4-year history). Theodore Kheel, Esq, VP of Grupo Punta Cana Operating Company, (mortgage holder on Rangel’s luxury villa), donated $17,000 to Rangel's congressional campaigns and $52,000 to a Rangel-run political action committee since 1990, federal filings show. (Ann Kheel is his late wife).

(4) The "tax-exempt Carib News Foundation" subsidized Rangel’s trips to luxury island resorts---perfect places to hide money from the taxman. The published list of known money-laundering havens includes Panama, the Bahamas, the Cayman Islands, the Cook Islands, Dominica, the Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Panama, the Philippines, St. Kitts, Israel, and the Grenadines. Suspected tax havens include Cyprus, Gibraltar, Monaco, and Antigua.

QUESTION The owners extended the villa loan, due 1988. Interest was waived for Rangel. Can you say quid pro quo? Rangel eventually paid it off in 2003. How much of Rangel's loan payoff was hidden behind (A) Congressional earmarks? Or (B) from federal funds Rangel got for his "non-profit," then illegally converted for his own use?

The IRS has targeted tax-exempt non-profits as rife with fraud. There are zillions of ways n/p can siphon off tax-exempt money, and illegally convert it for personal and political uses. Donations from one tax-exempt non-profit to another non-profit are THE biggest scams.

Excuses. They should have pulled the trigger on the nuclear option and not been wimps about it.

Reagan was able to "move the center". The GOP controlled Congress didn't even try... Bush 43 could have repealed a lot of unConstitutional nonsense, some of it imposed by his Father, yet did NOTHING.

There is no excuse for this. Period. The RINO's are in collusion with their Democrats "opposition" in a massive shell game with the American public.

Wrong? Bush 41 Import ban in Eastern bloc weapons. Idiotic, silly, and anti-gun. Bush 43 was under pressure by several groups to repeal this and DID NOTHING.

Clinton had several EO's the Bush 43 could have reversed with another EO and yet DID NOTHING.

If you want to start right in with the insults, feel free. But don't expect it to win you any debate points.
