Justice Department’s Holder seeks a renewed push in protecting minorities from discrimination

There is the ongoing review of the death of a man beaten by four white teenagers in a park in Shenandoah, Pa. The youths, all high school football players, shouted “Go back to Mexico” before one punched the man repeatedly with a metal shank in his fist, according to witnesses. Another kicked him on the left side of his head so hard that the Mexican man’s brain began to swell. He died two days later.

There is the continuing inaction three years after hundreds took to the streets of Tallahassee, Fla., protesting the acquittal of seven guards in the death of a 14-year-old black youth, one of whom gave a quick knee to the youth’s stomach as another forced him to inhale smelling salts...

Their issues are wrapped up in what is a top concern for Attorney General Eric Holder, who has pledged to make the division his department’s “crown jewel” by returning its focus to protecting minorities against discrimination. What becomes of these cases, and others like them, will help determine the meaning of justice in the Obama administration.

Under the Bush administration, it was “destroyed,” said John Payton, president of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, who criticized the shift away from the department’s traditional civil rights focus to a more expansive agenda that included prosecuting complaints of religious discrimination and human trafficking. Independent investigations by the office of the inspector general also found that the civil rights division during George W. Bush’s presidency had been afflicted with political hiring scandals and racial insults...

Holder has said he recognized the size of the task. In his 2010 budget, he requested an additional $22 million for civil rights work, creating 54 new legal positions and bringing the staff up to 399 attorneys.

So the only civil rights that matter have to do with skin color?

Justice Department’s Holder seeks a renewed push in protecting minorities from discrimination”

Like the 2 Black Panther “minorities” who intimidated voters last year, and the black youth who beat up a white boy nearly to death for example, eh Holder?

The article mentions two of the (very) few cases of white-on-minority capital crimes, but not surprisingly completely ignores minority-on-white crimes. ...which of course are a heckuva lot more prevalent.

I think minority on minority crime is the most prevalent but since that doesn’t fit the current narrative we’ll ignore it.

I am not sure how any of this applies in 2009. The new definition of Racist is anyone who disagrees with policies and/or politics of any person of color.

Holder & the Obama administration are just fanning the flames of racism even more. More whites are going to feel resentment and won’t help blacks which in turn creates a vicious cycle which inevitable will explode. Blacks need to wake up and realize what is happening before it’s too late.

What will guys like Holder do once the collective sense of white guilt is all played out?

Things certainly won't go as well for them.

When will the African Americans say “Can’t we just all get along”... Not likely with the racist practitioners of today.

I never did worry or even think about skin color when I was in the military - we were all soldiers. After getting out, all I say was hiring by skin color, preferences, etc... I have since become a bit prejudiced for protection if nothing else... It is really hard to be color-blind since the government is so hard set to promote minorities...

And yes, I have experiences to back up those statements. It really is a shame that we can’t drop all of the color stupidity and just go by qualifications - but I doubt that will ever be in my generation (and probably not my sons).

The long sought dream of based on character rather than skin color seems to be a thing of the past.

No...that's just your standard crime - I wish all crimes were treated equally...BUT

When they made the distinction of "hate crime" based on race they sought to only prosecute white on black/asian/you name other than white victim.. crime. If they want to look at racial "hate" crime and give fair treatment to all citizens, then they most certainly should include crimes by other races on whites... and yes they are very prevalent.
