This week, we revisit the issue of race in the US, as it remains a hot topic here for the second week running. No wise man should touch Americas dirty secret unless he is forced to by severe provocation and there is no way out.
The outburst by South Carolina Congressman Joe Wilson in the combined houses of Congress, and his uncalled for remark aimed at President Barack Obama: You lie, has brought the dirty secret out into the public.
In my case, Brother Boston sought to refute my remarks by arguing that my very successful career in the US proves the opposite. No, brother Boston, my success is despite the ever present demonic presence of racism. There is something in the American psyche that will overwhelm their most generous nature whenever the issue of race is touched. Sometimes even the most educated men become possessed by what we can only describe as demonic influence when the issue is mentioned.
President Jimmy Carter, 1976-1980, a native of Georgia, told Emory Methodist University that the attacks on Obama have gone beyond the standard of decency. Here is what he had to say. When a radical element of demonstrators and other begin to attack the president of the US as an animal, or as a reincarnation of Adolf Hitler, or when they wave signs in the air that said we should have buried Obama with Kennedy, these things are beyond bounds.
Because of their history of political murders, these jokes are taken seriously. Carter went on to tell the students that these demonstrators have been influenced to a major degree by a belief that he should not be president because he happens to be black.
It is amazing how even the best educated of them all, can lose it completely when the issue of race becomes a factor.
There was no better educated and more informed man in South Carolina than Governor James Byrnes (pronounced Burns), 1951-1955. He had been a Congressman, a Senator, a Supreme Court judge and later Secretary of State and was aware of Gandhis movement for independence. Yet, despite all this experience, he amended the South Carolina constitution in 1951 in order to stop school integration. He raised taxes by three percent so he could equalise funding for black schools, an impossible task. Here is a thoroughly good man, but who for some reason is possessed by demonic powers, because of race. He retired one year after the US Supreme Court decided that there was no such thing as separate but equal. I am talking about the blindness that affects otherwise good Americans when it comes to the issue of race.
Carter had an unusual experience. When the list for new generals was sent to him in 1978, he rejected it thirteen times because there was not a single black general on the list. Finally, they came up with Colonel Colin Powell. The rest of the story is history.
Boston challenges me personally. There is no black man, to my knowledge, who has been exempt from race persecution. Those of us who have done well owe our careers to white protectors.
US Supreme Court Judge Clarence Thomas, who divorced his black wife and married a white woman thought that that was the end of racism. A protégé of former President George Bush, he told a Senate Committee that race was used by blacks to cover up their own career failures. He hated affirmative action, even though he had benefitted from it.
His enemies in the senate brought Professor Anita Hill who testified that Thomas had told her that his private parts were the largest in the world. Hill was a black woman.
This charge has nothing to do with his judicial acumen, but the issue is that it fed into the racial stereotypes of hundreds of years where black men were singled out for extermination. The mythical charge was that they were all sex and no brains (if you get my meaning). Thomas shouted: RACISM: This is a high tech lynching.
The debate has advanced to the stage where race itself is rarely mentioned in conversation. In the Obama case, Republicans use code words like undocumented immigrants, unwed mothers, welfare queens (Reagans phrase) criminal revolving door to refer to black images of the worst type. In fact there were twice as many white women on welfare than there are black women.
Obama can provoke racists at the most sensitive psyche. Blogger Bob Greene asked Mike Casey of Carlisle, Pennsylvania how he regarded Obama. Casey confessed that: He is poised and carries himself (well). He is energetic, he is charismatic, he is fresh and there is no question he is very intelligent. He is not going to get my vote.
There is no reason to suggest that Casey is a bad guy or that he is unreasonable, except that when the issue of race is mentioned, such a thoroughly good man freaks out.
Obama confessed, much against his own grain that the media loves conversation about race (which he himself avoids at all costs). It is a running thread in American history that is powerful and it evokes some very strong emotions.
If you want to lose friends, you would be advised to raise this issue to your otherwise good white friends. Race is the one dirty secret that lingers maliciously under the skin, ready to kill conversations and friendships.
Envy, my friend, envy is what it is.
lies based on lies
Can you imagine in a country that has killed whites and stolen their farms they have the unmitigated gall to talk of racism in America.
Yes: We do have racism in America, but it isnt a white trait alone.
Obama was elected by racism, his appointees are racist or tax cheats. yeah we have it all right, but so far they havent taken away white farms, although they are trying to starve out those in the San Joaqin valley of California.

"Mugabe could have been an esteemed statesman and a popular president. Instead he has run his country into the ground, one more tyrant on a long-suffering continent, his people waiting for him to die."

Oh, yeah! I know! Because Zimbabwe is that sterling bastion of liberty, capitalism and brotherly love that sets the role model for nations--NOT.
Our Pres. wants us to emulate them, I do believe.

Hahaha! I just caught that!
Ken:
When your country is 1% as successful, powerful, just and good as America then you might be able to criticize the United States. We could destroy you in two minutes without breaking a sweat! If the USA is soooo evil, why didn’t they take over the world in 1945, when they had atomic weapons and no one else did? Can you imagine Russia, Nazi Germany, Iran, Imperial Japan or most any other country passing up that opportunity? You pee on the leg of the guardian of your world like a petulant 5 year old! Sod off!

... it’s that bad.
No, worse.

Yeah, we’re racist. Blacks account for what, 25% of our population yet we have a black president.
We’re about as racist as Lisa Lamponelli.
Is Y%# L@* the new N-Word?
Hell, it was this guy’s ancestors that sold away their own into slavery to begin with. They are the guilty ones, not the Americans.
Right. The land where inter-tribal pogroms are a way of life id criticizing anyone else. Pretty funny.

How much is a copy of the Zimbabwe Financial Gazette?
Pick up a copy today! Only $175,000,000 each!;)
Isn’t “Zimbabwe Financial Gazette” sort of a contradiction in terms, like, say
“The Saudi Pig-Farmer’s Almanac”?;)
Imagine a person who lives in a city like Buffalo, NY, or Cambridge, MA. He lives under a black mayor, a black governor and a black president. Clear evidence of “The Man” keeping us white folks down.
On O! so many levels.
“Zimbabwe Financial Gazette” is sort of like “Playboy for Eunuchs”
How much longer do we play this game? Everyone in America is doing better than they otherwise would if they were still in their country of origin but none so much as the African-American. The African-American benefits from America more so than any other category of Americans. Most Americans of European origin would see little deterioration if they returned to the country of their ancestors.
My point is that the African-American, more so than any other group, benefits the most from being in America.
Zimbabwe Financial? Is that like Jumbo Shrimp or Congressional Ethics?
Is the The Zimbabwe Financial Gazette really the newspaper produced by patients undergoing some occupational therapy in an insane asylum?
Do they print on bleached Zimbucks because they were cheaper and worth less than blank paper?
I know a couple of Mofaqs. After all these years here, it's still really hard to hear or say that name without wanting to giggle.
America’s biggest mistake was slavery.
(I totally agree.)(How you been?)
The Zimbabwe FINANCIAL Gazette. You have got to be kidding me!
The only publication THINNER than the Zimbabwe Financial Gazette would be a list of Osama’s accomplishments.
This was the first sign the author is off his meds. The remark was very much called for by our Liar-in-Chief.
Well said.
Zimbabwe, heheheheh.
I doubt anyone actually *IN* Zimbabwe has read this. Considering inflation is running, what, a few million percent a day...
...I’d hazard that it costs the entire GNP of Zimbabwe just to buy the paper this was printed in.
Isn’t Zimbabwe the country in which white property owners were murdered and their property confiscated?
Biden said Obama was ‘clean’. The MSM didn’t think this was indicative of racism. (But we know only republicans are racists.)
