As a part of our commitment to using technology as a way to better serve our customers, we believe that social media and social networking can be valuable tools. We are in the process of determining how we want to use these tools as an organization. Because we are in such a highly regulated industry, there are many considerations in our analysis of social media. For instance, product information distributed by a XXXXX employee via social media can be subject to the same compliance and regulatory guidelines as an advertisement. If the proper disclosures are not included in the product discussion, XXXXX could be liable for regulatory violations. The use of social media and social networking is growing rapidly, and we do know that we want to participate. However, we need to first develop our social media strategy, framework and policies in order to ensure that XXXXX remains a safe, sound place for our employees and our customers. Therefore, we will disable access to all social networking sites effective at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 29. We are giving you advance notice so that you will have time to change your contact information from your Frost email address to your personal email address on any social networking sites that you use. We see great value in using social media, and we will move quickly to develop the right framework for XXXXX. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
I'm reading this as my FReep-at-work days are over.
Soon find out.
It’s a forum, not a social networking site.
Change jobs...
Until we meet again...........FReegards.
Try tomorrow and see if you can get to DU or KOS.
The DoD installation De-Freeped about 2 years ago and about 6 mo ago it Re-Freeped. :-)!
I don’t think this will count. Social networking sites are those like Facebook and MySpace.
Got a blackberry, iPhone, etc.?
;)
Just sayin’...
They’re probably referring to Facebook and places like that. Still, you’ll find out Wednesday morning, won’t you?
The firewall here blocks facebook, myspace and a bunch of others.
FReep comes through just fine.
And while I may use the internet at work, I NEVER would use my work email address on any social networking site.
Yeeesh!
ixquick
Telecommute like I do and it becomes a non-factor. All my superiors want are good loan officer and processor candidates, if I provide that, they are happy as clams. They have no idea where I go online and could care less...
I don’t know why more people don’t do this ... I can live anywhere in the world where there’s an Internet connection, phone service and electricity.
My staff accesses off site pages for their personal stuff. Try going to an intermediate site to open some form of personal account. Try a google account.
oh, and don’t be dumb. Check out ixquick after work.
(Converting one Troll at a time)
When the internet went down at our office a few months back, I realized something:
I’d get a LOT more work done if not for FR.
btt
Do you work at Frost Bank?
When we blocked social-networking sites, our net-nanny software did not classify FR as one so I still had access. Wait and see.
oops.
People wouldn’t hate change so much if once in a while a change would come along that actually made things nicer for you.
Get a BlackBerry.
Ok...my work blocks Freep...but how do you do that with a google account?
We are giving you advance notice so that you will have time to change your contact information from your Frost email address to your personal email address on any social networking sites that you use
Frost Bank?
Sounds like they are talking about myspace and facebook.
FReeping is my work.
I do something else on the side to feed my family. :)
You might be thinking of Facebook which was recently re-allowed.
I've Freeped on NMCI computers on land and at sea the whole time I've been in the navy (during downtime of course).
We have “social network site” alerts now on our web browser, but FR doesn’t get the warning. Some blog sites do.
My company has a firewall programmed to block social networking sites and I cannot access Facebook, MySpace etc. But Free Republic and other political forums ARE accessible.
Adios. Nice knowing ya
That would be nice. But I'd need 3 or 4 high-power computers, about 8 large monitors, 2 redundant T-1 lines, about recorded 5 phone lines, a secure perimeter, and a staff to maintain it all.
Any phone you can get to the Web with —— I use an Envy and can get to where I need to with no problems
Wanna bet?
He who owns the puter makes the rules. I have no rules where I work. If I did, I would quit.
“All my superiors want are good loan officer and processor candidates”
Seems like that could be challenging these days....

Reason for restriction: Forbidden Category "Weapons"
This is the crap I have to put up with!
Sorry for your banishment.
Free Republic isn’t a social networking site, it is a forum. But, in the unlikely event that they do block it, get a laptop with Wifi to use at lunchtime. Sit in a Wifi location and Freep away like mad for an hour.
I remember when DoN blocked yahoo mail. Ironically, it was safer than NMCI mail at the time. We kept getting yahoo mail from yahoo india.
Get a netbook and pay Sprint.
the only way I can get access is I have go through yahoo...
Get a USB Sandisk Smartdrive with it’s own browser.
Should solve the problem.
Betcha it gets classed as such.....betcha, betcha, betcha...
boy, our Lawyer-Leech Class must really be dumpster-diving these days if they are surfing through Facebook looking for inaccurate product statements
Dude, ur beeber just got frosted.
Nope FR
Really? On NMCI?
I can recall times on the boat when we were having bandwidth issues and FR would be one of the few sites that still worked. One reason I'm glad Jim hasn't "modernized" FR with a bunch of smilies, avatars, long sigs and crap that bogs down other forums.
Lets see,
high powered computers (check)
8 Large monitors (partial - a couple of large monitors and KVM to switch between)
2 Redundant T-1 lines (not redundant but I do have 6 mbit service, that is about 4 T-1 lines aggregate)
5 phone lines (marginal - got the lines if you count cells but no recording devices, I’ll have to look into that.)
a secure perimeter - Network secure via firewalls, routers, IDS (check) House secure ( 4 dogs, alarm system, 3 pistols, a rifle and a shot gun, check)
Staff to maintain it all (me - I wonder if I could talk the wife into a sexretary ... opps, I mean a secretary)
Check out ProxyWay ... might be an answer to your problems.
