Hingham school assignment of Obama biography riles parents
The Boston Herald ^ | September 2, 2009 | Laurel J. Sweet

Posted on 09/29/2009 2:34:39 PM PDT by Clintonfatigued

President Obama’s “Dreams From My Father” is creating a nightmare for 1,099 Hingham High students cramming to wrap up their “required” summer read - a book, it turns out, they didn’t have to read in the first place.

With school opening Tuesday, the Herald has learned teens whose offended parents complained were allowed by Principal Paula Girouard McCann and Helaine Silva, head of the Hingham Public Schools English Department, to pick any other memoir - an option they never publicized.

“I had no idea,” sophomore Graham King, 15, who was only on page 120 of the 460-page autobiography yesterday, told the Herald with an astonished look. “My parents would like me to be done with it.”

Given the kind of student I was, I would have handed in blank paper and said that it was primarily about his academic period.

Wonder if they might come across this:

September 29, 2009
Unmasking Obama
By Thomas Lifson
It is now abundantly clear that the image of Barack Obama sold to the American electorate was tightly edited, air-brushed, and exaggerated. He has worn a series of masks — eloquent orator, brilliant scholar, centrist, and literary sensation. All of these masks are coming off as he copes with a job for which image will not suffice. For instance, hiding behind the eloquent orator mask is a guy who says “uhh” a lot when he is winging it, and who makes lots of factual and grammatical mistakes.

Now, thanks to Jack Cashill, the literary mask has been removed. Obama is a literary pretender. Case closed. The evidence is overwhelming that Bill Ayers ghost-wrote Dreams from my Father, the book which established Obama’s pose as a brilliant writer (and therefore a fine mind, in the estimation of many). The stylistic resemblance between the Dreams and Ayers’ work is stunning. Now we know, thanks to Chris Andersen’s new book, that Obama hit a brick wall trying to fulfill his contract to produce a book, and shipped off his notes and tapes to Ayers. That is the classic description of a ghost writer’s assignment. And it completely fits the theories Cashill had inferentially reasoned from the data of his literary studies.

The revelation that Chris Andersen had two separate sources means that this fact meets the journalistic standard of reliability, provided by a respected, established bestselling author. Obama’s dismissal of Ayers as “just a guy in the neighborhood” has been shown to be an outright lie.

That will certainly be the verdict of history, regardless of whether or not the issue of Obama’s ghost written book ever breaks through into the national discussion. My bet is that the media will not be able to suppress discussion. The image of Obama packing boxes full of tapes and notebooks and hauling them over to Ayers’ house a couple of blocks away, is simple and compelling evidence of a ghost writer being put to work. Jack’s literary detective work made the case, and Andersen’s two neighborhood sources confirm it.

Anyone who refuses to deal with this issue is willfully avoiding topics that make Obama look bad. The facts are in the public domain.

The New York Times has just appointed a new editor to monitor online conservative websites and talk radio, to make sure the paper doesn’t embarrass itself again, as it did on the Van Jones and ACORN stories. Unlike every other editor, the Times is keeping the name of this editor secret.

[Jill Abramson, the managing editor for news,] and Bill Keller, the executive editor, said last week that they would now assign an editor to monitor opinion media and brief them frequently on bubbling controversies. Keller declined to identify the editor, saying he wanted to spare that person “a bombardment of e-mails and excoriation in the blogosphere.”

So, whoever you are at the New York Times, you’re probably reading American Thinker as an unpleasant duty. If I knew who you were, I’d bombard you with a polite note laying out the trail for you to follow on this important story. The President of The United States lied when he claimed that “I actually wrote them [his books] myself.”

I think that’s news that’s fit to be printed, even if uncongenial to the incumbent Democrat president. Don’t you?

Thomas Lifson is editor and publisher of American Thinker.

First they show the kids this:

I Pledge

Then they have the kids do this:

More Obama Indoctrination going on in schools

And then there's the books they might read...

Sept 8th: Here are two of the books on Obama your kids are expected to read [get your children OUT!]

Obama Son of Promise

No, no cult of personality there, no agenda there at all. /s

Here is everything the children need to know about “Dreams From My Father.” http://www.stentorian.com/Obama/#Dreams

That was the problem with people like Joyce [a college classmate of Italian, African-American, Native American, and French ethnicity]. They talked about the richness of their multicultural heritage and it sounced real good, until you noticed that they avoided black people. …The truth was that I understood [Joyce], her and all the other black kids who felt the way she did. In their mannerisms, their speech, their mixed-up hearts, I kept recognizing pieces of myself. And that’s exactly what scared me. Their confusion made me question my own racial credentials all over again. …To avoid being mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully. The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist professors and structural feminists and punk-rock performance poets.

“Dreams From My Father,” pages 99-100

But this strategy alone couldn’t provide the distance I wanted, from Joyce or my past. After all, there were thousands of so-called campus radicals, most of them white and tenured and happily tolerated. No, it remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names.

“Dreams From My Father,” page 101 (paperback, ISBN 978-1-4000-8277-3)

Tim was not a conscious brother. Tim wore argyle sweaters and pressed jeans and talked like Beaver Cleaver. …His white girlfriend was probably waiting for him up in his room, listening to country music.

“Dreams From My Father,” pp. 101-102

It contradicted the morality my mother had taught me, a morality of subtle distinctions–between individuals of goodwill and those who wished me ill, between active malice and ignorance or indifference. I had a personal stake in that moral framework; I’d discovered that I couldn’t escape it if I tried. And yet perhaps it was a framework that blacks in this country could no longer afford; perhaps it weakened black resolve, encouraged confusion within the ranks. Desperate times called for desperate measures, and for many blacks, times were chronically desperate. If nationalism could create a strong and effective insularity, deliver on its promise of self-respect, then the hurt it might cause well-meaning whites, or the inner turmoil it caused people like me, would be of little consequence.

If nationalism could deliver. As it turned out, questions of effectiveness, and not sentiment, caused most of my quarrels with Rafiq.

–Dreams From My Father, pp. 199-200

…I ceased to advertise my mother’s race at the age of twelve or thirteen, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites… (page xv)

I blew a few smoke rings, remembering those years. Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it. Not smack, though… (page 93) [http://www.whitehousedrugpolicy.gov/streetterms/ByAlpha.asp?strTerm=B, “Blow” = “Cocaine; to inhale cocaine; to smoke marijuana; to inject heroin”]

I would occasionally pick up the paper [Louis Farrakhan’s “The Final Call”] from these unfailingly polite men, in part out of sympathy to their heavy suits in the summer, their thin coats in winter; or sometimes because my attention was caught by the sensational, tabloid-style headlines (CAUCASIAN WOMAN ADMITS: WHITES ARE THE DEVIL). Inside the front cover, one found reprints of the minister’s [Farrakhan’s] speeches, as well as stories that could have been picked straight off the AP news wire were it not for certain editorial embelleshments (”Jewish Senator Metzenbaum announced today…”). Dreams From My Father, p. 201

Hingham High BO report:

I was born a poor, black child. But almost immediately I became a rich, white child when my daddy ran out and my mom gave me up to my grandmother. Later on in my youth I again became a poor, black child. But only when I needed to be.

We have absolutely no idea at this time the scope of indoctrination of our children for the glorification of this anti-American communist freak!

This really worries me with Congess passing the commie kids camps and Americorps bills where O’bozo fully intends to bring together his own Brown Shirt youth militia.

We need to be looking into these kinds of activities more and more.

I went to prep school. One dozen of the “Classics” every summer! Man! If you didn’t read them, you were screwed! Required book reports, tests, etc.. I’m a bookworm, so I didn’t mind. Liked Dickens, but sheesh! I struggled with “Paradise Lost!” For the 10th grade? And, we had to write a senior thesis! Only ten pages though.........

This could backfire on the commies. These kids are all getting a lesson in the Democrat Party’s disrespect for freedom and democracy.

They are going to see that their parents don’t like them being used as a political tool by the government Left. They will learn the meaning of the words “poitical indoctrination.” This lesson will ring bells in college, too. Wait until they learn Obama did not write the biography rather a communist terrorist wrote it!

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

Dreams from my Father...Did he dream or did he have dreams his father gave him?...Or is that a hint that this book is based on half fact, half fictionalized dreams amd the dreamer is not even sure what is real or unreal?...

Interesting subject matter but it’s like trying to hit a moving target-—with so many lies, distortions, and half-truths from this obviously deranged President who flits from one idea to the next, how can anyone write a good book report?...

Besides this is a political hot potato and the teacher should have had better sense than to assign it...I’d hand in a blank paper and tell the teacher—if schools insist on freedom of religion-meaning God is not in the classroom- then students can demand freedom from political coercion amd freedom of speech—yes, a blank paper is freedom of speech...
