President Obama eyes laws to aid news business
The Boston Herald ^ | September 22, 2009 | Jay Fitzgerald

Self-described “newspaper junkie” President Obama says he is “happy to look at” bills before Congress that might help the struggling newspaper industry.

The White House later cautioned that the president’s remarks, made to media outlets over the weekend, shouldn’t be taken as support for a bailout for yet another industry.

Obama was specifically addressing the issue of whether the government could make it easier for newspapers to restructure as nonprofits.

One bill now before Congress would make it easier to convert newspapers into nonprofits.

They are actually considering a government bailout of major newspapers. What is happening to us?

This is scarey, but it figures. They are trying to elevate the liberal media to level of Church, or charity services.

You know what will happen then?

The newspapers will print nothing but positive stuff about Obama.

Oh, wait a minute...

In the liberal mind, the liberal media is at the level of the Church.

Seriously, these airheaded newscasters and TV personalities honestly think they are the moral authorities for the US, and most average liberals accept them as such. Of course, they are being used by the smarter, more ideological people, but they’re too dumb to know it and their followers are too star-struck to care.

How can a for profit business all of a sudden become a non-profit business? Imagine the tax receipts that would dry up from these business if that were to happen.

Hmmm, Rush Limbaugh becoming a nonprofit entity? What would he do with all the time from those ‘obscene profit timeouts’?

Obama moves to protect his supporters by throwing borrowed money after bad...by propping up not only drowning businesses, but a failing business model...what imbecilic waste of the Peoples tax money.

But if he just feels such a strong need to show everyone how stupid he is...this is going to be a very public way to do it. Sometimes businesses are meant to die. If there is a need, nature will fill the vacuum with newer better models.

This makes perfect sense for a communist to do.

I actually thought 0bama was going to help NEW businesses. What could be wrong with that? Turns out I misread and he wants to help old dying businesses.

What alarms me much more is that the government will be running the news business officially.

"The president, who described himself as a “big newspaper junkie,” said he’s concerned that one day only opinionated blogs will cover the news."

How would we know the difference?

These idiot politicians think everything needs a law.

They just need to follow the Constitution and stop writing laws and repeal all the small business laws/taxes they have passed.

It isn't called a “Free Market” for nothing.

What is happening to us is that we are being enslaved by an illegitimate liberal fascist oligarchy. The government will now officially own the propaganda machine, whereas previously it was informal ownership.

A non-profit Union organized business. The graft, corruption, racketeering would reach levels not seen since, hmm, the 1930s :-)

Don’t think of it as a government bailout,
think of it as a government takeover.

Hey, I've got an idea! Why not put the "newspaper industry" under a News Czar!?!! He could control the entire industry from the White House!!!!!

These idiot politicians think everything needs a law.

These idiot politicians think everyone else needs a law.

If they make enough laws, everyone becomes a potential
criminal.

First they make the press non-profit, then when socialist
papers and organizations become non-profits the next
thing will be laws “equalizing” the media, then laws
sqeezing out the independents and finally laws
that rule out opposing views.
And it will all be “legal”.
