ZURICH – Director Roman Polanski was arrested by Swiss police as he flew in for the Zurich Film Festival and faces possible extradition to the United States for having sex in 1977 with a 13-year-old girl, authorities said Sunday.
Polanski was scheduled to receive an honorary award at the festival when he was apprehended Saturday at the airport, the Swiss Justice Ministry said in a statement. It said U.S. authorities have sought the arrest of the 76-year-old director around the world since 2005.

In Paris, Culture Minister Frederic Mitterrand said he was "dumbfounded" by Polanski's arrest, adding that he "strongly regrets that a new ordeal is being inflicted on someone who has already experienced so many of them."

I don’t trust the Swiss. Something tells me they are working with Polanski in his continual maneuvers to get the US case of his drugging and raping a 13 year old in 1978 dismissed.
And for the Swiss to get involved, you would have to believe they agree that sex with a 13 year old drugged girl is wrong and I rather doubt many Swiss think that way.

I’m reading “The English Assassin”, by Daniel Silva, and it sure doesn’t paint the Swiss in a positive light.
So true...he should have been in jail years ago along with the mother of the young girl. She sent her underage daughter to a party to get a movie role. She and Polanski should both be behind bars.

You're confusing the Swiss with the Swedes. The Swiss are among the stodgiest conservatives in all of Europe, and I doubt very much that the average Swiss burgher would object to the extradition and harsh punishment of a man who committed anal rape on a 13-year-old girl after giving her booze and Quaaludes.
This is just salacious. I realize she is now a middle-aged woman, but I still don't think her photograph belongs here.
The photograph shows how young she was. It makes it very clear that he raped a child.
I posted the photo to show that this was a little girl that Polanski raped, a girl too young to consent under any circumstances to sex with a then 43 year old man.
I thought this incident also involved some tacit permission by the child’s mom, who was also a Polanski lover.
of course — it was a really long time ago, the victim is now an adult, and no one cares — it will be turned over and he will be welcomed like a hero.

Charlie Chaplin used todo the same thing all the time — his first two wives were underage girls —
Jerry Lee Lewis married a 13 year old too. But I don’t recall any allegations that Chaplin or Lewis got underage girls drunk and stoned then had sex with them without their consent.
No means no particularly when it is a 13 year old saying it, even if you are a rich and famous Hollywood director and have gone to the trouble of getting her drunk and stoned first.
Chaplin bought the girls from their mothers. He started having sex with Lita Grey when she was 9 years old. He married her after she became pregnant and her mother, with the ey on the bigger payout, refused to take money to take her Mexico for an abortion.
According to published reports, Chaplin impregnated and then married Lita Grey when she was 16. I have not seen any reports that he started having sex with her when she was 9.
Regardless, Hollywood has decreed that both Chaplin and Polanski (and Bill Clinton too) were merely the victims of prurient Americans who are overly concerned with their private sex lives.
The fact that their private sex lives involved criminal assaults upon young girls is no more relevant than the fact that ACORN advises pimps and hookers how to smuggle young sex slaves into the country.
You must be thinking of Muhammad. It's a natural mistake. ;) However, Chaplin's 2nd wife, Lita, met him when she was 12. He didn't marry his first wife until 1918, when Lita would have been 10 years old. You can probably look it up somewhere on the internet.
Gis first wife was named Mildred, and he married her when she was 16. Which means he knew her before that. I read Lita’s autobiography.
You’re mixing up first and second wives here. Also, Lita’s first autobiography, as she later admitted, was largely fictional. I trust we will not mix up first and second autobiographies...?
Point is, you are mistaken about Chaplin having had relations with Lita when she was only nine years old.
No I haven’t mixed up the wives — you have. Mildred was his first wife, who he married when she was 16. She had been acting since childhood, and it’s entirely palusible that her relationship with him began years earlier.
Lita gave a very detailed account of knowing Chaplin from age 9 — she started working in his movies at age 12 — got the job because her mother had alreaady pimped her to Chaplin much earlier.
It seems obvious that her second biography was written because she needed money — to sell it she would have to repudiate the first one, which is a much more convincing account of her life with Chaplin.
I'm going to settle for the silver, in the 200-word Chaplin crotch-sniffing event this year; likewise the Lita mind-reading hurdle; and let you have all the glory. :)
