WASHINGTON – The embattled community activist group ACORN appears to be collecting charitable contributions through affiliate organizations that it then uses for impermissible lobbying and political activity, says the Republican staff of the Senate Finance Committee.
The assessment, in a memo to Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, further fuels the controversy surrounding ACORN, formally known as the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.
The GOP staff memo says ACORN-affiliated charities are being used to raise money which is then funneled to other charities or other organizations for purposes other than what a donor may have intended.
In response, ACORN chief executive Bertha Lewis called the allegations "politically motivated, false and part of a long-standing campaign against this grass-roots organization carried out by partisan right-wing conservatives."

Given. ACORN is a corrupt criminal organization. I’d wager an truly in-depth investigation of ACORN would provide names of a number of affiliated and connected Congressman, politicians, and individuals in the the current White House.
Corrupt or not, ACORN is a political advocacy org and should never have recieved public money to begin with.

Too late now. They got Obama elected, and that is all that counts. That has been the problem all along -— there are is no real punishment for the politician who cheats the system. He/she gets elected and pays a little fine that comes out of contributions. Hillary Clinton should have been prosecuted and incarcerated for the events surrounding the Peter Paul donation to her campaign. Nothing happened to her.

She at least has the presence of mind to call her enemies what they are as opposed to the country club imbeciles running the GOP who would rather die than calll ACORN and Comrade Lewis a bunch of "red communist radicals and criminals".

As far as ACORN is concerned they are not misusing funds. They are simply doing what they have aways done with the money.
Ummmm, Babs says it is “politically motivated”. Is she claiming she is part of a political party and getting funds? Aren’t they a non-profit group. They are not supposed to be partisan (I know, I know). Am I missing something here?
