For weeks now, I've been pointing out with some regularity that while Sarah Palin is surging toward 1,000,000 fans on FaceBook--the second highest total for any American political figure behind only Obama--Mitt Romney has been stuck at about 70,000 for months.
Depending on the news cycle and what she's up to, Palin gains between 1,000 and 10,000 fans per day and hasn't spent a dime to do it.
Well, I guess this disparity has finally gotten under old Mitt Romney's skin because he's decided to do something about it. What something, you ask? The same thing he always does to try to win popularity--purchase it with greenbacks.
Yes, it's true. I saw my very first "Join Team Romney" ad on Facebook tonight. And even though I'll never sign on to help this phony push the GOP even further left, I clicked on the ad anyway out of sheer curiosity. (Every time you do, it costs them, btw. Not that I would encourage that sort of behavior.) Of course, his facebook page is loaded with nonsubstantive Romney propaganda--articles saying how wonderful RomneyCare is, touting how "conservative" Mitt really is, etc.
I just wanted my FRiends to know about this as it's clearly a sign that Romney is gearing up to try to buy the nomination again. And based on the rumblings I'm hearing from certain hosts on talk radio, particularly the Salem Radio hosts (do I even have to mention the worst offender?), the so-called conservative media is getting ready to become full-fledged Romney shills for the next election cycle.
We can not let this happen. If Obama is weak enough to defeat in 2012, we must make absolutely certain that we replace him with a solid, unapologetic, articulate conservative.
Mitt Romney is not a conservative. He needs to be confronted with his atrocious record at every turn. He can not be allowed to buy the GOP nomination in 2012.
LOL that’s awesome Palin is beating Romney more than 12 to 1.
I’m with you. Romney will never get my vote.
Oh noes!! Facebook wars! *rolls eyes*
As if someone could buy the nomination if they wanted it. Or as if that’s even a bad thing. Seeing as how Obama destroyed McCain in advertising expenditures and budgetary issues.
ping
While Romney is an ass sucking shill.
Ping to you, too.
I don’t get these so-called conservative media people. What makes them think the base will buy their stuff if they try to pull that off? They must really look down on us from their “high” perch in DC.
Romney is not only for Soviet medicine, he helped pass it in Massachusetts.
Advice for him and anyone else who wants to be our “leader”.
Lead. Get in the fight. Go after O and his agenda forthrightly, boldly, fearlessly, and call O and his band of weasels out every time they make a move. You’ll make yourself a target for some of the worst invective you’ve ever heard, and you’ll be the target of a hundred private inestigators on the DNC’s payroll digging through your trash and your past and digging up every embarrassing thing you ever did or thought about doing.
But thats the price. Get in the fight.
If your idea of getting in the fight is to launch attacks on your fellow Repubs from the shadows, then you are not worthy of serving in public office, and you aren’t worthy to represent me.
I voted for Romney in the CA primary last year. The only other choice was McCain. I admit I don’t really know as much about Romney as I should. I recall Ann Coulter endorsing him fairly enthusiastically, however. Either he fooled her, or she was just going with the best available alternative at the time.
My party may be for rent by the highest bidder, but my vote is not going to go for the next Romney or McCain. I’ll put it to a third party first. Sure, it’s a wasted vote, but I don’t want my own party to come back and go, ‘gosh, look how close it was, if we had run just a little more left, we would have won.’
I’m done voting for liberals, with or without the R after their name.
He not only has to catch her on facebook, but she’s smoking him on twitter, and myspace and what about Team Sarah? Is there even a Team Mittens???
Ditto ! Well said.
If Romney thinks that his call to arms to up his Facebook is going to put him in the White House, I have a Moose to sell him.
All Sarah had to do was register and wait a few minutes. Romney’s stagnant.
He’d do better getting a new “do” so that when he turns his head his hair follows than thinking he can conquer Facebook. Outta touch.
I’ve been wondering what happend to all the Romney fans that were here during the primary season. There were lots of them....and they’ve gone awfully silent.
Hank
Why the exercise about Mitt.
Conservative Republican Sarah Palin has him beat period.
Mitt won’t last through the primaries.
Using him for a straw man to push a 3rd Party who only receive 2% of the vote if lucky is why the Left Wing wins.
Then vote for the Conservative Republican, Sarah Palin

Rush Limbaugh defended Palin and heralded her as the most prominent and articulate voice for conservatism.

Never forget.
They were laid off the payroll.
The RINOs, like Romney, can’t fight Obama, because they themselves have pushed policies similar to Obama’s in the past. How in the world can Romney “get in the fight” against government-controlled health care? How can McCain criticize Obama on illegal alien amnesty?
RINOs are worse than liberals. RINOs join with Democrats to thwart conservatives. They are not our friends.
Romney ran an add in 2008 trying to take credit for hte border fence built by Duncan Hunter.
We don’t need more RINO’s.
He even bragged about it in the 2008 campaign
Uh,George Soros bought himself one back in november of 08 did he not?Put nothing past mittens.
You got that right.I dont listen to hannity either since his shilling for roooooty.
I wish that someone here on FR had a list of those that would bomb FR with all the pro mittens stuff back last year and we could do a “Where are they now” deal.
Can’t stand this guy and am sick and tired of his minions trying to spin the ‘mitt is da’bomb’ meme.
GO AWAY, MITT! Don’t care if you offer money to friend you on FB, folks aren’t buying.
McCain couldn’t outspend Obama because voters tend to donate a lot more to a candidate who upholds the principles they care about. If a conservative is nominated, I doubt they will have any problems filling a war chest.
same here. hannity showed just who he really is when he blew rooty toot every time he opened his northeastern elitist yap. the ditto cam in the morning and Beck in the afternoon is about it for me these days.
Ex-aides to Romney pop up in races across the country [Romneybots working to take over the GOP]
Romney makes nice with rivals [by praising Giuliani, chillin' with McCain] [epic barf alert]
Ping!
I bet none of their friends and family has friended Myth on facebook.
Not only is Palin beating Romney hollow on Facebook, Team Sarah just went over 74,000. There are about 50 websites devoted exclusively to Palin, and a few hundred more that regularly run pro-Palin stories. Palin has far more people on her defunct twitter page (which is still gettng people signing up) than Romney has on his active twitter. In April Romney teamed up with McCain, Jeb Bush and Cantor, they had to give away free pizza to attract 100 people. In May Romney campaigned for Christie in NJ and drew a “crowd” of 50, when he campaigned for McDonnell in VA recently he drew a crowd of “dozens.” Romney did two rallies for Chambliss last Dec, drawing a total of 300 people. Palin did 4 rallies, drawing a total of about 15,000. Romney has a book coming out either late this year or sometime next year, my bet is that Palin’s book will sell 100 times as many. In April Palin drew 3,000+ to the Right to Life banquet(about twice the normal crowd.) Palin drew 20,000+ in Auburn NY in June, the next day was given an enthusiastic reception to 12,000 at the Autism Walk.
The hottest selling items at Tea Parties are Palin 2012 buttons, bumperstickers, t-shirts and signs.
I don’t discount Romney completely, because anyone with a lot of money can put up a fight, but I’m confident that if Palin runs for the nomination, she’ll win it. She’ll get the lions share of the pro-life vote (who better, certainly not Romney) the NRA vote (I eat therefore I hunt), and the Evangelical vote.
I just know that Romney has a shadow campaign committee that has weekly, if not daily, strategy meetings to review progress and come up with strategies for trying to get Romney's name out into the grassroots and favorable headlines in the Conservative "blogosphere," including Free Republic.
And I'm sure that after Sarah bombed Obama with her "Death Panels" statement from her Facebook page, along with the MSM's obvious fascination of her Facebook postings, Romney's shadow team said to themselves, "Oh crap! We're behind the curve and need to catch up!"
That's what I think we're seeing here---Romney using his money and network to engage in his own brand of astro-turfing.
Just type in Romney in the search. It shouldn’t be difficult to compile a list.
They do, but Lord willing not for long. Rise up patriots we have a war to win!
As if Romney weren’t already a world-class hypocrite trying to go after Obama on healthcare!
No, Sarah Palin is HOT! ;^)
The Mythers are over at the New Republican site and will be back adter they get retrained by Team Myth.
Ann claimed she was for him because he was pro-life (never mind he was a re-born Pro-lifer), but she always said if Rudy had declared himself pro-life she would have endorsed him because he was the most fiscally conservative in the tip tier running.
Ann Coulter wrote a very positive column about Romney. It was enough to convince me to vote for him in the CA primary. As I said, however, I don’t claim to be an expert on Romney, and I don’t necessarily believe everything Ann writes.
Maybe Mitt can start paying people to be his (Facebook) friend. Hey Mitt, send me fifty bucks and I’ll sign up!
