GREENVILLE S.C. -- A candidate for South Carolinas Adjutant General found a high-powered way to appeal to supporters over the weekend.
Dean Allen held a drawing for an AK-47 at a fundraiser in Greenville on Saturday.
The event, called a Machine Gun Social, was held at Allen Arms Indoor Range on Poinsett Highway. For $25, donors were given a barbeque lunch and twenty shots with a machine gun. A free drawing determined the winner of the semi-automatic AK-47, valued at $700.

I guess anything with a trigger is considered a "machine gun" by the media.
Yeah, I’m confused. Is it a machine gun or a semi-auto and who considers an AK-47 a “high-powered” gun as the first sentence suggests?
$700 for an AK?
You’ll get a lot further with a kind word and a gun than with just a kind word.
It sounds like the candidate himself called it that when he named it a “Machine Gun Social”.
I read it that the 20 shots was with a fully automatic weapon, while the prize AK-47 was semi-automatic. The article does mention, twice I think, that the AK-47 is semi-automatic. And the line is that the 20 shots is with “a” machine gun, not “the” machine gun. Parsing maybe, but thats how I took it.
The "high-powered" fundraiser featured a Class III weapon at the range, which you could fire 20 rounds through (hopefully in 3 shot bursts . . . )
Sort of like the Gatling Gun setup at the Cowboy Action "End of Trail" event . . . you pay $20 for so many shots (and to get your picture taken in the catbird seat).

The article plainly identifies the AK as a "semi automatic". Somebody schooled the reporter a little, and some of it stuck.
I wouldn't have one if you gave it to me, but that's another story . ...
For a moment, I imagined that he was actually “using” it to “raise cash”, perhaps at a convenience store or bank.
I don’t think that’s an AK, I believe it is a dragonov.
$25!! That’s a pretty good deal.
That is not an AK. Classic Arms sells a ROMAK-3 that looks almost identical for $719. They shoot 7.62x54 not 7.62x39 like an AK.
I was hoping Republican politicians might do something like this, but I’m not so sure it can pass muster with the campaign finance laws in many States.
That is a Russian VEPR chambered for 308 winchester.
It was made at the Molot factory in Polyany.
The stock set is from a Romanian PSL and has been restained in rusky red.
This is a very fine rifle
I have both the VEPR and the Romak 3
Love the VEPR
Good job! It is a beautiful rifle.
$719 is a righteous price for the PSL with scope.
Buy it! you wont be disappointed and ammo is cheap.
I am thinking of getting another.
The Romanian PSL is one of the few firearms that isnt over priced nowadays.
Its pretty accurate at 400 yds
And of course you are technically correct... it is an AK style rifle just as much as the 7.62x39 semi-auto AKs are AK style rifles. I love them all.
Thats not mine. Mine has walnut furniture, but I do like what this fellow did with the Romanian stock set.
An exceptional rifle
Molot made really nice rifles and they just shut down production there last week. Get one if you can find one now.
Save them pennies and get one. They are a hoot
I really enjoy eastern block firearms. They are cheap, functional and with a tiny bit of effort are more accurate than they are given credit for.
Yeah. I collect them too. 5 years ago this stuff was dirt cheap. Mint $150 makarovs $80 CZ 52s.
I am kicking myself in the arse for not getting a yugo M76
Some of the Century builds are still turning up here and there, although I have never been a big fan of their work.
I was gonna build my own. $500 dollar kit and $500 dollar Ohio Rapid fire receiver..
But I blew it off cuz 1k is a lot if money, then you have to build it?
Well after 6 mos you couldnt even get the kits *face slap*
There just are none available now.
Century runs hot and cold. I got a nice FAL from them for $450
I have a Century WASR10. It came with the a canted sight, gas block and other misalignment problems. Once I pulled it apart and put things back together it became one of my favorite guns. I think the parts Century uses are generally fine, but it would be fair to say that the quality control in their assembly process is sometimes lacking. Fortunately, this can usually be corrected with a little effort.
Great links on the Yugo.
I have the WASR 1, 2, and 3.
OK I had to fix the magwell on the 2 and the Mag release on the 3, but they work fine and were only $350
Yeah, century has a bad rap for quality, but there is a lot of bang for the buck.
Got some Cetmes for 350 and they rock. Took a feeler gauge to the store and checked them out before I bought.
That FAL is a clean build
Sounds like my kind of candidate, though. We should have more that are willing to be linked with those evil, racist “gun people” .
