J.C. WATTS: Put away the race card - Polls and voting data don't support Carter's remarks
Las Vegas Review Journal ^ | 9/27/09 | JC Watts

Posted on 09/27/2009 8:10:42 PM PDT by pissant

There is an inherent feeling among many in this country that an African-American should not be president."

That comment comes from former President Jimmy Carter, which is fascinating considering Carter once ran for governor of Georgia proclaiming himself to be a "Lester Maddox Democrat." (Maddox, a former Georgia governor, was an avowed segregationist who opposed integration under the Civil Rights Act.)

In fairness to President Carter, I do believe in redemption, and that people can change. But more and more people are inclined to say anyone who disagrees with Barack Obama must be racist.

It hurts me when the left and the right use race for political gain, and it depresses me further that it's so awkward for us to talk about honestly and objectively about race. However, the implication that disagreeing with the president is racist also saddens and perplexes me.

Donna Brazile, campaign manager for Al Gore in 2000 and now a CNN analyst, nailed it when she said, "No one wins in touching race in such a shallow way. It raises defenses and creates backlash."

The race issue blew up two weeks ago when Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., called Obama a liar on the floor of the House during the president's address to a joint session of Congress. Although Democrats booed President Bush in that same chamber during a State of the Union a few years ago, it was still wrong for Wilson to do this.

He called the president's chief of staff and apologized. I would have preferred he do it on the floor of the House, which is where the incident occurred.

I can name at least 4 black Americans (that's ALL black, and actually AMERICAN) who I would be thrilled to vote for as president above nearly every white male contender on the radar. And it has nothing to do with race.

I think this absolves me, and probably 99.9% of Freepers, of any racism.

Let them play it! It’s losing its magic anyway. You can only call someone a racist so many times before they become numb to it.

{Damn near the entire libtard establishment and the State Run Media are calling us racists.}

Then Obama can step forward and say the attacks on him are not all racially motivated. Thus enabling him to be above the fray. Obama and the media are playing a shell game with the race card.

When your opponents do or say something out of character, and which shows respect for truth and principle, they deserve to be commended.

I think this absolves me, and probably 99.9% of Freepers, of any racism.

That's depends on how you define "racism." If you define it as "judging people based on their race," then you'd be correct. Unfortunately, that's no longer the way the left prefers to define it. The definition they now prefer is "being opposed to social justice, socialism and collectivist policies."

Excellent point. The left despises intelligent minorities in elected or appointed high positions of power when their politics don't fall in line with their Marxist principles. To them, they are just "Uncle Toms," the ultimate racist screed.

Dear Liberals,

Please be advised that your Race Card account has been closed. This decision was based on your account history of excessive over-limit spending. Please destroy your card immediately as it will no longer be honored.

Sincerely, The American People

I'm sad to acknowledge that Obama has served to reveal the most incredible display of racism in recent memory. Impossible as it's seems, a staggering percentage of hard working red blooded American's reacted to the Election based solely on the color of Mr.Obama's skin. Of course, I'm taking about him receiving 96% of the black communities vote.

Wouldn't it be marvelous if no discernible differential existed between voters of different races. What would that tell us?

Nah. All it shows is that their PR strategy backfired big time and that they need to co-opt truth for a moment to just stay in the game. Donna Brazile, Axelrod, Winner, Carville, or any of the democrat propagandists in the media cannot be taken at face value. They'll say anything. I'm weary of people's surprise when they eventually do the opposite.

The author is "hurt, depressed, saddened, and perplexed". Sounds like he's got issues and needs chores to do.

JC dissed the 4th district during the campaign last fall when he talked about race and basically called us racist because we were not supporting Obama and then changed his tune before the election as the thought he might run for Governor. It is the same district that give him large numbers of votes when we are about 85 - 90% white.

Lost a lot of respect for him last year. This article didn’t help when he said Joe Wilson should have apologized on the floor of the house instead of calling ZERO’s Chief of Staff.

He held a picnic and passed out Obama shirts but never officially endorsed him and then at the last minute endorsed McCain when he thought he might run for OK Governor but then changed his mind.

He also did a robocall for a Dem against a Republican here in OK in 2006.
