Channel 11 News reporter Vince Sims said cars were at a standstill as the group converged at 37th Street and Liberty Avenue. "Our city, our streets, our park" were among chants that also included, "This is what democracy looks like." By the time the protesters hit 34th street, police in riot gear blocked the group. There is no word yet on whether they were allowed to continue. Sims spoke to the first protesters to arrive to Pittsburgh for the march. They are protesters in town from Denver and they thanked Sims for covering the story and giving the cause a voice in the media. Other protesters, dressed entirely in black shouted "dissent against the establishment." The protesters in black hid their faces because they said police want to learn their identities. The mass march began at 40th Street and Penn Avenue in Lawrenceville near Arsenal Park. Protesters will then continue toward the global summit to, according to a G-20 Resistance Project publication, take to the streets with all of your love and your anger, your determination and your defiance, your rejection and your vision. Business owners in the Strip District spent the better part of Wednesday preparing for the march which is expected to continue through Penn Avenue toward the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. The march is not a state sanctioned protest, but one protester said "Democracy flourishes when our freedoms are exercised, and democracy doesn't need a permit."
WEll it sure was a set up.
Watch out for the unwashed masses....
Obama just landed here...
“mass march”? Riiiigggghhtt.
And what’s with the masks?
Also if they're from Denver what's this my "city, my street" crap?

The own the world, don’t you know. Even when I was a liberal, I hated anarchists. They just cause trouble for everyone. No good thugs they are.
Man, you can say that again! :)
LOL
The Obamas just entered their limo, waiting to depart for downtown. I imagine security will be even tighter (if possible) for next few minutes.
they should pass an ordinance that says you may not have your face covered. NYC did it for the republican convention years ago.
You know, I have always thought that as well. I would also include police and swat teams.

Did they land at the old Allegheny airport or the new one?
so, you don’t want police officer identities protected?
Looks like 30 protesters and 300 cameramen.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Unpermitted march at G-20 in Pittsburgh turns chaotic with police firing gas on protesters.
WTH!!
Seen this a breaking news @
for later
Nope. If they are doing something that they don’t want to be identified or associated with then they shouldn’t be doing it. If they work undercover then they shouldn’t be used on raids.
I’m not sure where they landed. It was extreme close-up, and I didnt here- sorry.
LOL. There are only 3 streets through 'The Strip' that lead into town. They aren't going to make it.
Here’s another one.http://mfile.akamai.com/12919/live/reflector:22380.asx

I’m about 4 miles from Old Allegheny Airport, in Brentwood. I had heard some choppers earlier while working here at home. I thought it was the sounds of Obama’s guardian angels.
There’s no way that airport could handle Air Force One though.
Pittsburgh ping.
I am also watching DOT cam here ( 579 outbound over Liberty Ave ) http://www.dot.state.pa.us/Penndot/Districts/district11.nsf/District11TrafficCams
If you mean the old Allegheny County Airport in West Mifflin, the answer is no. That is more of a corporate and general aviation airport. The runways there are not long enough for a 747 or other wide bodies.
The POTUS always flies in and out of Greater Pitt Intl. in Moon Township about 15 miles West of downtown. It's not really a 'new' airport, just new passenger terminals. They still use the same runways as the old airport.
THEY’RE ANARCHISTS.

Yeah ... I had a complete brain fart and forgot that 747s weren’t in mind when that airport was built and could never land there :-). I’ve just been hearing a lot of activity in and out of West Mifflin today :-)! I am not used to that :-). It’s normally quiet with your occasional private jet taking off from there :-)!
Those wild and crazy leftists...
I'd guess the majority are trust fund kids who don't need a job.
They tried and some of the jackass members of the city council stopped it. If this thing turns ugly it's those politicians bowing and scraping to these punks that should be blamed.
Streaming pxi; tear gas canisters (per nbcnews) fired.
The protesters will never make it to the DLLawrence....but it makes me sick that they are dispersing into residential areas. Those Lawrenceville homeowners prob don’t have the insurance to cover these idiots damage.
Peggy did laugh and comment, it looked like more media than protesters. Keeping fingers crossed that it stays that way.
The President has safely landed and is in town.
The live shots of the Strip are surreal.
Peggy...Pgh Public Schools were closed today and tomorrow...yikes.
I don’t have a feel for where there is any ‘hillside’ on that portion of Penn (no one call it a grassy knoll...not a hill...how about enbankment).
Pushing thr protesters back towards Lawrenceville (moving them away from the DLLawrence).
Cops doing a really good, patient job.
