GOP’s next hope to unseat Barbara Boxer: Carly Fiorina
Christian Science Monitor ^ | Sept. 28, 2009 | Daniel B. Wood

Posted on 09/28/2009 3:27:53 PM PDT by La Enchiladita

Carly Fiorina is emerging as a potential GOP challenger for the US Senate seat of Bay Area liberal Barbara Boxer next year, and the prospect has energized the California Republican Party.

Not yet an official candidate, Ms. Fiorina is the former CEO of Hewlett Packard (HP) and was an economic adviser to Sen. John McCain’s presidential bid last year. Like Meg Whitman, who just announced her campaign for governor, Fiorina is a newcomer to politics with very deep pockets. She has registered a campaign committee that reportedly had a strong presence at the state GOP convention this past weekend in Indian Wells, Calif.

Her candidacy to unseat Ms. Boxer, now in her third term in the Senate and who has never faced a female opponent in the general election, would turn the election into one of the most-closely watched Senate races for 2010.

“Fiorina would certainly skyrocket the attention paid to the 2010 Senate race,” says Jessica Levinson, political analyst for the Center for Governmental Studies (CGS). “Her candidacy is symbolically important for the GOP. It puts a new, younger female face on the party.”

Lamestream media’s next hope to deflect from conservative Candidates Chuck DeVore’s strong challenge to Barbara Boxer: Carly Fiorina

He won the straw poll 91% to 6%, proving the GOP based does not want her.

Sadly, Boxer has big money behind her, also huge contributors from Hollywood and the Silicon Valley. Unseating her would make my day though.

That is referenced in the article. She may be dumb, but is wily campaign-wise.

She is the biggest waste of taxpayer $$ ever. Do you recall when she was a new Rep, the first thing she did was the most expensive office renovation ever seen in Congress?

They don’t even pretend to be what they’re not.

The "Pubbies" are not. Only the party above principle "just win baby" RINOs, the New Majority silk sock Nelson Rockefeller liberals and other odd assorted nitwits worshipping at the church of the RNC (RINO Central).

Orange County conservatives will not be supporting Fiorina. Take it to the bank.

It's pretty obvious you are far too new on forum to be running your mouth like that. The same could be said, and moreso, re Massachusetts, Minnesota, Maine, New York, Oregon, on and on, even Montana.

So, in essence, your solution to the nation's political woes is to disband the Nation. Not a good idea.

If you're so smart, have you read Liberty and Tyranny? Having read it, do you understand it?

So HP selling printers to Iran will make Babbs a better Senator than Carly? Ain’t that thinking one of the reasons we got nobama and the dem majorities????

Fiorina was McCain's economic advisor. She sure "advised" him well last October, didn't she? He was lost.

She ran HP into the ground, almost killing it. She insisted on merging with Compac Computer when most experts believed it made little sense for HP to merge with a leading competitor for an huge amount of money rather than just out compete it.

During Fiorina's tenure HP had lost roughly 50% of its' share value. She was the first women to be named CEO of a Fortune 20 company so the HP board of directors was hesitant to can her. It tried to shift power away from her which she fought for obvious reasons. Eventually though she was fired and HP stock literally jumped on news of her dismissal.

Don't think for a minute Boxer won't condense Fiorina's history at HP into a one minute commercial about bad decision making because she will. True or not, "Babs" will paint Carly as an inept CEO who in six years almost ran one of the most widely known and respected California companies in the world right into the ground. And there is no way Fiorina will be able to change the public perception.

So the next question becomes, "Why settle for someone with all that baggage?" I live in California and the answer is, "We shouldn't."

BTW, I think one of the main reasons why "we got nobama and the dem majorities" was because McCain was the GOP candidate and many of us had no use for him. Therefore many of us stayed home. I didn't but many did.

Then work like a devil for an alternative to Carly.

Politics is and always has been a best choice between imperfect candidates. Those that “stayed at home” last November have as much responsibility for us ending up with nobama as does Acorn’s loading up fraudulent voters. Funny that shortly after the election all those “stay at homers” quietly quit bragging about it.

All I care to remember from her days as the head of HP was in a trade magazine she made the comment about the increasing trend of companies to “outsource” their workforce by using foriegn based operations to produce and conduct services for the parent domestic companies...

While laying off those domestic employees...

She basically said that those people getting laid off need to just get used to it and adjust to the changing employment market...

I am sure that her sentiments are still in that camp in these days of economic stress to the American workforce...

Therefore she can go pound sand from here to Christmas as far as I am concerned...

The Republican party needs to drop her from any consideration to hang an “R” after her name...

She can get used to that and adjust...She needs to practice what she preaches...

Then work like a devil for an alternative to Carly. While I understand your sentiment the reality here in California with our GOP is to first look at how deep a candidate's pockets are, then try to position that candidate somewhere in the middle of the political spectrum. Too many Republicans jumped at the chance to elect Arnold simply because they thought he could win. He did and look what we got. Carly Fiorina is the same type candidate. Sadly, if our GOP decides to run her, she'll win the primary and all the "work" in the world won't stop it.

Simply put and generally speaking, the California GOP isn't much more conservative than the California Democratic Party, particularly in SoCal.

“Unfortunately there are not two separate primary ballots labeled “GOP” and “GOP base”.”

Understood. You dont even need to be a Republican to vote in the Cali GOP primary.

So Carly might win the primary, by in effect getting non-Republicans and non-conservatives to put her over the top in the Republican primary. She will then have zero grassroots base Republicans enthused about her (like McCain) and (like McCain) will get slaughtered in November.

Very predictable.

the increasing trend of companies to “outsource” their workforce

She's a corporate citizen of the world first, American citizen second if that, and only for as long as it benefits her. This behavior was once unheard of and shamed but is now the norm in companies.

She should really run for a UN position instead, except that wouldn't have much power. Once someone has wealth, the next thing they want is raw power.

There are so many who could learn so much from reading Liberty and Tyranny, it boggles the mind. But what we overwhelmingly have in politics is the career politician vs. the principled citizen legislator. The latter is well-defined in Tom Coburn's Breach of Trust. I don't know if those citizens who identify as conservative base realize what we are up against.
